Surface RT was confusing: Microsoft

ARN: Microsoft dropped the 'RT' branding from its second generation Surface tablet to avoid consumer confusion, the company has revealed. The move was made to combat consumer confusion between the scaled down, tablet-optimized operating system and its regular Windows 8.1 OS.

I wonder how Microsoft is going to combat this branding issue..

I haven nothing against MS but I think they should have taken a step back from the tablet market after their Surface failure. Releasing an updated version is not the answer. I know they can't, I know windows 8 and the next 10 years of their company are invested in a flexible platform for home and mobile devices but their mobile strategy is not up to par. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

While I think windows rt is garbage and am a huge advocate against it and think it was steve ballmers ploy to run microsoft into the ground...I think a windows tablet is still a good idea, do I think they should keep the gimped rt version? No, but the pro could be amazing tablet....full blown windows on a tablet win win to me...just need to get the price down to about 600-700 or else I might as well buy a nice laptop in the 1000+ area

@LordDhampire I have to disagree about Windows RT being Gimped. I have the Surface RT and it has its place in the tablet market. RT is the OS for Home users who don't need a I5 or more processor and just want to look at things like Facebook emails and edit office documents ect. RT is Microsoft's OS to go up against IOS and Android and for me it beast them both hands down. I can also be used as a work pc as it offers VPN, Mouse and Keyboard, Desktop IE ect.

It also has a plus side of being lighter than an Ipad, Android tablet and also having a long battery life.

I do think Windows RT needs to be market better though. Most people I know are not into technology but a lot of people have now wanted a tablet to replace there home laptop or desktop and a Android and IOS device an not do this as you lose things like being able to print, Full office Suite and more. The biggest issue with the Surface RT was the price. If Microsoft can make the RT for £200 to £250 with touch cover and show that it can be used as a full pc for none Gamers and tech users I think they could be in for a winner.

Out of all the people I know who have looked at getting a tablet and the 8 people that tried my Surface 8 of them got a surface after.

The Other area they could get a lot of the market with RT is students. My brother decided to get a surface RT for Uni as he was sick of lugging his laptop around and again he has yet to find an issue with Apps missing for what he needs and will carry out his day to day tasks.

People also need to remember the xbox one is built on RT and MS are looking to move over Windows Phone over to RT.

I have a Surface RT and I think its the best tablet on the market by far. Its a design icon and the only tablet that can essentially replace a pc. The ipad and anroid tablets are nothing but media consumption devices
