Nuclear energy follows a pretty dated concept of doing whatever benefits us the most now and worrying about consequences later. It will only help the environment until we have loads of waste that we have no real permanent solution for disposing of or a complication occurs like in Japan after that Tsunami.
We need to work towards solar and wind, not nuclear, "clean" coal, etc.
So, what, the technology will be 100% perfect in the future? It will never ever hit a snag and need some manual override to correct.

If the car still has to be driven manually even 1% of the time, it's not of any good to drinkers (well, legally).
