Clostridium difficile colitis (also known as C. diff) is a severe diarrhea-causing spore-forming bacteria that usually plagues people that have finished a course of antibiotics for other unrelated illnesses.
The drugs kill the natural bacteria in the bowel, allowing this more dangerous microbe to line the intestines and cause excessive diarrhea. There are certain antibiotics that could be taken to kill it, but treated fecal matter can also be delivered directly to the stomach via a colonoscopy or nasogastric tubes. The natural microbes in the payload would restore order to the intestines, thus causing the diarrhea to stop.
