Agreed. MySpace has no real value to Facebook. They are going in two different directions. Music on Facebook never really caught on, and I would not use the music app even if one was offered officially. Plus MySpace is dead.

Yea that has been the concern for many people... hence the use of the Recommend button. The like feature though will become a tad bit less popular seeing how so many people are against it.

And yes, really not about the amount of total hits but how many it can handle "at the same time". The shared ones do pretty OK but I hate it when they temporarily suspend the account, which can drive users away. The last big hit I got with my VPS was about 400,000 in 5 hours and I didnt scale up in time and got error 500s for a couple seconds. :P
A single day... try a single hour. It also doesnt matter the totals but how fast the traffic comes in (i.e. how many simultaneous connections the server can handle without freezing up). But I wont go on since you did mention budgetary constraints.
Typepad is good, but you first have to pay for it and then you need to know how to customize it. Most blogging scripts are good but a lot of users don't have the skill in configuring it properly. Nonetheless Wordpress is very good.
Finally, just dont go getting your self Reddited or Dugg, because a shared host will shatter under the traffic...even with the best cache methods out there (e.g. W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache).
But I mean, if your Pop3 server is down, you cant retrieve them in the first place...right? The problem with local storage is that you need to take your device everywhere. I used to be an MS Outlook kinda person but now I just use google apps to manage the site's emails.

What if your POP3 server goes offline? Also this happened to Hotmail recently and the problem was fixed. Could just be a little bit of instability in the cloud. If they have good back ups as well, they should be fine. Cloud computing is the way cause it's so much cheaper and much more flexible than dedicated set ups. Why doesnt company A have the right to lend it out for millions? They pretty much did all the overheads, testing and what not... they deserve that kind of money.
