PS5 — and Not Google Stadia or Microsoft's Project xCloud — Is the Future of Gaming. Here’s Why.

Gadgets 360 says: "What the PS5 tells us about the future of gaming, Google Stadia, and Microsoft's Project xCloud."

“- The PS5 will support physical and digital games
- It will support PS Now streaming too
- Developers and consumers should have more options on offer”

With just those three sentences the argument should be automatically over. No further need to elaborate on common sense.

No reasonable way for anybody to argue against such strong points that get further fledged out in detail within the article.

ThinkThink1833d ago

Your argument applies to MS as well as Sony.

AnubisG1833d ago

You are saying this when MS is about to release the Xbox One SAD edition....

fiveby91833d ago

I was thinking that this also applied to MS XB as well. But if the next Xbox has no optical drive and only supports digital download then MS will be in a heap load of trouble trying to pick up market share from Sony. Perhaps MS views Google as their imminent threat battling for the new younger gamers and casuals? Having the option for all three forms of game delivery/purchase is preferable to me.

WilliamSheridan1833d ago

So based on the original post, Microsoft automatically ties with Sony since that statement applies to them as well. No reasonable way to argue against that

aconnellan1832d ago

Yeah I feel like people somehow think that xCloud is actually the next Xbox, because people seem to be comparing it to the PS5, which is stupid.

The next Xbox will support physical/digital; will support Game Pass/xCloud and such; developers will have more options on offer.

Those are the broadest points to apply to a console ever, so you’re spot on that they apply to MS too

Godmars2901832d ago (Edited 1832d ago )

@WilliamSheridan:
Except that MS plans, have opened the option, to phase out physical media, just as they planned to greatly devalue with their original XB1 launch plans.

At the very least, such shows that both companies are not similar.

gangsta_red1832d ago

@godmars

I see you keep pushing your fiction even when Sony is far ahead in the streaming business more than MS.

Godmars2901832d ago

@gangsta_red:
Enjoy your games kid. I'm done.

agnosticgamer1832d ago

@Anubis the Xbox One S All-Digital is simply a test run at the future... Whether you like it or not probably after this next generation of consoles... All digital future will be on the horizon it will get here sooner or later and that is just a fact more digital games are sold now than the average physical game sales. As digital catches on more and more... Disc drives in consoles will disappear to cut costs.

Codewow1832d ago

@AnubisG options are options if someone wants all digital let them have it.

When did Microsoft say they were ditching physical ? Nothing wrong with having a discless console option KEYWORD here is OPTION for those that dont buy physical. The Sony Defense Force smh

bluefox7551833d ago

They don't have to say it, it's clear that is the direction they're moving in.

Livingthedream1833d ago

@bluefox it's no secret that they would prefer a disc less console, but doing it would probably be death for the xbox. I can see them releasing equally powerful consoles, but one without the blu ray player at a lower price point to test the waters

OB1Biker1833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

Removing a disc option is not more option haha
If only there were some advantage like being smaller or something

THC CELL1833d ago

Ms will not sell that sad console well

bluebenjamin1833d ago

SDF here The real problem with this discless console is that it says Xbox and not Playstation! The truth is out 🤷🏿‍♂️

Gaming4Life19811833d ago

Dillydilly dont even try cause on here they dont go by facts or the truth, they just say and believe whatever to try and smear MS & Xbox.

paintedgamer19841833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

Livingthedream:

The death of the console? That bleeding started with rrod. Who gaf if they replaced, warrantied, ect... the fact is it put bad tastes in our mouths that wasnt there before and thats no ones fault but ms's... MS'S!

And then you could say the bleeding continued when support for the 360 ended years before the xb1... years as in plural

And then you could say the disterous xb1 launch shot ms in the face point blank... that prob hurt ms more than anything prior... their customers were already hanging by a thread...

And then you could say shoving kinnect down our throats with the xb1 and telling us... the xb1 wont even work without kinnect... lies more lies

And they you could say when they started moving all xbox exclusive titles to the pc that made it pointless to even own an xbox...

And then you could say this entire 7 years are what murdered the xbox... along with everything prior they did. Every passing day they are BLEEDING customers... when crap gamer starts talking shit about xbox something is seriously awry lmao

Im sure there is lots im forgetting... like telling its customers direct x was going to make xb1 more powerful than an ps4 😂... they have lied so much i cant even keep up.

