July Contest Details

Half of the year is done, but we've still got half again to go! We'll be mixing it up just a bit to make things a bit fairer for the rest.

// Quality Contribution contest (with minimum 7500 news score points)

With a huge disparity between power and regular users, we're trying to level the playing field a bit as a number of submissions coming out lately are not exactly under the definition of "breaking news and rumors".

I will choose the winners based on their overall submission quality. We're looking for breaking news, interesting articles and op-eds, and anything else that sparks discussion. I don't think anyone is really interested in a printer review :|

1) $80
2) $60

// Quality Comments contest (with minimum 300 comments score)

Given the onslaught of lower quality comments in June's contest, resulting in some members being DQed for blatant spam, we're once again going to vote for those who post better comments. It's not a race for the top but a race for the best.

1) $60
2) $50
3) $40

// Top Management Contest

Not much to be a said here. Come out on top and win some cash. Inconsistent reports or approvals can result in a DQ which will disqualify you from this month's contest.

1) $60

At the end of the day, we can't just give away the money without some work, right? :P

Rules changed yet again, they always do when I contribute. Lol:)

Still going for it.

Good luck everyone.

Speed-Racer2846d ago

You know you're too good when people PM me telling me they're gonna give up :P

-Mezzo-2846d ago

I know, it's not fair on people who are regulars and not like me who only comes to win.

Atleast this way the playing field is levelled, even if by a little. :)

There's nothing wrong with printers Speed Racer. NOTHING.

Some minor updates from my side as I've been using my powers of...whatever... to try and do some tidying up. Whilst we can't get rid of or merge tags at the moment (see: half a dozen tags for self driving cars) I've done some pruning and editing as and where I can. So here are some updates for you.

- I'm sure some of you are finding you can't add certain tags because they already exist but aren't showing up in searches. Frustrating, I know. If this has happened to you, go back into your post and make a note that you attempted to add the tag in Updates. It avoids you getting a report from another user.
- Some duff tags and ones scheduled to be deleted have had [DO NOT USE] added to them. People found using [DNU] tags in new submissions will get a straight up day ban on submissions for stupidity.
- Internet Privacy is now Privacy so it can cover any invasion of privacy, data loss, discussion over snoopers charters, companies wanting personal data, etc.

-Mezzo-2846d ago (Edited 2846d ago )

A day ban because something on the site itself doesn't work properly is, quiet frankly, stupid.

But since this is happening, bans should only be issued if a tag says 'DNU' for example ' Moto G4 DNU' are used, not if a used tag was Suppose to be tagged with DNU, it's not really the contributors fault.

Speed-Racer2846d ago

The banned tags will have DO NOT USE or DNU in the title, so you can't really miss them.

sonicwrecks2846d ago

For clarification they will always have DO NOT USE, DNU is just for short in discussions. So an example tag: http://techspy.com/channel/...

As you can see it has the label at the end. That should be as clear as day for anyone if it comes up in their search. If you then subsequently choose to add a tag marked DNU that is careless enough to warrant a ban because you've gone and manually selected something you are being specifically told not to use.
