Phil Spencer Has Played The First Games On Xbox Scorpio

Microsoft continues to tease its imminent release of the Xbox Scorpio console as Phil Spencer has play tested some games on the system already.

christocolus2654d ago (Edited 2654d ago )

Nice. I remember him saying the team was ahead of schedule. I hope we have the reveal before E3. According to Thomas Mahler (Moon Studios) Scorpio is a full blown next gen console in terms of specs. https://i.imgur.com/EAcJvbI...

I agree @Christocolus, don't be surprised, i believe new announces coming in soon indicating that in May we going to see reveal.

darthv722654d ago

I'd imagine all the games he has played are essentially existing xb1 games but super sampled to run on scorpio much like ps4 games on the pro. It probably wont be very long before we get scorpio only projects that really showcase the benefits of the advanced hardware.

If sony were smart they would be working on the same thing. No offense to the 8th gen but it has been rather lackluster overall and these console refreshes are a new beginning to wipe the slate clean and start over. I for one expect there to eventually be exclusives for pro and scorpio that initial users will not be able to enjoy without upgrading.

no matter what the suits say... if people gravitate towards these enhanced systems then gamers are going to be expecting some dedicated games in return. The suits will have to realize that they cant keep supporting the older product forever no matter how many people they may piss off. you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

@christocolus19h
"..Scorpio is a full blown next gen console"

going to be a hard time convincing people when it's only 30% more than PS4Pro.

conanlifts2653d ago

@new monday. Just for information the gpu is not 30% more powerful. The ps4 is 4.2tflops. 30% of 4.2 is 1.26. So 30% more powerful would be a 5.46 tflop gpu.
The real figure is closer to 42% if you want to quote the power difference.

DivoJones2654d ago

They generally do a fan event in May to get some of the announcements going ahead of E3. I would expect that this year with a hands-on event to showcase the box and some games a few weeks ahead, but hold the release date and price until E3.

fr0sty2654d ago

"Microsoft continues to tease its imminent release of the Xbox Scorpio" when did 10 months become imminent?

badz1492653d ago

The year of the Scorpio, remember? Their 2017 hasn't started yet.

2654d ago
yeahokwhatever2654d ago

I've been ahead of schedule since I built my first gaming PC. The scorpio is a steam machine for windows. shhhhhh

3-4-52653d ago

I don't care about specs as much as I want the games to be fun. XB1 right now doesn't have as many fun games as it should. I enjoyed the Original Xbox and Xbox 360's library of games more than I'm liking the XB1's.....it's not terrible but I feel it should be stronger than it is.

I'm hoping the Scorpio has a ton of fun games regardless of the graphics.

I'm wondering what the console will look like. I love the Xbox One S design but I do hope they make Scorpio look significantly different.

alstruck2654d ago

I've heard that it looks like a box, with somekinda xbox mark..

zaherdab2654d ago

Sounds like it's an Xbox console

@Crypt_Concepts I don't think we've had bring up of full games this early for new hw, gives teams time to tune their games for best results."

I am no fan of Xbox or MS but seriously, this is not concerning for anyone?

Yohshida2654d ago

10 months to go. Some games get done in this time. But since Ms has UWP, they make the games as good as they can and scale it to match scorpio. Wont take years.

IIFloodyII2654d ago

Probably don't let devs get too carried away until they have finalize the HW, no point in building for something when it can change for better or worse in a moments notice, especially so if 3rd party.

TheUndertaker852653d ago (Edited 2653d ago )

They've been letting devs build since their unveiling, even stating developers were getting games ready for when Scorpio launches.

http://gearnuke.com/develop...

I think in this instance Scorpio has a pretty set design & working. 6 TFlops was a point of reference for what is in store. I'd expect to hear more about it come E3.

BizarroUltraman2654d ago

What are you concerned about though?

Inzo2654d ago (Edited 2654d ago )

Not concerned at all, I'm just surprised that the xbox comunity isnt asking the difficult questions like why is Phil Spencer contradicting himself because last year he was quoted as saying that if they announce new games they dont want gamers to wait for its release, implying that they want to release games in the year they announce it. The other question is why are xbox1 and xbox1 s gamers forced to wait for exclusives while the Scorpio is still a year off?

rainslacker2654d ago

@inzo

MS probably would have had them waiting anyways. They don't release a lot of games throughout the year, and tend to save things for the holidays.

I don't know if anything got directly delayed due to Scorpio. Sea of Thieves and CD3 both looked a ways off anyhow.

its_JEFF2654d ago

Nah... with all the bad press and stuff they got for cancelling Scale Bound, they had to change the subject around Xbox. It's smart PR. You can't let that kind of "bad" stick around. It's a smart move, gets peoples imaginations running "Omg... I wonder how it looks. Prob's looks Amazing" "Whoa... way a head of schedule" "Great news, this far off and already have a playable build"... it's common PR tactic, everyone does, it works!

Bigpappy2654d ago

You guys are waaaay too concerned about Xbox owners. There is plenty to play and much more coming. Mass Effect is on it's way. That is what I am most interested in. Then there is Ghost. Those games alone will take up most of my year. I am still finishing the Witcher3 as I just finished off Fallout4. Still have not played Diablo3 (not paying $60).
As for Scorpio, that thing is going to sell very well if those game I mentioned and other high profile games just happen to run and look better than anywhere else. They don't need to be exclusive.

Inzo2654d ago (Edited 2654d ago )

But the argument is about exclusives isnt it, system sellers if you will and Xbox as a whole has none.

XanderZane2653d ago

Will be no different then the PS4 Pro getting their updates for older games. There are still 100's of games on PS4 that haven't been updated to run on PS4 Pro specs higher resolution or faster FPS. It takes time. Not all games will receive an update. Same thing will happen with XBox One games.

TheUndertaker852650d ago

That's the difference between Pro and Scorpio. Sony wanted to launch the Pro earlier resulting in less games available for Pro at launch. Microsoft chose to introduce Scorpio but wait the year for more software to be available.

starchild2653d ago

I'm not concerned about it because I don't have an Xbox, but I'm sure Xbox fans aren't worried about it either because they clearly like what they get on Xbox otherwise they wouldn't choose to game there.

However, if I was a console-only gamer and didn't game on PC I'd likely own both a PS4 Pro and an XB1 Scorpio just to cover all my bases.

And being completely honest, my favorite platform is always going to be the one that plays the majority of my games the best, not the one that has a few more exclusives than the other. Because, lets face it, exclusives make up only a small percentage of games released each year and the number that will appeal to any given individual are even fewer. I personally think Sony does a great job and I favor their exclusive output more than either Nintendo's or Microsoft's, but that still often amounts to only a few games each year.

For example, there were three or four Sony exclusives that appealed to me last year, while there were two or three Microsoft exclusives I liked and bought on PC. So there's a difference there for me, but in practice it isn't nearly as dramatic as it's often made out to be.

TheUndertaker852653d ago

Why concerned? It just tells people what they should already know. Scorpio will give advantages to games but developers choosing to “Scorpio Ready" their games will be able to take advantage of what the Scorpio offers.

Thanks a lot, Todd

You're welcome for the free entertainment. Usually, it comes at a cost of $70 because of inflation.

That's an inflated price...

"with no plans to retire anytime soon" I mean this is like a common news topic involving his name. Knock it off and do some actual newsing. This is like the biggest "No Duh" article of the day, and several sites had to regurgitate it. Geez. So lame.

He doesn't have to retire, just the stupid outdated garbage creation engine.

Netimmerse 4.0, presumably 5.0 for TES6. They should give the Fallout IP to Obsidian, and have it made in UE5.