And recently, xb1 SAD edition 😂😂... what in the actual F... they cannot stop face palming... im damn disgusted this is an american gaming company... make us look like a bunch of egotistical idiots that dont know their arse from their elbow

Michiel19891833d ago

@Biker
giving consumers the option to buy a console with or without drive disc is actually in fact more options, that you don't like that option is a whole different story.

WilliamSheridan1833d ago

@dillydilly

Sony fans make up facts to sorry the arguments. Meanwhile we just use facts to counter them

Why would you want an OPTION with a discless console, while you can get a console with disc and digital in one?

Knushwood Butt1832d ago

@ Red

I'd hope they have market research. Not sure who they targeted though..

TheSaint1832d ago (Edited 1832d ago )

How is removing options giving more options? I'd rather have a full console that includes BOTH options of downloading and using physical.

That's what you call options.

nirwanda1832d ago

@reddevils nobody makes money on console hardware to begin with all the money is in game sales, ms/Sony will make more money from digital sales no disk/ packaging to produce no second hand market etc, so they could knock off quite a bit of money early on to make more cash in the long run, plus console may run cooler if the case has more room.

The PS5 and Xbox Next will support physical and digital games
- It will support PS Now and Xcloud streaming too
- Developers and consumers should have more options on offer”

There’s a way. Xbox is doing the same thing with its next offering. It seems like it’s actually gonna have more options with a High End and Entry level and a streaming option. The media seems to forget MS announced a new next gen console last year

rainslacker1833d ago

Media hasn't forgotten anything. We get countless articles about how ms is poised so well for the future. If there is anything that the media forgot, it's that Sony has had a streaming service before this gen even started. Sony has had a streaming service longer than the time between ms announcing theirs and the length of this generation. Yet ms and Google are getting credit as the innovators and the ones that will usher in this new era

paintedgamer19841833d ago

Funny thing is... it doesnt matter how powerful the next xbox is or what they do.

rainslacker1833d ago

What sorcery is this article? Staring the obvious, yet its somehow actually relevant. It's an Easter miracle!

gangsta_red1832d ago Show
rainslacker1832d ago

@Gangsta

I suppose it's about as relevant as comparing some streaming services that aren't released, while somehow sayin they're going to be better than the current streaming options that are available.

And this article is about counter to the countless articles which already claim MS or Google are going to win next gen because of their streaming services, or because one brought some studios, or because they have game pass, or Spencer farted on the bus and it smelled like tulips, or any other made up nonsense that happens across the journalists mind.

Also, learn what sarcasm is. Don't act like MS hasn't gotten a disproportionate number of articles saying how what they're doing is the future.

1832d ago
rainslacker1832d ago

@Vokun

I assume you mean I"m delusional given your comment history.

I question why either of you get so uppity about it. I wasn't even talking about MS in my original post, but the general principal of streaming somehow taking over gaming.

Article focused in on PS5, but most of the articles up until now have been about how MS would rule next gen because of their services. Anyone who says otherwise is the delusional one, and being very selective about playing the victim.

gangsta_red1831d ago

@rainslacker

And those articles are just as cringe worthy as the one here the only problem I see is that one is now propping up a favored console instead.

"And this article is about counter..."

So now we've come to this? Having to now hope for counter articles that happen to paint MS and Google in a good light to feel good?

"...made up nonsense that happens across the journalists mind."

It's good to see that my point is proven when some made up fiction is more accepted and celebrated by journalists than others then.

"Don't act like MS hasn't gotten a disproportionate number of articles saying how what they're doing is the future."

And this is problem how? What exactly is the correct number of articles MS should have? No one seems to mind the "disproportionate" amount of articles saying PS5 or Sony holds the keys to the future. But there seems to be a tally kept on how many articles are released involving MS.

But let's also pretend we haven't seen the many articles praising Sony.

rainslacker1831d ago (Edited 1831d ago )

"So now we've come to this?"

Dude....we've been at this for years now. Articles pop up about some recent news. Tons of opinion pieces come along. Depending on the side that the media seems to favor for any given topic, everyone agrees or disagrees depending on their preference. The one counter article crops up, and suddenly, it's all too much, and the one side that wasn't getting the love calls foul and plays the victim and suddenly isn't for these kinds of articles, despite the fact they had no problem on the 100 or so before.

