The Verge: As promised, Finnish startup Jolla has given a first demo of its new MeeGo-based OS, Sailfish. The company, which was founded by a number of ex-Nokia employees, demoed the OS at a live show in Finland earlier today, but has uploaded a promotional video to YouTube. MTV 3 Finland has a live demo of the new OS running on what looks like an old Nokia N950 developer device that's worth checking out for a closer look at the OS.
Finnish mobile OS maker Jolla, whose Sailfish platform is one of the few remaining alternatives trying to fight the Android-iOS duopoly, has pulled out of its latest financing death valley by closing a delayed Series C financing round.

Sailfish OS,the first Linux based OS along with Jolla phones may very well into the Android and iOS market.
"They are planning to integrate Facebook to the basic level in a phone."
Please no.
What monopoly?
You have the option of a massive number of Android phones and OS versions, iPhone, W8 phone, prepaid phone with its own OS, Blackberry...
Mashable - If you talk to enough people at the Finnish mobile startup Jolla, at some point it occurs to you that the company it most resembles is Apple. Not the Apple of today, which is basically a half-trillion-dollar supply chain with a design appendage, but Apple back when it was Steve Jobs obsessing over the creation of the Macintosh, which was radical in its focus on the user. In demos, at least, Jolla’s decidedly different new mobile operating system (OS), called Sailfish, looks that good.
It sounds really interesting, well not interesting enough to dump my Android as soon as it comes out, but i'll be keeping an eye on Jolla Sailfish's progress.
That looks a lot like the old TouchWiz on the Omnia. For me the best Mobile OS out there for looks and usability is Windows Phone 8.
Be good if they can get this OS selling well as it would be good to have a lot of choice rather than just Android IOS and WP8 at the moment.
What people don't realize is that it takes more than a fancy UI. You need developer support for great apps and a ecosystem. Jolla has none of these and thus, it will fail.
lol this is no good and they just gave there ideas to apple and google and samsung to copy with this video
they have a super uphill battle, its kinda late for this now. but all it is is a backing from a major major manufacturing company and a phone company maybe it can get 3% of the market.
