I guess I'm one of the few on here who likes it. I like the new rpg direction and as long as they don't make it too much of a requirement to do side quests to level I'll be fine with it.

Animations look a little rough around the edges. Assets are hard to judge with the quality of this video. I don't expect a visually mindblowing game considering it's cross-gen. It seems to be running on PC. The framerate is in the high-40s/mid-50 most of the time. I wonder what hardware that ran on. I think Ubisoft said they're targeting 30fps on next gen consoles too. Seems strangly demanding for a cross-gen game.

Hmm... need to see more. Video compression makes it almost impossible to see any details properly. But first impressions is basically more of the same formula as Odyssey. Disappointing. Hopefully we will get a proper look at it during the Ubisoft Forward event.

Damn this is not going to sit well if this game is priced at $70 bucks for next gen, when you already have the PC version for $50 or $60 bucks!!! It looks like the same old formula as Origins and Odyssey. They are not going to get a buy if the next gen version is just no load times smh.

So much for next-gen with this game. Screams current gen and not a great one either. Its still early but looking more like a launch game.

The way I see it, stamina is effected by heavy attacks bow hits and dodges. Light attacks fill up the gold bars which refill your stamina instantly. They got skyrim's skill tree going on too. Not bad, not great either a Lil clunky hopefully will get smoother.

I know I haven’t played an assassins creed game in a long time but damn, it is NOTHING like I remember. Reminds me of how bad Ubisoft ruined Splinter Cell over the years. Chaos Theory was the last game that felt like splinter cell. After that you started running around offices and throwing books at people.

I am now playing origins, so boring af, doing same and same stuff all over again, no passion or soul in to making this game

I am finally playing the Black Flag/Unity/Syndicate triple pack and I am having more fun than I did with Origins. The live service elements in Origins killed what would have been otherwise a superior game. But, I am a huge fan of the setting in Valhalla, so I will be picking it up. I just hope they don't live-service it, because I refuse to pay for the super-ultra edition or what is coloquially known as the "game journo edition."

Must be coming out on PS3 and 360.

I find it off putting that AC franchise is slowly becoming more of a fantasy-based RPG, than grounded stealth-action game. The game is loosing its identity, and it's harder for me each time to justify going back to it.

Once again game journos hate long games, it makes the job that they already don't know how to do that much harder. They need to be more concerned about reviewing products, obviously. And once again again, people have different tastes. There are plenty of short games out there too, play those instead of trying to change the long games that people love. Finally, the age thing is stupid, "I can't read a book longer than 25 pages, these days. The thought of putting something down and returning to it is madness."

While it can be true that ‘less is more’, I love huge open-world games like the Horizon games and the recent Assassin Creed games (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla). To each their own I say.

I think it's fitting that a pic of Valhalla accompanies this article, that was chock full of filler content that got so boring after a while. I had progressed the story to a point and required to do another questline....by the time i could continue the main story it was 20 hours later and id lost interest / almost forgotten what was happening. that was a real struggle and a great example of an open world gone too big and repetitive stuff chucked in.....i struggled through to get the plat but its put me off any more AC games - that was 130 odd hours ill never get back

whereas BG3 (i know its not open world as such) i spent roughly 350 hours on that and loved every single minute....still got to go back to do my honour run, but it just shows, if a company puts effort in to side quests etc and not just copy and paste filler content over the map it really does show.

EDIT: just saw a comment below about far cry in the same camp and have to agree this is another classic example.....started off okay but then the same old capture this base, go there, go here, get this crate....rinse and repeat - turned it off after 20 hours and deleted it - these companies chuck Far Cry or Assassins Creed on the title and release boring rubbish with copy and paste missions all across the map

If you can make your side quests & content as interesting and well crafted as Witcher 3 then its not a big issue. I'm not a fan of large open world games just due to the dedicated time sink. Witcher 3 however kept me hooked because at no moment did I feel like I was just doing a simple side quests that was simply tacked on. It all felt like it carried some kind of weight to it. Not just bring object A to point B.

Its part of the reason why I'm losing interest in modern games. Instead of increasing the QUALITY, they are instead increasing the QUANTITY, but the issue is that all they're doing is shoving more mediocre, boring slog, repetitive grindy trash down our throats.

A 10 hour masterpiece that doesn't get stale by the end has more replay value and is more worthy of my money, and more importantly worthy of my lifespan, than a 100 hour filler Ubi-junk game. I was a big Assassin's Creed fan in the past. I enjoyed the 5 game Desmond story arch, but after that the series really started to lose its way.

Throwaway plots, too many side quests that are copy & paste, combat mechanics didn't improve. Time went on, and Ubi-junk just kept piling more crap on top of the heap, trying to win gamers over by 'sheer value'. However there is no value in filler content.

By the time Origins came out, it was clear that the whole game was all filler no killer. Randomized gear chests, massive skill trees, regions locked by level gating. Copy & paste everything everywhere over a massive map that was too big for its own good. I played Odyssey (for free), it was literally the same game, except everything was expended by double or triple. Yeesh, I had enough. Never played Valhalla, and Ubi-junk would have to pay me to play their filler games.

I'll conclude with this: Give me a game that has 10 interesting and fun side quests, over a game that has 100 boring repetitive side quests.
