to upgrade an existing machine for 49.99 isn't that bad and you get windows 8 pro
Soldierone  +   312d ago
Its not exactly saving money.....if you think about it, your spending an EXTRA 15 dollars....

If you plan on upgrading to 8, then just wait till 8 comes out. The only way this benefits you is if you wanted to buy a new computer, but didn't want to get stuck with 7. In that case its a good deal since you dont have to wait.

I should buy my new computer soon since I don't really want 8 pre-installed on it.

well it's a good start to make everyone acquire a original copy at a reasonable price.

I hate the metro look ill stick with win7 for a while
Shinuz  +   312d ago
yeah I installed windows 8 about a week ago and only booted on it like 2 times, i really do not like what they did with windows this time around, the metro ui and the lack of the start button really puts me off.

the low price for the upgrade was tempting but seriously I think its a waste of money since 7 runs so great.

That's okay I'll stick with XP. You know the one without all the government and RIAA back doors. Besides I don't want to run my computer like a phone.

Sony should try to make a OS and destroy Windows.

Not that I like Windows, but you must be asleep. Sony isn't any good in making a OS. Just look at PS3 OS. Yes it works quite well for a game console but it has tons of design and copy protection securities problems that if Sony puts the OS on a PC, you will hate it more than Windows.

Second which is more critical than anything is having tons of software made for your OS. Good luck with that if Sony even tries. The closest to come close is Mac. Remember, when you make software for your OS, the software must just "work" by casual users. If you require your users to have knowledge of Unix, good luck because you will not be able sell it to any home or regular business users. Requiring hardcore/guru users just ensuring your OS will fail in the market.

Why do we all get so excited that Windows 8 is a new full upgrade OS? Common sense tells you it's just Windows 7.1 with new GUI. Sure there are a few changes or enhancements but any Service Pack can do it.

I guess most of us are sold by Microsoft to think Windows 8 is a major upgrade.

I'm not. Yet there are "Windows reps" running around telling everyone otherwise and if you say something "negative" they get all mad and try to prove you wrong.

I don't like the design. "But you can just push classic view" then why not just stick with 7 and let them update it?

Well they're working on ways to make Windows cheaper in upgrade terms, but they still have some to beat some of the upgrade deals Apple have ran in the past.

Here's the info for anyone interested. I just bought a new laptop and wasn't even told about the offer by the sales guy. Luckily i can still take advantage if i so choose.

Buy a Windows 7 PC, get Windows 8 Pro for $14.99

Offer valid between June 2 2012 and January 31 2013. For details, ask sales associate or visit www.windowsupgradeoffer.com

I live in Canada but I think the offer is the same in the U.S.

An annoying title, but still pretty good. Shame I got my copy a long time ago. Release preview does the job for me however.
