NO its time for not to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8.

fatstarr2153d ago

yes the time is 3 years from now.

long live windows 7

Speed-Racer2153d ago

the ONLY reason I'm considering getting Windows 8 is because of that $40 upgrade fee. Maybe I might just store it if I'm not forced to install it right away.

nukeitall2153d ago

If you upgrade it, you will find you like it! I love Windows 8 and don't listen to Gabe, the Windows 8 App store and XBL is a threat to his business so he is frustrated.

Aussiegamer2153d ago

Exactly, hence the reason he is getting so up in arms.

Speed-Racer2153d ago

Good points. I've never used the app store, so I dunno, but I hope that it's much better at acquiring games than GFWL.

nukeitall2152d ago

I have used the app-store and it's like any other app store. It won't replace Steam, it is merely a threat.

As far as I can tell it doesn't have any game chat features or anything like that to compete with Steam. However, $1-3 games can severely cripple Steam as the customer free time is shifted to doing that instead on multiple devices from desktop, tablet to smart phone.

I don't know exactly what will be in XBL for Windows as the app itself doesn't do much right now so we know little based on MS reveals.

dead_eye2152d ago

You say $1-3 dollar games. Now are they game games or phone games. Price isn't the issue content is?

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney2152d ago

Yes windows 8 is graet but they are also trying funnel everything back to windows store. MS wants to be apple. Gabe has some good points. Jumping back and forth to the desktop & metro screen is no good for desktop or tablets.

mcgrottys2152d ago

the games right now are phone quality and xbla quality. The also say that hydro thunder hurricane (great game btw) is also coming out soon. I'm sure there will be higher quality games when it comes out and I'd be surprised if anything big goes on the marketplace before then.

Folk seem to be brainwashed by Micro$oft. I'm with Gabe on this. W8 wants to bring GFWL back to PC gamers, shackle us to a worthless piece of crap software.

Microsoft will bring:

- Banning use of steam outright.
- Putting developers out of business (dayz, terraria, chime etc) out of business.
- They will do EA approach to discounts that $60 > $50
- Modifications like GMOD will be banned.
- Servers run by corporate companies.
- DRM Lock down on all software. (Need internet connection to play any games).
- No end user support.
- Months before anything new happens with games.
- No more tweaking and enhancing games.
- No more custom builds.
- Basically inject barbiturate into PC gaming.
- They will convert PC gamers into Console gamers.

Why even defend them, if you play on the PC these are our principles without them. I might as well sell my PC and fork out for a 360 because it will do as much as locked down system.

Even Apple are this strict with gamers and developers.

There is no ifs or no buts or any comebacks.

dead_eye2152d ago

Any game with GFWL is always a pain in the balls. Don't think steam has anything to worry about

mcgrottys2152d ago (Edited 2152d ago )

I'm sorry but that is the largest amount of nonsense I have heard in a while, sure you may have some points but let me break it down for you. Seeing as how you haven't tried the consumer preview yourself.

-Steam will not be banned, I already have it on my laptop running W8 and it runs fine heck I've seen a performance improvement in many of my games

-How are they putting those devs out of business? Heck the marketplace may even bing much more business to people like Re-logic and the sorts because their games are fun not hardware intensive and will be seen by many more consumers. And a large majority of successful devs these years have been on iOS android etc. (Ex. Rovio Half Brick and Imangi)

-Maybe but I doubt it seeing as how they will be competing against the cheaper games and also do to the larger consumer base it will be easier to sell enough copies of their games to turn a profit.

-Don't have anything for that

-If you can do ad-hoc p2p and host games on your device right now I'm sure that their will still be private servers, its just up to the dev.

-Ok this is just one statement that annoys me because if you just look at any ipod, ipad or anything of that sort you can play games offline.

-It's up to the devs

-it usually only takes a week or two to push an update through the marketplace but that is for quality control. Steam has that as well (One of the reasons mojang didn't bother with steam)

-Looking at the permissions devs have on the windows 8 sdk they can still make it so you can tweak the games. And if you were wondering about in game visual settings they still have that (armed has a few options but a dev can add more)

- I don't see where you got that from, I mean you can't make a custom ARM device but ARM is only for tablets and soon maybe netbooks, but you've never really had an option to make a custom built one. And I've installed windows 8 on my desktop already which custom built so i don't know where your coming from with that.

-How when there still will be the same games on PC, why bother with a console, of course you are most likely saying that to add a bit more drama to your story.

-Also GFWL is dead, the reason why it was horrid was because it was not baked into the system or optimized. In windows 8 it is just as good as PSN, XBL and whatever else. The worst parts of GFWL were logging (you are always logged in now) DRM (there is the same amount of DRM as installing an app on your iphone) and performance which as I said earlier is fine.

Also you may say that they will make us pay for online, do you see apple or android doing that? Well they will be the competition and and if they don't the MS won't either.

Oh and one thing to add that they are doing right is each game is required to have a demo or trial. Which is something steam should have done on a platform that really could've used it.

aviator1892152d ago

sure, it'll be a catastrophe for his business and revenue due to a more unified windows experience. this guy's just talking out of his arse, nothing more. all he cares about his pushing his business forward, nothing more.

KingPin2152d ago

isnt this the same guy that said the PS3 was a waste of everyones time and that it wont sell and that sony made a huge mistake and they should work on releasing another console similar to the X360 and should kill the PS3. ima listen to this jackass.

Crazay2152d ago

Newell is a loud mouth Dbag who needs to stop talking. Seriously someone get this guy a muzzle. I don't even know what people see in Valve. Their games are less than revolutionary and they have the worst reputation for missing street dates and keeping their word.

I'm going to get a buttload of disagrees here but in my opinion Left 4 Dead was their best series as far as fun factor goes.

Crazay2152d ago

If memeory serves, he's also the same dude who said Valve would never release anything else on the PS3 then just a couple years later comes out all red-faced and sweating (presumably because removing his foot from his mouth and walking up the steps was too strenuous)saying that he was wrong and that the PS3 was a great platform to develop for?

Yeaaaa...Shut it Gabe

freakinglogan2152d ago

his main complaint about the PS3 was that it was insanely difficult to develop for. All developers hated developing for it. Gabe said it was a waste of time for his internal team to develop for it but he would allow other developers to port his games.

Gabe is probably the smartest dude in the PC space...

KingPin2152d ago

heres is exact words. his not referring to internal staff or third parties.

"The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think it's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," said Newell. "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a 'do over.' Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.'"

"I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over"

source - http://www.computerandvideo...

the tool doesnt know what he is talking about. just coz he cant do anything on it doesnt mean its a waste of time. fat ass should go over to naughty dog and sony santa monica for programming lessons.
