Surprise! Google+ Overtakes Twitter as Number 2 Social Network

Maximum PC: If you've been avoiding Google+ all this time because you heard it was a ghost town, perhaps it's time you give the social networking site a visit. Google+, while still not on the level of Facebook in terms of users and activity, has now surpassed Twitter in monthly active users, making it the planet's second busiest social networking site around, according to data collected by Global Web Index (GWI from here on out). (Facebook, Google Plus, Services, Twitter, Web)

Google calls you a user of Google+ if you have a gmail account, the service itself is pretty dead although I like the layout better than Facebook

The article clearly said "ACTIVE" users.
Cueil  +   884d ago
if you use Chrome you're an active uses... assuming you sign into you account also signing into GMail is the same or just signing in at the search site

yes, thats it. You make a Youtube or Gmail Account you are a Google+ User. according to that i have 4 google+ accounts.
So in Reality with active Users its probably behind newmyspace already.

Google plus is way better than either of the other 2 but it needs users :/ These figures need to be based on person who has been on it and set up profile so at least 50% of it's complete or something... not just GMAIL account holders etc.

Google plus has free facetime if you and your friend has a front facing camera. which is a big bonus imo. works extremely well.

It's not like you can't use both though:)

Yes except like most Google number, there is so much lie baked into them. Any Google service requires you to have a G+ account. Step outside of the tech world and ask a single person if they have a G+ account and they will just look at you with a dumb found look because they have no idea what it is.

I agree. I signed up for it when it first opened its doors and another person I know did the same but I have not used it for 12 months or so now and neither has he and I don't know anyone else with a G+ account.

Its only in number but if you see the usage, Twitter is still on number 2.

People signed up Google+ for gmail that they didn't have a choice.. signed up but never on it. they only use gmail but not the Google+.

I have a Google+ account with over six months and I never use it because I dont like its layout and I dont like the way strangers posts are shown on my main page too.
BLAKHOODe  +   885d ago
I wonder if this takes into account people just logging in to check their gmail accounts, which automatically connects them to their Google+ account. I never EVER check my Google+, but I check my gmail multiple times a day.
bebitech  +   885d ago
It absolutely does which makes Google's claims all that more absurd. They are desperate to say "hey! we're social'

Really? I mean..exactly how does google classify a user as active?
