I haven't bought a Switch yet due to my lack of interest of most of their first party titles & a year from now next gen consoles will be releasing so I don't think I'll be buying a Switch. Hopefully their next gen console will be much more powerful & some of they're exclusive library will have AAA mature realistic looking titles that interest me including getting current AAA 3rd party love instead of AAA 3rd party ports of old titles that were released several years ago that I've played already.

Well it's a portable which is something that next gen systems won't be. Plus there's Nintendo 1st party games as well. I'm sure Switch will be fine.

How? More and more games that is how. As long as there is always something to look forward each year the nintendo switch will be fine... Although I do think it's necessary for the Ninte do to make this lifecyle 5-6 years and the give us the Switch 2 or whatever it would be named.

I have a feeling Nintendo will release a new updated Switch by the time PS5 and the next Xbox release. I would guess a more powerful CPU/GPU and now the resolution will be 1080p in handheld and docked mode. I highly doubt they will make it able to do 4k docked and I'm ok with that.

They can't. Sales will take a nosedive because everyone will move on to the next new thing, which will be the PS5 and Scarlett.

Price drops+exclusives+handheld factor that can't be replicated on Sony/Microsoft consoles. It's surprising to me how many people on here are so invested in hating on switch in comparison to those systems when it clearly is doing a completely different thing.

They have a new model coming out next year. Wouldn't be surprised if it was called New Switch like their New 3ds/2ds line.

These new next gen consoles are going to dominate the comversation for a while if the murmerings of next gen games is anything to go by. The normal peak year for Nintendo should be next year, but without something new they will loose mindshare.

They will need to make sure they can run the new features as a baseline. Asset streaming speed is going to be make or break for 3rd party support. The new system doesnt even need much of a specs boost...it just needs to be able to impliment features that come from new ssd speeds.

I think switch 2019 was switch,s best year sales wise but i don,t think it will take a massive nose dive once next gen consoles launch.

The Switch won't stay competitive. It has very few must-have games, and the hardware is way too underpowered, to the point that it's such a big deal that Call of Duty mobile might go to that platform. The online infrastructure is a joke, and the build quality of their hardware has been terrible since the Switch launched. Once people have had their fill, and/or broken their Joycons, Nintendo will have to come up with a new bag if tricks. which is what they have been relying on, ever since the Wii.

All Nintendo needs to do is just keep making great games. You don't need ray tracing or uber graphics for what they are doing.

They are clearly in their own lane separate from Sony or MS. I just picked up a Switch to play my favorite Nintendo games and am really enjoying it even though I own a Pro and X1X. I don't care about it being portable as mine stays docked. I expect Nintendo to keep doing what they have been doing which seems to be working.

They will release a pro model next fall 100 percent. Already rumors of nvidas next chip that Nintendo is going to use .but considering next gen will release streaming platforms on both sides I could see Nintendo also adding its product in that realm .Maybe they will also make a deal with MS along side Sony

It's a portable that docks which was less powerful than the base PS4 Xbox One when it released, and it has done quite well. Nintendo will be fine.

Compete? The Switch already has a ~40 million headstart on 9th gen. I think they'll be fine.

A decent online system would be good for the next Nintendo system. Sick of their archaic online features.

As soon as I saw "competitive"- ..already asking the wrong things unless we meant "what can they do to stay relevant to newer consoles coming out?" Then they could release a new console in 2021-2022(the normal 5 year gen life). Nintendo isn't competing with xbox or ps. yeaaaaars back nintendo stopped only focusing on gamers and focused more on everybody so gameplay over graphical fidelity. Which is why the wii was a huge success and why they stopped focusing on power competitions and such.

I wish nintendo would make a powerful @$$ console and amazing looking games but that probably won't happen they'll continue to do what works for them and sony and microsoft will do their thing.

I've been hoping for a higher end Switch. Maybe 1080p screen, make it OLED to save room, battery life, and to look much nicer, more performance, bigger battery, and expand the screen size in the same body so the bezels are smaller

The Switch will be just fine with players who enjoy gaming on the portable spectrum (and with die hard Nintendo fans).

I don't believe Nintendo should be worried. They are both aiming at different markets.

I've been saying this.... by releasing very weak hardware Nintendo failed to future proof there product. Ultimately it's in the exact same position as the Wii U (A next gen console that cant run next gen games.) No console can survive on exclusives alone. It's one thing to remove a few assets here and there to get a game to run ie Witcher 3. Its another to have to make an entirely different version of a game to get it to run. These developers are artists and they love new tech just as much as us and would rather not be held back by hardware limitations. Nintendo will be fine as it always is but unfortunately if you strictly game on the switch next gen you will be left behind.

That's not really competing. No one is saying "I don't need an Xbox or PS5 to replace my Xbox1/PS4 as I have my Switch".

I don't know what the next XBox has to do with this discussion. It isn't out for another year and it's already dead. I feel like the next wave of Nintendo exclusives will be good enough to compete against PS5 exclusives. The Switch is also the only option to play on a crowded train.

This Holiday will be the last big one for Switch. Next year people will be holding out for Next gen, Nextbox and PS5. Switch 2 2021 Holiday , is what needs to happen. That would be just 4.5 years after the OG Switch released. So it would be early, but only by 6 months.

When Nintendo does release the Next full gen leap Switch, they better market it better than Wii U. Also since they scraped Metroid they should release it as a launch. Hopefully the new Metroid is coming along nicely!

Part of the Switches success is the fact that it has had the best 3rd party support probably since the Super NES days. But there’s no way they’ll be able to port Ps5 or Xbox Scarlett games to the Switch no matter what. So Nintendo will have to bring a new more powerful Nintendo Switch out to stay competitive.

It's a handheld console without peer. When Sony and ms have their own portable gaming platform then Nintendo may have competition. They will also always have Link and Mario.

The Switch isnt in the same market of the PS5 and Scarlet. Their sales dont affect neither. The Switch will keep selling well now and when the PS5 launch and after years when the Scarlet X comes out.

Let me take a wild guess: They'll keep it portable, while the other consoles need a living room. They'll keep making exclusive first-party games that millions want to play.

They’re already a gen behind in power, so it’s safe to say that power isn’t what people sign up for with a Switch. I doubt sales will be affected all that much, although it will probably receive fewer multiplats aside from ports of older titles, and it won’t be the latest thing anymore. I’m sure it will continue to do well as a secondary console though, on the merits of its exclusives, as well as the handheld aspect that’s a bigger deal for some people than it is for others.

They won’t be sticking around with it for too much longer. They are a company used to having 2 consoles those days are gone however majority of big hitters have been and come for switch BOTW getting a sequel don’t think many more will, maybe an f-zero waverace excitebike etc pilotwings would be epic but once Pokemon launches, might get a remake of 4th gen next 12-18 months switch will be moving on. I give it 2 years max before you start hearing 2.0 3 years and it’ll be out don’t see them waiting much more than that. They generally do 4-6 years and haven’t stretch any home console longer only their handhelds go longer.
This is both and also their only main system, love my 3ds but it’s being retired clearly it had a great 9 years, switch won’t.. they’ll wanna keep up with Sony a year or 2 isn’t the end of the world as Nintendo showing but they won’t wanna wait years and years

I've been gaining more interest in the Switch recently. If the successor has backwards compatibility that will probably seal the deal for me.

Nintendo really trying to squeeze every last drop of sales from the Switch. One last holiday season before their big announcement.

Let's hope that every Switch successor is an OLED model going forward. And it would be nice to have more than 64 GB of on-board storage, but we likely won't see that due to them being the biggest cheapskates in the industry.
