Still

Plans, considered, what if etc

Anything with Halo on the PlayStation, even brought up, hints at Microsoft’s far future plans

Parasidious1775d ago

Matt Booty said in Eurogamer interview during E3 that Microsoft is open to bringing future Halo titles to PS consoles if Sony would want them to.

-Foxtrot1775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

That Xbox app is looking more likely in the far future

Microsoft buying those studios all of a sudden seems like it was so they can produce more games as a third party publisher imo

mafiabrett1775d ago

I would Welcome Microsoft as a huge publisher for any and all game platforms as long as they keep a hands off approach to the games the devs are producing. They have the money to do so and can help so many devs in realizing their dreams with monetary support

LegoIsAwesome1775d ago

I guess microsoft thinks that if they bring some xbox one exclusive to their competitor, the console (xbox one) might acquire some exclusives from sony and nintendo

dumahim1775d ago

@-Foxtrot

Hope not. Sony needs competition.

nibblo1775d ago

He talked about Minecraft being on Playstation an ip that has always been on Playstation - that is all.

rainslacker1775d ago

Sony wouldn't prevent it so long as ms pays for the license and keeps the release within the certification rules. If MS wants Sony to bend the rules for them, then they probably won't, because that's exceedingly rare, and they typically make rules that any dev can use in those situations.

Sony could ask, but if MS wants it released in PS, then they can go through the process of becoming a licensed publisher like everyone else.

bouzebbal1774d ago

When is gamepass coming to ps consoles??

Zeegamereh1774d ago

I read it I don’t see where he says he’s open to Brining halo to ps lmao that wouldn’t even be his choice but only the higher ups stop being silly

Hardiman1775d ago

With the way M$ is positioning Xbox I wouldn't be surprised if they don't eventually pull a Sega. I mean in a weird way Xbox was like a spiritual successor to Dreamcast so it would all come full circle.

rainslacker1775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

I wouldn't say in a weird way. Xbox is definitely a product of Sega leaving the console business, the same way PS was a direct product of Nintendo snubbing Sony. MS worked with Sega to have their place in the industry with windows CE and helped Sega design the system. They lost that when Sega dropped out, but they took a lot of what they implemented or were hoping to implement on dreamcast and made the first xbox. I think the only big difference was using directx as the core api of the system...which made sense given what DX did for PC development.

KillBill1774d ago

The entire reason Sega pulled a "Sega" was because of lack of funding to stay in the hardware part of the business vs PlayStation. Microsoft does not have that issue.

Rynxie1774d ago

Many of the people behind the Sega dreamcast actually joined Microsoft and we're involved in the making of the Xbox.

blackblades1775d ago

Probably a future plan if next hardware doesnt cut it. Probably move to that service plan app and play anywhere even on a competitor console.

xX-oldboy-Xx1775d ago

It'd sell more on PS4 than xbox - wouldn't that be funny.

Obscure_Observer1775d ago

@xX-oldboy-Xx

"It'd sell more on PS4 than xbox - wouldn't that be funny."

Yes, specially considering how Halo is hated by some "PS fans". Lol

xX-oldboy-Xx1774d ago

Obscure - It's a bet I'd take, fairly confidently too 😁

UltraNova1774d ago

Obscure,

Again with your hyperbole...no PS fan I know hates Halo.

rainslacker1773d ago

We don't hate Halo. We hate the people that act like it's the biggest thing ever, and that it's MS ace in the hole, usually with a good dose of downplaying of anything that Sony also has to offer.

I personally have no real opinion of Halo, but I recognize the technical merits it has exhibited over the years, and what it's brought to the FPS genre. Plus, it's given us Red vs. Blue, albeit indirectly, and that makes it worthwhile.

nibblo1775d ago

It also hints at a whole lot of baseless conjecture.

UnholyLight1775d ago

I honestly believe if Halo migrates to a competitor, the entire reason to own an Xbox (not considering PC) becomes irrelevant in a sense - yes there's still Forza and Gears, but THE face of your namesake is no longer an exclusive experience.

Rynxie1774d ago

If they do not plan to continue the franchise, they might as well sell it outside of their console and generate more sales for the franchise. They can't keep selling halo remakes to the same fan base. It will eventually decline in sales. People won't keep buying HD, remakes, remasters and so on of the same game forever.

Obscure_Observer1775d ago

@-Foxtrot

"We’ve had plenty of those over the years but not one line of code was even glanced at."

Translation:

Broken dreams. ;)

Profchaos1774d ago

Retrospectivly 25 years ago in sonic featuring on a non Sega console and a Nintendo console at that was a insane idea but today Sega constantly publish titles to all platforms.

