Anonymous Plan To Take Down Facebook On 5 November?

NRM: "Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Given the hacker groups' affiliation to the Guy Fawkes mask, the decision by hacker collective Anonymous to take down Facebook on bonfire night seems far from coincidental. But posting a warning to Zuckerberg and co. and social gaming giant Zynga in a stern warning message earlier this week, that's exactly what it intends to achieve." (Anonymous, Culture, Facebook)

This should have been filed under Rumor, in which we could very well vote "FAKE". Its not the authors fault, its just that he probably red the news from last year. Because the article is not providing any source at all, not even the Anonymous main Twitter account.

Again, good article, bad rumor :)

The takedown discussions do exist, as he links to here http://anonnews.org/forum/p... but after reporting on the previous November 5th threat myself, I can't see it happening.

As far as I remember, last year's threat was a by small sect of anonymous who acted independently outside of the standard anonymous group to attack Facebook - the 'actual' anon group posted up a press release saying that they wouldn't attack one of their sources of communication with the rest of the world for no reason and that the anonymous name was a banner for all people to use, a symbol of power over oppression kind of thing. So the original threat wasn't really an actual anon. threat I guess. The same as I'm assuming this will be too.