Get over it. MS will be fine. Sony will be fine. Nintendo will be fine. You'll be fine. I'll be fine. Life will go on.

"And this is problem how? "

It's not a problem. It's just they way it is. I'm just commenting on how an article stating the obvious, even with a PS slant, which wasn't what I was referring to in my sarcastic comment, seems to be disproportionate to the side of lacking common sense.

"What exactly is the correct number of articles MS should have? "

How about none? How can these opinion pieces in any way predict that MS will dominate the next gen based on some services which are unproved, and aren't even dominating on Sony's own platform? Yet we still get them...and there are many of them.

Anyhow, I'm done with this conversation. I wasn't even referring to MS in my comment. Just the thing about streaming or services somehow taking over traditional consoles anytime soon....especially as soon as next gen.

THE deciding factor is that Sony’s PlayStation division is a gaming company.

Everything evolves.. gets upgraded, changes made...
But Sony has a vision for how it wants to present games. Their focus is games.
Not how they want you to play games.

We are waiting for Microsoft to provide this, but they want in on the gaming business.. not to be a gaming business. Same as google.
Great for options... but this then raises the question of why do they want in gaming.

UltraNova1832d ago (Edited 1832d ago )

Agreed but next gen we'll start seeing Sony entering the GaaS fray (in small steps of course and in a far less predatory way than other companies), alongside their usual onslaught of great SP games. There is no getting around this, unfortunately.

WelkinCole1833d ago

one key thing missing. games. boatloads of games. top notch games. variety of games that has kept core gamers and casuals happy and the gaming industry going. aka playstation special sauce

Zeref1833d ago

Yes it will support streaming but why would you pay $400 to stream games? lol

The whole point of Streaming is that it lowers the cost of entry significantly, meaning more people can play.

I don't think consoles are going away anytime soon but there is enough space for game streaming as well. Eventually streaming will be the popular way to play. just like music and tv.

But that doesn't mean consoles are going away. Because the quality will just be much higher. It's the reason why bluray discs still sell.

jeki1833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

Those things aren't vitally important to everyone. Different people have different ways of looking at things.

super_bruno1833d ago

PS5 is the only console worth buying. There is no need for a MS console anymore. Bring Xbox Game Streaming service to PS and the ability to use Xbox controller on PS5 ( for those who prefer it) and that is all we need.

paintedgamer19841832d ago

Id mostly agree with you but gamepass does have amazing value even if ill never own another xbox anything lol. But solely on its own its def not worth buying an xbox lmao so yeah youre right 😂

paintedgamer19841832d ago

I disagree with your disagree lol. I dont understand how anyone finds value in an xb1 this entire 7 years on the market. The 500$ og xb1 with forced kinnect and more tv options than a tv should have been the first sign shit was going terribly wrong. How are you more expensive AND underpowered... surely for the extra 100$ they were charging for kinnect could have gotten more ram, higher clocked cpu, ect... esp with all those billions of $$$... but nope... yall got shafted with a damn camera noone asked for

agent45321832d ago

That's what missing in this industry common sense. Look at Steam or GOG they are very gamer friendly but game developers choose money over anything else. My worry is Google does the same with Stadia meaning if game developers put their games on Stadia they get 80 percent of profit/revenue for say game and decide to go with Google Stadia over Sony

1832d ago
1832d ago
NeoGamer2321832d ago

Ummmmm…. Let's break this down to facts based on what these companies are doing today.

“- The PS5 will support physical and digital games
- It will support PS Now streaming too
- Developers and consumers should have more options on offer”

Although XB has not announced all their future business models going forward it seems logical that Microsoft as they do today will support both physical and digital games. Yes, they are shipping an XB without a media disc, but they are still shipping with a media disc so I don't think they will take that option away. To me, the media disc is an option. I may prefer to buy games physically so I buy the version of the console that allows me to do this, and if I prefer digital I can save $50 and buy a version of the console that doesn't have a media disc. That provides the consumer greater flexibility to buy only what they need vs having to buy something the may never use.

Yes, PS supports streaming, and so will XB through xCloud. We already know this.

