Ugly is as ugly does.
*Checks Pixel 1 XL* Still works. Still wants to update to Android 8.1.0. Wants permission to update 9 apps. I could update to Android 10, but I passed on that. I hate to fix what isn't broken.

Nothing is completely foolproof, but these steps have kept my stuff safe for a long time. Sorry about your troubles.
I'm older than that, and same for me. I watch quite a bit of Amazon Prime Video; but Youtube still comes out on top by a fair margin. It's the free form and huge variety of content that keeps me coming back. I don't understand why anyone thinks this is surprising.
It's a dumb concept. The screen may be twice as big as usual for the pocket size; but its quality is just too compromised. It's soft, easily-scratched, easily creased plastic, not glass. It can't take a screen protector. It can get dust, dirt (and I guess hair) under it. The hinge won't survive sand or grit for long. The touch sensitivity is uneven at best. And it's easily broken. I just don't see this idea becoming practical anytime soon, and it certainly isn&...
Where you are, what you watch, and when you watch. (Not your full hours at home. No one watches TV the whole time they're home.) I don't want to defend privacy invasions, but this doesn't seem to qualify as one. It's perfectly reasonable for them to know how you use their services. Location is usually already known anyway, because you're a subscriber to something, or you have an account where you buy/rent programming a la carte.
And those $800 Android phones become $200 Android phones a couple of years later. That's when I buy them.
No part of that story goes beyond common sense. Phones have become ridiculously expensive, so people buy older models or budget models, and wait longer before they break the bank again. No kidding?
If it can sort "its" from "it's" and "your" from "you're", it will be a boon to the language.
I thought one big advantage of crypto was that it could be kept out of public view entirely. Are these people just not savvy enough about it? (I'm certainly not. Never bought crypto.)
When a recession happens, I'll read your article.
"Many dedicated audio cards are external now . . ."
Which would go along with what I said, wouldn't it? Output the sound digitally to as high-quality and versatile a device as you need. For most of us, the DACs in a good monitor will do. Just get the DA conversion outside of the RF-infested case.
Yes. The PC's future could be ARM (RISC). At least laptops are heading that way, and laptops make the bulk of the PC market.
Not really. See ARESWARLORD ^^. Output the sound digitally, where it can be converted to analog far away from the PC's innards (where all the RF interference lives). A good monitor will have good DACs, and there are other more upscale audio devices with their own DACs.
I quickly found out that my 2016 integrated PC sound couldn't hold a candle to the 2002 SB Audigy 2 in my old PC. Sending the audio through the video card to the monitor's DisplayPort input, a...
Phones have become another tech culture, complete with specs OCD and fanboys. I'm not too surprised to see this, not that I would ever buy one. You're right; good phones from a few years ago are still fine for running current Android software, including games. The one possible exception I can think of is emulators for 3D consoles. I just don't get the appeal of buying a phone specifically for gaming. Use the money on a real gaming system instead, make it a gaming laptop if po...
Big? Big how? Yeah, there's a top bezel, a thin one, for good reasons. And compared to that abortion of design called the notch, it's beautiful.
The best features for this purpose are called Adblock and NoScript.
Fair enough. That's pretty cool, sort of a parallel to autonomous cars.
It's a terrific ruling by the 2nd Circuit. Public officials can't block dissenters on social media. To do so runs afoul of free-speech rights. YES! This means that left-wing politicians can't block conservative dissenters any more than Republican politicians can block socialists. As it should be. This is a big foot in the door. Next, let's extend the ruling to all political censorship on social media.
No doubt. I guess now we can't have airliner landings on Twitter either.
