PlayStation 4 Gets Away With a Terrible 2019

PlayStation might be a popular brand, but that doesn't mean they should get away with having a really terrible year game wise.

affrogamer1606d ago

Speak for yourself. I totally enjoyed Days Gone (8.5/10 for me) and Death Stranding (10/10 for me).

CaptainCook1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

The only good thing Death Stranding is good at is Delivering FedEx parcels

IamTylerDurden11606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

The ignorant sheep who listen to the regurgitated nonsense are the problem.

"Death Stranding is a walking sim"

Chapter 4 is literally ALL combat. The game features guns, grenades, melee, vehicles, bombs, boss fights, and more. Yes, it's a cerebral game with deliveries, but it's also so much more. The social strand is an incredibly well implemented mechanic. The stealth, the building, the traversal. This game is unique, it's deep, it's incredible. It's a joke to act like this is Dear Esther, and the delivery isn't just walking simulation, it's deep, calculated gameplay with planning and strategy. It's unlike anything out there. It's like a mountain climbing simulator was built into a sci fi, stealth horror, action game. Then layer in the setting and the social aspect and it's bloody brilliant.

It's sad that salty people have made it their life's work to ruin this game, but you can't change what is there. Regardless of the mass campaign to discredit this game, it will win MANY game of the year awards. It will retain a passionate following, and history WILL remember Death Stranding as one of this generations misunderstood masterpieces.

To me, this game draws a line. The people who get it, and those that do not. It has helped me identify the type of people that are like minded, free thinkers with the capacity to appreciate truly unique, high level, art. Then the people who simply fear what they don't understand. Those without the depth or the capacity to accept something creative and unique. I'm proud of what this game has accomplished, i'm proud of this game. In a sea AAA copycats Death Stranding is truly original.

neutralgamer19921606d ago

Captain

People like you hate because it's ps4 exclusive and will praise the moment its on pc

neutralgamer19921606d ago

Days gone
Judgement
Mlb the show
Ds
Concrete genie
Blood and truth

Sony has such a high standard that releasing all these games(judgment being from sega) and if Sony is slacking its bad news for their competition because it's means Ps5 will have a stacked like up

We still have ghost and last of us 2 coming along with other games

Playstation has the largest fanbase and we are told how we run sites like these yet on daily bases hate click air articles are up. And than you have positive articles about what Phil the goat Spencer said without delivering anything ever since he took over. But he is great at asking fans to wait it's seem from the last 2 years of Xbox 360 to present Xbox fanbase has been waiting. Wait for E3. Wait for new studios to release games just wait wait and more wait

uptownsoul1606d ago

As a PlayStation guy, I'm really happy that PlayStation gets held to a higher standard than Nintendo or Xbox

S2Killinit1605d ago

I think PlayStations are so consistent in delivering the games that they get judged by a higher standard than the rest.

bluefox7551605d ago

This tired, old talking point, only made by people who haven't played the game is just silly.

JackBNimble1605d ago

IamTylerDurden

You're one to talk calling people ignorant sheep.
I could easily say that you Kojima fanboys are sheep , in fact calling this polished turd a 10/10 is pretty "sheepish " if you ask me.

Sophisticated_Chap1605d ago (Edited 1605d ago )

@ neutralgamer

I'm looking forward to the PC release of DS, if for no other reason than to see the Steam user reviews. You have to own the game to make a review, and if the game performs badly on there, then we can safely say that this game isn't good, and that over excited Kojima fans and the gaming industry as a whole did everything they could to try to inflate this game, all in the name of saving Kojima's legacy. That is absolutely going to be the best part of the PC release. On Steam, the reviews will be completely non-partisan, with the PS4 exclusivity factor, being no factor at all.

Sophisticated_Chap1605d ago

@ CaptainCook

Not true, it's also good at delivering deep gameplay experiences, such as carrying babies, peeing, balancing yourself while you walk, drinking Monster Energy Drinks, and extending ladders to bridge between gaps. You really aren't giving this game the credit it deserves.

Blood and Truth and Concrete Genie too.

SyntheticForm1606d ago

I'm going to be honest about Concrete Genie as I am with all games: I didn't like it at all, and I was utterly bored. I still haven't finished it and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to bring myself to. I can appreciate the theme and style, but again I was so utterly bored playing it.

Days Gone was decent, though everyone here by now knows it was far from my favorite game.

Death Stranding was brilliant and I appreciate everything about it. I was hooked, and the story and presentation were top notch as was the OST and all the musicians that contributed. What a production and utterly important and necessary game in general.

I'd say I had a good year with my PS4.

crazyCoconuts1606d ago

Right, I don't expect them all to appeal to everyone or so be great. Just saying there was a reasonable spectrum of games that were released. And creative games that don't complete our emulate games that third parties are already covering...

