Christ I hate this guy. And not sure why anyone listens to him, he's maybe right 30% of the time. Gaming is a very hard business to predict since gamers can be fickle.

Well... Microsoft did say that they were moving to an iterative model instead of new generations, so that would make sense.

While I understand the reasoning behind releasing the next Xbox before the next PS (look at last gen, it had them in the lead for most of the generation), I think it would be an unsavory move. The best, I think, would be releasing at the same time. The One X just came out, the Pro has a full year on it, if they release a year before the PS5, they'll have given a $500 dollar device a rather short lifespan. A big F you to fans.

Like I said before, they want the early release to get the momentum going like the Xbox360. Due to midgen upgrades, there's no reason to wait or delay the launch a year later. Who knows, there might be two midgen upgrades next gen.

Release more games not more consoles ... before your costumers get back faith in ur products its pointless...

If Microsoft dropped the next Xbox before 2020 they will be looking a hell of a lot like Sega did. Since 2013 they have release OG Kinect Xbox, Xbone S and Xbone X a year after that. Sony has released PS4 and PRO, in a 7 year period to release 4 different SKUs would just not be a good look. At least in my eye's it would look good to me.

Whatever the gamescom hardware reveal maybe, hopefully it's just VR related.

Instead of focusing on next gen hardware, how about giving it the one thing gamers want,... games?!

Sorry, but I am having the hardest time supporting Xbox this generation.

Ps5 will come out before the next Xbox. We all saw how coming to the market first helped Xbox 360. We line in a society where people don't want to wait everyone wants it now

Pro coming a full year ahead of X was a smart move by Sony because it meant they can release their next system a year before the next Xbox

Sony coming out and saying we won't talk about hardware right before E3 was pretty telling because I looked at it as we will do it next year

Ps5 coming November 2019 with the last of us 2 and ghost as it's launch titles along with every major 3rd party release looking and playing better. Death stranding in early following year. Having the whole year to yourself means many who want new systems won't wait for next Xbox because many of their friends will buy ps5. So I actually think there is some weight behind ms wanting to release next Xbox before Ps5. But they will get too much flake if they release one so soon after X

I feel like ms is in weird spot if they put first Sony can have the better specs if they come our after Sony will have a big install base

Just for comparison sake Xbox 360 had a 6-7 million lead on ps3. It took ps3 over 6 years to catch up to surpass. PS5 coming out first we are looking at atleast 10-15 million within first year

For me it makes sense and here is why...

Last Gen Microsoft Lau ched the Xbox 360 1 year before the PS3 and that gave them a head start and help them be #1 in USA.

Microsoft may try this strategy again as it helped last Gen. They know they don't stand a chance if they release at the same time as the PS5.

Is that a good idea? They just launched the xb1x. If the X is $500, will they drop it by $100 & sell the newest for $500? WTF are they doing???

I think they are playing the 360 strategy they launched almost a year in advance and had a better price point combined with a larger library of established titles by the time the ps3 came about.

Combine this with the complexity of the ps3s architecture and developers taking a few years to fully grasp it the quality of games remained better on the 360 for a few years at least.

Im not sure if history will repeat itself though sony learnt some valuable lessons like don't launch the console at a rediculas price point most people can't afford and listen to what gamers actually want.

Given most people are happy with the generation still unlike the last gen where everyone just wanted it over because games like crysis 3were running at 20 frames I can't see being first as a major advantage this time

I'm not sure you can launch a year in advance and still have the most powerful console... Spencer only promised the most powerful, not the first ones out...

As an X owner I am curious if any other X owners would be happy with a new console launching in the next 12 months. Personally I would prefer they gave us a large number of exclusives to capitalise on the console. As for their next console, if it does come sooner then I would certainly expect them to continue supporting the X. My expectation is that X will be the Xbox 2 base model, maybe a bigger HDD and possibly more energy efficient if possible. Then from there I expect the Xbox 2 premium which will be priced either the same as or even $50 above the X. This price point would help ensure they can have the stronger console when PS5 launches shortly after ( assuming X2 comes first). If this were the case I doubt Sony would be threatened by having a PS5 running at 1-2tflops less.

I just don't understand why these guys worry so much about release dates. Make sure the console is a big leap from what we currently have and launch it will a decent catalog of games. Most launches always forget to have good launch games and think that is more important than launching a console a month before the competition

There might actually be some truth to this. If you consider no one is going to go for a 8k machine. The target will be 4k/60. There isn't that much needed as far as more power than we will get from GPUs next year. We will also see those GPUs hit 7nm and we will get Ryzen most likely on both consoles. With a few proprietary tweaks we'll see the real effort placed on design. These will be exotic designs on the APUs, but power will be very much in line with what will already be out there. So Threadripper 8 core with Navi and changes for exceptional efficiency for a consistent 4k/60. Then they will add AI and a ton of RAM and probably a hybrid HD.

I would be surprised if they put out the console next year but they have stated their "no more generations" mantra so if they treat it like an upgrade similar to the X then who knows especially if they suspect Sony is going to. We only have to wait 6 or 7 months to find out.

Releasing your console before competition with no big titles to support it, it's a bad move.

that would be odd. especially since the X was released not so long ago. but its MC. i wouldnt be surpirsed by a release date announcement at gamescom haha.

I could care less who launch 1st. PS5 will be my next console.

Call of Duty 2019 is why he thinks so since both systems are expected to be backwards compatible anyway so what are they wasting money for.

I am an big Xbox fan. With that said, it does not matter when they launch, they will never, ever, beat Sony world wide in sales. Sony is just far too entrenched in the conscience of everyone. Sony is Coca Cola, Microsoft will forever be Pepsi. I am okay with that being a weird Pepsi drinker.

I can't imagine it being too much before the next PS. If we aren't going to see the PS5 until 2020, it would be silly of MS to release a new system in 2019 since the X has only been out for 8-9 months (?), now.

I bought a PS4 Pro instead and called it a day. Problem solved.

It doesn't matter when it launches. Today tomorrow, or in three years. Unless it's got multiple unique quality exclusives that I can't get anywhere else, then I'm sticking with the Station. With PlayStation I know in one year I can get God of War, Detroit and Spider-Man. Those games there will not persuade me into picking up yet another piece of Xbox hardware. Your hardware is fine. You just need the games that are games not Microtransaction Simulators.

Microsoft can make big market gains with a year head start. Really depends on how big of a change next-gen is gonna offer.

They are dumb if they do so , Phil Spencer said they are going to have the most powerfull console next gen also so they will wait for PS5. I wanted to buy an Xbox X but now I wont , I better wait for the next consoles to roll out with Ryzen CPU in them. (soz for my english).

Well if they launch before PS5 expect an upgrade to their next console trying to out do the PS5 I think the PS5 is going to be one very powerful console the writing is on the wall sure Xbox One X is powerful but lacks first party games PS4/PRO doesn't. Looking at games that Sony had at e3 showed me that the PS4/PRO has games coming that look better than Xbox One X games showing third party games that are coming to other platforms wasn't a good showing IMO.
