Maybe if there's a Martian life form that approaches Curiosity, Curiosity can use the laser to blast the life form, analyze its composition and then then greet the Martian based what its composition. Of course Curiosity can warn the Martian that she has two other older sisters that have been studying Mars for 8 Earth years and they know Martian secrets.

If next Xbox is really going to use standard x86 Intel or AMD CPU and AMD Radeon, it will be interesting to compared similar configured PC hardware. Reason is developers now has less excuse to not optimize the games the very best possible than simply ask the gamers to buy faster hardware.

Why do fewer PC gamers care if the games are optimized the best possible on lower end hardware? Most want the excuse to feel like the top of the line PC hardware is more "needed" t...

Not that I like Windows, but you must be asleep. Sony isn't any good in making a OS. Just look at PS3 OS. Yes it works quite well for a game console but it has tons of design and copy protection securities problems that if Sony puts the OS on a PC, you will hate it more than Windows.

Second which is more critical than anything is having tons of software made for your OS. Good luck with that if Sony even tries. The closest to come close is Mac. Remember, when you make soft...

Why do we all get so excited that Windows 8 is a new full upgrade OS? Common sense tells you it's just Windows 7.1 with new GUI. Sure there are a few changes or enhancements but any Service Pack can do it.

I guess most of us are sold by Microsoft to think Windows 8 is a major upgrade.

I think not able to use iPad name in China can be a good lesson for Apple. Just because Apple thinks their product names are so popular around most of the world, Apple does not own the market as they like to believe.

How many smaller products out there happened to already own the product name earlier by chance and then muscle out from able to use the name because some bigger company decided they have more rights to take over the product name?

China got lucky ...

Decades of tested and proven old tech is more reliable than new tech that has full of bugs. Also, being limited forces the engineers to carefully write the codes and being small has fewer points of failures to debug.

Just ask yourself why today's latest tech and software takes so much hardware to do so "little"? Inefficient programming with large codes that have tons of points of failure. Why? Quickest way to get the product out of the door and consumers love &q...

You are very right. It's easy to advertise "1080p" because it's just a number. But to live up to the advertised big number, the company needs a lot of bandwidth. So, they do 1080i. But 1080i still need a lot of bandwidth. So, they compress the picture heavily and you see tons of pixelization and artifacts especially when it's showing water wave, image with a lot of objects like a lot of trees in the forest, clouds in the sky and fast panning on the picture. Even the old ...

Just because films like 35mm has high resolution, it does not mean the picture quality is remotely there after digitally scanned. Read some of the articles about film restoration process and you will be amazed on the work needed to get the picture quality up to the standard.

A good example is Blade Runner restoration. I read a detailed article on amount of work that went into the restoration for the movie but I can't find the link. Here are some other articles about it. ...

Good luck getting clean 4K details out of older films. Even at 1080p, it already takes a lot of time and money to clean the older films to look good at 1920x1080.

That's why so many Blu-ray movies look like crap.

4K has its purpose but will be limited to fewer films that have good details in the film and gone through serious remastering. Even for future films, not everyone will care about picture quality that is true 4K quality.

Today's society is all about minimum amount of time and efforts to learn on your own. If there's an enhancer drug, take it to further reduce the time and efforts. Deal with withdraw and side effects later. If can't, sue the drug manufacturer.

The scary part is none of the enhancer drugs sold today have gone through long enough time in testing. Just because the drug doesn't appear to have side effects after 1-2 years, it's not possible to know what will happen 10 years later especially if the drug is often taken for 10 years. Testing on animals can only tell you so much.

And then, the consumers who take the drug like an easy miracle drug. Just because it's said to have no known long team side effects, t...

If ships fire projectile ammo, you will hear from inside the ship as friction generates sound. The ship that got hit by projectile ammo also will hear the explosion inside the ship.

As with movies, audiences don't want to sit through silent movie while watching the battle in space. So movie makers have to add sound in space so that audiences will get excited watching the scene.
