"It was said already this fall that Asus was interested in making its own augmented reality headset, similar to Microsoft’s HoLoLens, but at the time the rumors surfaced the PC manufacturer did neither confirm or denied the rumor. Now, the Taiwanese company announced that the rumors were accurate and that they are working on an augmented reality headset that should be released sometime next year. "
The ASUS ProArt Display PA32KCX is on the way - a brand-new 8K monitor designed for professionals, including DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity.
The Apple AR/VR headset is being held back by software, claims new report
This one overclocks to a 160Hz refresh rate.
Omg like this is epic - finally more the better - we will have cool AR and VR techs at much lower prices if the competition is higher.
I don't know if asus can be a true contender but who knows, suprises can happen.
My main concern is going to be standardizing content for these headsets... Blu Ray vs. HD DVD was one thing. But now we've got:
Hololens, Oculus, Sony VR, Asus VR, Samsung VR... and I'm sure there will be more.
Even within this list of 5 there is a divide among full VR and AR. So, there is an inherent split in content providers right there. VR? or AR? Ok, great, now, what headset do we build it for?
The amount of people complaining now about limited 4k content will pale in comparison to the frustration of early headset adopters.
I hope I'm wrong! But, I feel like this is going to be a 1 year waiting period before a logical purchase decision can be made.
