Japan To Air Broadcasts In 8k by 2018

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Japan have announced that their plans to move to 4k broadcasting is two years ahead and are now moving their focus towards 8k broadcasting. They expect 8k broadcasting to begin by 2018 with test run programs at 8K beginning in 2016. 4k streaming is set to start on CS(Communication Satellites) in March 2015. BS(Broadcasting Satellites) streaming will begin in 2016 with one new channel at 8k.

So with the advancements of 4k and now 8k, do Sony and Microsoft really think the current gen consoles can last up to 10 years before they are completely outdated?

I want the next consoles to be fully lightfield 3D capable. Fuck boring 2D displays, so done with that shit. holographic displays will dominate entertainment by the mid 2020s

Broadcasting in 8k is a waste of money.

Unless you're sitting closer than 10 feet, there is little discernible difference on a 50" TV between resolutions.
