Proof in the article, wow didn't think they would allow this but I checked and it is up on the store on my Xbox!

christocolus2779d ago (Edited 2778d ago )

Yeah it's up for the price of $10.00.

Edit

Guys on the xbox one subreddit are already playing mario party and mario kart via the emulator.

sinjonezp2778d ago

Yea, emulators usually are free but with the android App Store it was paid and free versions, I think the free one had ads? But ultimately emulation it's not illegal, the illegal part is the roms, playing software you do not own. For ten bucks that emulator should run smooth with no issues.

LOL_WUT2778d ago (Edited 2778d ago )

Damn, hopefully the guys behind the WiiU emulator, CEEMU, can bring what they've been working on to the XB1 store ;)

Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

How do Nintendo allow this?

[How do Nintendo allow this?]

Well it's like this:

Microsoft made the UWP app program, and independent developers are the one's making them, just like Google Playstore.

The problem is Nintendo will most Likely send a cease & desist order to have Microsoft remove it..reason being is unlike Google's Playstore..Google does not have a dedicated game console in a market directly competing against the very companies that Microsoft's allowing these Emulation programs to be distribution on..

It is one thing to see Emulation programs being released on PC & Smartphone platforms since in a round about way, one could make the case that those platforms are not directly in the same game console market as game console's.

On the other hand the Xbox one is directly in the very same market as Nintendo game consoles are..so it most Likely will not be long before Nintendo sends it's lawyers to draft up a cease & Desist letter notifying Microsoft to remove such an emulator off the Xbox one platform on the online store, and since this is the 2nd time this has happened.. I would wager that cease & Disist is not the only thing Nintendo is having the lawyers drafting up..and if it would go to court...

Nintendo would in all likelihood win..

Because they can't do anything about it. Emulators are not illegal.

TheCommentator2777d ago

Hey Joe, I thought Nintendo was in the handheld market too. I guess phones and tablets don't count as handhelds now? Your logic is slightly skewed to think that it's oaky for one device to allow for pirated gaming but not another.

How do they keep geting by with these on xbox and why does ms allow it? Surely nintendo isnt going sit on there hands. Its showing on the store?

lxtrxi2779d ago

It's technically not illegal to host an emulator on a store though, just look at Google Play.

blackblades2778d ago

Thought it was illegal when your making profit from it.

Concertoine2778d ago

@blackblades

The best comparison is torrent clients, they are legal to own and sell but the torrents themselves are often illegal. Same thing with emulators and ROM's.

Lennoxb632779d ago

Cause Xbox is just another W10 PC.

iTechHeads2778d ago

It will be removed soon like that last one that slipped through.

Lennoxb632778d ago

You can still play the other one through the Edge browser on X1.

@Haydo

http://www.nintendolife.com...

It was approved, people downloaded the NESbox emulator, then they had to remove it and rip Xbox support out of it.

This will happen with this N64 emulator as well. MS doesn't want to be in trouble with Nintendo over this...

shiva12777d ago

You and Aenea.... Is it just MS that should take it down and why? I know u have a reason for it, just spit it out.

Is it welcomed on any other platform by you two. Why do u think MS will be in trouble?

Last i heard was Nintendo is ready for a merger or acquisition... Dont know if its true, but if true then who is in trouble?

Aenea2776d ago

@shiva

Sigh, legal troubles are still trouble, since MS is making consoles and Nintendo is too they are business rivals, you really think it would be a good idea for a company to allow emulators to be sold for a rival's console?

That is a huge shit storm MS would be getting if they wouldn't pull this emulator.

And yes, it really doesn't matter for which platform this emulator was, Sony or MS, it is a bad idea to allow it, it's also a bad idea for Nintendo to allow a PlayStation or Xbox emulator on their consoles.

And as for your silly remark about Nintendo being ready for acquisition, please, they have plenty of money, they don't need to merge.

Ohh, and BTW, people downvoted the crap out of my comment above, but lookie here:
http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

It has been pulled, big surprise!

Emulators are 100% legal. What's illegal is downloading the ROMs without buying them. That's software piracy.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2777d ago (Edited 2777d ago )

being sold for $10 would not make it legal
especially since it's on Xbox

Aenea2776d ago

And since an emulator without ROMs are useless it means people who download this will thus acquire those ROMs illegally.

That's not something MS want to be associated with, otherwise they say it's ok to do so, which means we can hack away at anything Xbox and download their games for free as well without issues.....

XanderZane2777d ago

Probably cause it's not illegal to have the emulator. It's illegal for gamers to puchase and play the ROM using the emulator though. Especially if they don't already own the game.

poppinslops2778d ago

Have you gotten any games up and running?

If it allows me to replay the N64 games I already own (most of the classics) then I wouldn't feel like a thief... that said, I'd like to know if we'll be refunded if/when the app is removed.

slate912777d ago

You just need to put the ROMs on your onedrive and it connects to it. I was playing legend of zelda. I dont feel bad downloading a 20 year old game :p

poppinslops2777d ago

Does it run okay? I've heard emulators can get a bit laggy... I saw a clip of someone playing Mario 64 and it looked okay, but it's difficult to gauge responsiveness from a video.

Either way, it's nice to know it works... I wonder if it can run games that required the N64's expansion-pack? I never managed to finish Majora's Mask and it haunts me to this day!

slate912777d ago

I was playing Ocarina and out of 5 I would say it ran at about 3.5. Not terrible, its solid, but could definitely use an update. It drops in frame rate from time to time and the pause button is glitched (you have to reselect the game in the app to get to the pause menu), but its definitely playable. Ill try new games soon enough. Really want to play wcw no mercy lol.

poppinslops2777d ago

WCW vs NWO Revenge was my jam - can't imagine how bad it must look by today's standards, but it was fun as f#@k in the 90's... anyway, cheers for the replies - I'm sold!

Was excited till I saw it's not free....

KwietStorm_BLM2778d ago

Never paid for any emulator on my computers. Never saw any emulator with a price, for that matter.

ShadowKnight2778d ago (Edited 2778d ago )

Fair enough

ecchiless2778d ago

@Kwiet

So you never hear about bleem! bleemcast! ?

spicelicka2777d ago

Not really worth it unless there's a guarantee that it will sick around. No point paying $10 if it's going to get taken down tomorrow.
