But games are why I buy game systems. If I wanted a Netflix machine, there are cheaper options for that. I’m not a big fan of services, and no, MS has not convinced me that I need them. I’d much rather invest in a system with great exclusives that set it apart from a very similar competitor system. I want whatever this author is smoking.

The gaming industry disagrees with the headline. The two platforms that are consistently releasing amazing games and exclusives are enjoying strong hardware sales while the one that has been more iffy isn't. We have just about every service we could possibly hope for on our consoles as it is, I'm in the next generation for the power and good games.

This guy has to be high good games are what attracts people to the system and good games are what separates the console from the other consoles on the market. Having a powerful machine will push developers to develop great games and bring their vision of that game to your home.

Not having good games and power, at least at the beginning of the gen, certainly didn't do Xbox any favors. Likewise having the most powerful console in the gen gave MS nothing more than a talking point.

Consoles are cheap enough that a lot of people will buy one just to play a single amazing game. Then hopefully they get hooked and buy more. Amazing games are what makes a console successful.

WTF??? Great exclusives & power equals SLAY!!! Something that Sony PS continues to do knowing that their PS4 is the worlds best selling console this gen along with putting out great exclusives as they'll SLAY next gen as well.

I play games on my Playstation...I mean that's what why I bought it. If MS or Nintendo had the quality exclusives, I would have bought one of those.

Once again, I bought a console to play games and it matters if they are good. Good games make me want to buy more good games and future consoles because I like to play good games on my console.

Well without reading the article, outside of good games and power, only an affordable price really matters assuming everything else stays within expectations.

Outside of those core 3 things, it's really a matter of not pissing everyone off (online only for example). It'll take something amazing for Microsoft or Google to knock Sony into irrelevancy.

Something like crossplay by default for xbox could be a huge boon but personally, I'm a PC gamer first when I can get all my games there, my only need from a console comes down to exclusives (including console exclusives such as RDR2) which Sony has been consistently better at imo but MS has also bought several studios themselves so we'll see.

As for Google, creating the Netflix or YouTube of gaming is a lofty goal, it could take years of struggling to achieve something mainstream so I hope they're in this for the long haul because I predict early adoption to be slow, at least too slow to compete with Sony & MS next gen.

Nintendo really just does there thing to the side so it's hard to determine their impact. No one in their right mind has ever bought A Nintendo console for their AAA 3rd party games, only their exclusives which has a very particular(albeit large) market. They also normally lack console exclusives so that's why I personally don't consider them.

Well this gen proved it is all about variety and a constant releasing of games with quality.

Microsoft has most powerful console and great services and yet they are far behind

Nintendo did gimmicks, releasing weak console again and focusing on releasing a lot of their platforms famous games and yet they are not competing. And getting free passes more than ever.

Sony proved the value of releasing, Persona, Nier, Yakuza, Street Fighter, God of War, KH remastered, PSN classics, Horizon, GT sport, Dragon Quest 11, FFXIV, Ni No Kuni 2, Blooborne, Nioh, Until Dawn, Detroit, Last of Us remastered, Earth Defence Force, Gundam Breaker, Uncharted, The Last Guardian, TSOC, many anime games, and most asked for game across the globe Final Fantasy VII remake and we all know it it is a PS game even if it only timed exclusive.

If this means anything, it means it doesn't matter how powerful and perfected is your online services and how well shooters and sport games are doing, and it doesn't matter how many Pokemon, Zelda and Mario game you release constantly, if you don't releasing things in Ps3, Ps2, Ps1 way, you will only have accident success once like Wii and 360.

Good game, power, zero censorship and zero wokeness (No political BS) is what Sony needs. It applies to any console. Power allows developers to be more creative without limitations so making a good game. Good game means people will buy it. There is a reason why Pegi and ESRB exist so let them do their purpose by rating the games appropriately. SJWs are not the target audience as they are not the mass majority, they probably dont even buy your games and its just something they want to complain and scream about on the internet. As an xbox fan.... I see they dont need anything beside good exclusives... My xbox one is in my case and i m using ps4 for everything now as long as ps dominates exclusives they will stay on top

You know what's great. I don't own stock in either company. So I buy them both. Who cares who's " on top" . And if I did own stock in either one, I would definitely want it all on Microsoft. They are certainly " on top" in market value. But again WHO CARES!!!
