For those unaware, the USB Type-C is a USB specification for a small 24-pin fully reversible-plug connector for USB devices.
Now, in my own and very simple words USB Type-C is that standard of connector which can be reversed both sides and can be plugged into any device sporting a USB Type-C port. This piece of technology has seen a big impact in the year 2016 and has already been implemented in devices such as Smartphones, Laptops, etc.
The First Smartphone to feature the Type-C port was LeTV Le 1 Pro Superphone. Surprisingly LeTv as a brand wasn’t known much outside of China back then, when the phone was first launched.
Even the new Apple MacBook has a single USB Type-C port, but this time it is not an Apple only standard. This is a new USB standard, and given time it will spread to everything that currently uses an older, bigger USB connector.
USB Type-C is a new type of physical connector which can support USB standards like USB 3.1 & USB power delivery. That means faster transfer speeds and faster charging than previous USB Type-A, Type-B, Micro or Mini Versions.
USB Type-C has already started making waves in the tech industry and in the coming years USB Type-C will be new go-to standard for all manufacturers including Apple, replacing all types of connectors be it in a Smartphone, a Laptop or a Tablet.
Some of the manufacturers have even started using the Type-C Port on their Smartphones to phase out the traditional 3.5mm jack. But in my opinion, this is more of a drawback than an advantage for now.
Conclusion: USB Type-C is definitely making waves in the industry and rightly so with advantages such as being fully reversible, being fast, being small, being powerful. In my opinion, it is going to replace all type of ports powering our day to day gadgets currently. The fact that even a company like Apple is using a standard technology like USB Type-C is enough of a evidence to guess what will be the outcome of this piece of tech in the coming years.
