Nvidia Tegra 3 brings quad-core power to mobile devices

Pocket-Lint: The Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset has finally arrived, bringing with it the beginning of true quad-core, or in Tegra's case five-core, mobile processing power. The quad-core chip project previously went under the name of Kal-El.

The new Nvidia mobile processor features the first quad-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU designed to bring the maximum level of power and performance to a mobile device, with a fifth companion core for things like video and low power applications.

Maximum PC: "Having its Tegra 3 SoC chosen for two platform-defining tablets, the Google Nexus 7 and the Microsoft Surface RT, has got to be one of the highlights of NVIDIA's year. Is the new iPad really four times quicker than Tegra 3?

Pocket-Lint: When Apple announced the new iPad, CEO Tim Cook was quoted as saying the iPad’s GPU was four times faster than Nvidia’s Tegra 3. This is Apple taking on the competition head on. Nvidia has a serious graphics heritage and its Tegra 3 SoC is hugely powerful.

While the iPad’s 5X chip has only a dual-core processor to the Tegra 3’s quad, the 5X has a quad-core GPU. Nvidia’s offering uses a GeForce GPU. In theory, Apple’s multi-core graphics processor should work wonders - but just how wonderful can these wonders be? Three times more wonderful than Tegra 3? This is an important question, as both represent the flagship powerhouses' of currently available tablets.

the vita has the same GPU except the fact it is customised fot the Vita. And it has a quad cord CPU.

Sony Tablet V150: Tegra 3 & Android 4.0?

Netbook News - Sony was late to the tablet game releasing the two Nvidia Tegra 2 devices, the Sony Tablet S and dual screen Tablet P a few months ago. With the release of Tegra 3 the two tablets are already out of date and it’s not surprising that Sony would be working on their next generation tablet.