Ratchet751606d ago

Judgment from Sega was a great game also.

CaptainHenry9161606d ago

"PlayStation 4 Gets Away With a Terrible 2019"

If that's true what about the competitor 😁

Muzikguy1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Death Stranding is amazing. It's very slow and tedious starting out, but when you finally start getting more into the story things start making sense and I could appreciate the game more for what it is. It's one of my favorites for sure. You can definitely tell it's a Kojima game

When people complain about it I often think they haven't even played it. Everyone calling it a walking sim for example. I really enjoy how the game makes you feel when you do those long hauls on foot in the snow and then towards the end it plays a song that sets the mood even more. It's like "damn, this is what life could be like" kind of games and it's great for that. There are so many weapons and things and tools too that people seem to neglect. There's just so much involved in the game I feel it's almost crazy. I also love that you don't have to pay for Plus to be online with the game either. Sony has my respect for that one. I can't imagine how much tougher it would be without all the help

Edit: multiple edits to post

TheEroica1606d ago

Lol... Reading this post really drives home what a terrible year Sony had. It made for a good laugh though.

rainslacker1605d ago

Death Stranding wasn't a 1st party title, but Days Gone was good. There's also concrete Genie, which while not a AAA was a really nice game, and then Midievel for the nostalgia kick. Shenmue 3 rounded out the 3rd party exclusives for the year. Quite a few niche Japanese games came through the year, although it was lighter than last year. Overall, Sony's own output, whether 1st or second party wasn't as much as last year, but still decent enough, and most of the year was propped up with big 3rd party releases.

I wouldn't say it was a terrible year at all. Just not as game heavy on the 1st party front as we've had the past few years.

derektweed11604d ago

Looks like you realised what I was saying, and Shenmue is not an exclusive since it's on PC and death stranding is a timed exclusive, since it's going to PC next year.

Orionsangel1605d ago

Nothing worse than gamers who are loyal to just one brand.

xX-oldboy-Xx1605d ago

Nothing better I'd say, do you support multiple sports teams?

The appeal of Sony's exclusives (1st, 2nd and 3rd party) and quality hardware is why I'll support PlayStation.

DaDrunkenJester1605d ago

Man I really couldnt like oldboy any less lol

Dude, you're what people hate about rabid fanbases of anything. Blind, ignorant, and just insufferable.

You do know it's okay to be critical to even the brands and teams you're fans if, right? No need to tow the company line especially one you don't even work for.

Muzikguy1605d ago

@Jester

Who says he's not critical of Sony? I know I am, but that doesn't mean I can't be a fan of their gaming systems. You can be loyal and be critical at the same time.

fatbastard111605d ago

I’m glad you did. Those games require very low standards to enjoy.

OMG this is the most ridiculous thing I've read all year 😂 😂 😂

RosweeSon1606d ago

It’s quite correct tho compared to previous few years they’ve had a quiet year I’d say rather than terrible? Terrible infers they stopped selling consoles and people jumping ship. Far from the truth as consoles still selling in the millions they just didn’t have a new TLOU2 or big hitters like that. They’ve had plenty this gen tho so a quiet 6-12 months is fine by me they still been releasing games after all as mentioned above. Click bait over dramatised headlines at their finest. Of this was a terrible year for Sony/PlayStation what can be said of Xbox this gen 😑😑🤦 27995;‍♂️😂

Rude-ro1606d ago

I think that is the point..
Only Sony gets these articles.
Microsoft has sucked for the last 9 years, made more hardware variants that 1st party AAA games, passed off indie style games with full AAA prices ...
And Sony gets negative articles. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chris121605d ago

Quick Rude-ro, mention MS to deflect from the article. Predictable

Chevalier1605d ago

Xbox this gen? Waiting Simulator IRL.

SyntheticForm1605d ago

@Rude-ro

That's because nobody expects anything of Microsoft. It's a foregone conclusion, every year, that Microsoft isn't going to do anything.

Sony gets piled on because they're the standard - the bar. Everyone expects great things from Sony, so if they're perceived to fall the tiniest bit short, you get a bunch of silly articles.

Microsoft is praised for putting a good game on Game Pass, and while nice, an IP from Microsoft that's new and original would be so much better.

zackeroniii1605d ago

if 2019 was terrible for Playstation I could only imagine what dog shit year the Xbox has had

leoms1605d ago

I can't wait for the Xbox piece lmao

ApocalypseShadow1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Really? More click bait garbage.

Sony put out first party titles like Day's Gone, Concrete Genie, MLB The Show, Medievil, and published Death Stranding that sold well. They put out VR titles like Blood and Truth and Everybody's Golf that sold well. Still supports the Sony published Firewall Zero Hour with more map content. The only console that has No Man's Sky VR.