Developers and consumers should have more options on offer... Ummmmm. That is a flat no on PS5. Microsoft offers subscription services that you download the games from their GamePass service. MS has stated they don't see this going away with xCloud and have stated the best experience will be download and play locally for the foreseeable future. This is not available on PS today. Does not mean they can't provide it on PS5 but that has not yet been announced with PSNow.

Also, when you develop on PS, that is the only game platform that it works upon, while MS is pushing that coding games using the MS gaming platform allows them to work on PC, Mobile, and Console allowing developers to access billions of gamers rather then just 100 million. And as a consumer I can play my games on many platforms.

PS5 looks like a strong offering. But to say they have the most flexible consumer options and strongest developer option is factually incorrect. Sony is essentially the Apple of gaming. Everything is great as long as you are only on PS (And that is the only reason I have bought a iPad and PS is so that I can buy the exclusive stuff on each platform). As soon as you want to play those same games on other devices with the same profile you are told to go buy another PS device. Sony doesn't even support PSN gaming on the Sony Xperia phones. You have to buy a true PS device to game. I have a very high end PC with 500 Mbps internet and downloaded PSNow, the interface is junk. I still play some games through it but it is highly limited. The only good place to access PSNow is on the PS4 really.

But, I think all is good, this competition is making gaming more consumer friendly. Eventually, gamers will be one community rather than Sony, Nintendo, XB, Steam, Epic, or mobile communities. I can't wait for that day.

+ Show (11) more repliesLast reply 1831d ago
zsquaresoff1833d ago

Leaving the features of PS5 aside, they're exclusive games alone would beat the competition.

KeenBean3451833d ago

Exclusives have always been a constant when it comes to Sony and Nintendo and it's no surprise that they are both miles infront of Microsoft in gaming. If Google haven't realised this and think they can get big off of 3rd party games with latency issues then they have a nasty surprise waiting for them

Livingthedream1833d ago

It's the brand, and the price. Games do matter but when they lost GTA, final fantasy metal gear etc, it didn't really have an impact on them.

xX-oldboy-Xx1833d ago

They didn't lose them haha - those games helped PS1/2 for sure. But when they came to other consoles the war was won.

New ips and continuing support loved franchises (Not milking) is what Sony does best.

And they'll continue to do that.

Livingthedream1833d ago

They milk franchises as well. It's the norm, but yes they do work on new IP's and generally do a great job allowing their studios to express themselves. IMO naughty dog is what really sets them apart. That was my point no one was buying a PS3 for killzone, infamous, the first uncharted but people still bought the console. So them losing the exclusive third party games didn't really hurt them too much. Because people still wanted their PS,

paintedgamer19841832d ago

I cant even fathom what a 3rd or 4th year ps5 game even looks like. Imagine gow or the next offering from hzd... not to mention whatever new i.p.s built from the ground up on the ps5 😬 my eyes will be bleeding 😱

Saijahn1832d ago

Next gen hasn’t started to say what exclusives anyone has...this gen Sony exclusives reigned supreme. It forced MS to invest in a super first party studio and buy other devs.

Next gen may be a whole different story my friend, no one knows YET.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

darthv7222h ago

to you it may seem like the minority... but your bubble is shrinking because more and more are following suit. convenience is a hell of a drug and its also why physical sales only amount to 30% of overall game sales. times are changing, you either get with them or you get left behind.

neutralgamer199217h ago

Darth

30% physical sales: yet Phil and xbox division are in a rush go give up on that 30%. they don't have any right to give up any piece of the pie since the control such a little of the pie to begin with

also, the market is clearly speaking that the model Xbox is pushing isn't working right now the keyword being right now. you are right about freedom to play anywhere so i hope they put their games on steam

shinoff21831d 11h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga1d 10h ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

darthv721d 4h ago

They are not reliant on the HW but still want to maintain a presence (no matter how small) is a good thing. It shows commitment to the craft. It reminds me of SNK and how they made games for their own hardware (Neo Geo) while also making them for others because they knew there was a market to do so. They knew they would sell more to others but also sell to their own niche fan base.

TheEroica22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

Perfectly reasonable post down voted by insecure corporation friendly folk.... But not gamers. Real gamer want accessibility and ease of acquisition for all.... Company shills are the only ones still telling us that hardware locking people from games is good for us.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers2d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty.