And that's not including third party support from Capcom like RE2 Remake or Monster Hunter that used to be on Nintendo, Ace Combat 7 from Namco that has the best flying VR mode ever. I could make a list of games that came out on regular or VR that don't support this articles narrative.

Don't bother reading the garbage or waste your time. And next year, we got more coming from TLofU 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Iron Man VR, Dreams, Sniper Elite VR, Crisis Vrigade 2, etc.

Ridiculous narrative. And then, the knucklehead is saying both TLofU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima will be obsolete when they will play on PS5. Such a dummy. 100+ million customers to maybe 2-5 million PS5 customers by the end of 2020. Where is it going to sell more? Go take business class. Economics. Something.

Hardiman1606d ago

This made my head hurt! I'm convinced some of these folks have Stockholm syndrome.

Smokehouse1605d ago

Long winded but true. They didn’t have a killer year true but next year is stacked. To criticize their “bad year” would have to ignore their ongoing projects. I would call
it an off year for sure but that isn’t relevant in terms of brand decline. The board members aren’t surprised or worried. What’s to criticize? They stacked the last year of the PS4? Most developers did that apparently.

AspiringProGenji1606d ago (Edited 1606d ago )

Days Gone
Mlb the show
Concrete genie
Medievil
Death stranding

Not the best year, but very far from terrible

P_Bomb1606d ago

Everyone always forgets Judgment :(

“... The question is, will PlayStation 5 poach all of the good games for itself, leaving the final days of the PS4 to wallow in mediocrity?”

The answer is:
Nioh 2
TLOU2
Ghost of Tsushima
Yakuza 7
FF 7
Dreams
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
MLB The Show

“... When they come out a decent chunk of their audiences will probably consider holding off for the inevitable next-gen version.”

So, damned if you do damned if you don’t.

“... It’s all well and good relying on brand loyalty to keep you afloat, but loyalty is a finite resource. If they’re not careful, people will have stopped caring by the time the PS5 comes out.”

Or just damned.

ApocalypseShadow1606d ago

Basically, the guy ignores all the games that released on PS4 this year on the console and VR. I would have made a bigger list, but it's not even necessary for this fool's narrative.

Then says the 2 biggest games will be obsolete because of next Gen. Like all gamers are going to wait to play them next Gen. Or, be able to afford next Gen right at launch.

I hate trash articles.

NeoGamer2321605d ago

Agreed. The games this year were more niche market games rather then broad appeal games, but that doesn't make the year horrible.

DaDrunkenJester1605d ago (Edited 1605d ago )

- Days Gone disappointed.
- MLB The Show is a MT packed game the likes of Madden which no one wants to point out.
- Concrete Genie was good, but wasn't anything standout or exciting.
- MediEvil disappointed anyone but the biggest fans who had nostalgia.
- Death Stranding was so divisive that Metacritic had to delete 6400 negative user reviews just to get it to a 7.4 lol

I had more fun with their PSVR line up this year than any of their main ps4 games...

Rhezin1605d ago

Haha finally someone honest. I feel the exact same about Days Gone and Death Stranding. I really only enjoyed RE:2, Star Wars: FO, Blasphemous, Bloodstained, and Children of Morta this year.

ShadowWolf7121605d ago

Days Gone was a great game, Concrete Genie was beautiful, and MediEvil literally impressed the audience it was made for so what's the issue?

derektweed11604d ago

Death Stranding is a timed exclusive, Medievel was a terrible remake of a PSONe game, Concrete genie is like an indie game and MLB the Show is a baseball game that no one outside of the US cares about.

Days Gone is the only AAA 1st Party exclusive that Sony released this year. Last year they only had God of war, Which was brilliant. Where is Sony's famous 1st party output that everyone always goes on about?

This CCN site just goes for broke on the flame bait.

It wasn't even their worst year, so I don't think anyone is going to take the hyperbole here too seriously.

I would rank it almost dead center as far as "ps4 years." 2016, 2017, and 2018 were probably better, but this year tops 2014 and 2015 for me.

Tross1606d ago

It really is the CNN of gaming!

qalpha1606d ago

Didn't 2015 have Bloodborne?

Atom6661606d ago

Yeah. Your big ones that year were Bloodborne, The Order, Drake collection, and Until Dawn.

I adored Unti Dawn, and despite already playing through all of the Uncharted games, I enjoyed playing through the collection. Try as I did, I just couldn't get into Bloodborne. By 2015, I was probably just tired of Souls games. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I would take Days Gone over BB everytime.

Just my opinion though. I don't think you could go wrong saying 2015 was the better year. Doesn't mean this was a "terrible 2019" though.

Umb1606d ago

Not sure but I think CCN is a Chinese CCP sponsored media outlet, like CCTV, Global Times.

Something I will always be wary about and take what they say with a barrel of salt.