Things happen and the industry grows Microsoft may be looking to exit the console space after scarlet and lean towards the cloud which would allow them to function on anything as long as the gateway service owner greenlights it.

So they could operate similar to EA access potentially

rainslacker1773d ago

Sega released Sonic CD on PC in the 486 era. I think I had a 386 at the time.

At the time, no one claimed that Sega was leaving the console race, or was it even considered. I also don't recall people claiming that Sega was going to look into going the 3rd party route. It's rather strange how it wasn't until the internet age really took off that such pontification about if a console maker was leaving or not was really discussed. Usually when it happened, it just happened, and if consoles dying was discussed, it was just because PC was seeing a surge.

Sega had also a game streaming service, and a game download service. They had subscription services. They had pretty much everything MS has now, in a much earlier and less widely available form. Yet, Sega was never claimed to be "the future" of gaming as if it was an exclusive title to bestow upon a single entity or idea.

Absonite1774d ago

Microsoft has always had open arms to everyone working together.

rainslacker1773d ago (Edited 1773d ago )

LOL. Not really. It's a "meaningful gulf" as this guy says.

I think the Halo on PS talk seemed more like MS trying to play the good guy than having any real serious intent to do so, or even look into it.

If we're talking about xCloud or Game Pass, that's probably a no-go, or it's going to be extremely limited on the selection, because Sony isn't likely to allow Xbox licensed games to run on their console, even if only through streaming or within a closed structure like Game Pass. Even if it were possible to do seemlessly locally, it's unlikely, and downloaded games aren't just a matter of throwing the game up on the console, as Sony's API's do not support directX programming calls.

That said, if MS wants to produce games and build them to the PS console, as a third party publisher, Sony wouldn't stop them. They can even do XBL logins, so long as they're done through compliance standards. Minecraft wasn't rejected because of the XBL login, but because MS wanted to control the updates, and lock them behind XBL logins, which is a big no-no when it comes to compliance standards. Even the major publishers cant feed updates or user content from their own servers....just use those logins for authentications purposes. Even with cross play, Sony isn't allowing Epic to do it. Whether that's right or not is another discussion, but that's the way it is right now.

VivaChe1775d ago

As a PS4 owner I'd buy that.

Snookies121775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

Yeah, the MCC is a fantastic collection. I just wish Halo 3 had gotten the remake love that 1-2 did on there... (I think 1 and 2 were both remakes, if I'm not mistaken. Can't quite remember.) I'm just waiting on the PC version currently. I've always enjoyed the Halo games, I just haven't owned an Xbox in so long I haven't been able to play them recently.

Rude-ro1775d ago

Combat evolved was the remake that was released last gen.
Halo 2 was upgraded the same way for the collection

Snookies121775d ago

@Rude-ro - Ah, that was it. So yeah, I just wish they'd given Halo 3 the same treatment... I think 3 might have been my favorite, though I still have such fond memories of Halo 2's multi-player with my friends back in the day. People would just leave Xbox controllers at my house all the time. I had like 9 of them piled up from those days.

CobraKai1775d ago

I thought 3 looked good. Not 2 remake good, but the bump to native 1080p made it pop.

rainslacker1773d ago

I would have too, but I brought it for the X1 when I purchased it. I thought I'd like to complete the series, because I like the lore that exists within it, and I find it an enjoyable FPS, despite my dislike of the genre overall.

But, after playing it for a while, i really couldn't get into it. Story was fine, but it never got me going. Kind of sucks, because I do like a lot of the narrative surrounding the series, and it's spin off media....and especially Red vs. Blue.

I'd recommend it to anyone who likes FPS or doesn't mind them, and wants to play a game with a good story, and it's MP is also pretty well thought of, so I can't say that it's not worth it, even though I dislike MP too.:)

The collection itself is pretty impressive though, and as a PS4 owner, I'd have no problem with it coming to PS4. I'm sure many PS gamers would enjoy it as much as MS gamers....especially since the vast majority of people don't center their lives around console preference.

flaming_scorpion1775d ago

I would definitely cop if this became a thing.

Longadog1775d ago

...not another pew pew game (a decrepit one to be exact)

no thanks

ChrisW1775d ago

You and Longadog don't want it? That's fine... Sheep like you don't deserve to play it in the first place.

Let real gamers decide if they'd want to purchase it on the PS and stay out of their business!

Born2Game831774d ago

@ChrisW hold the press. We got a REAL gamer here.

spicelicka1775d ago

All games are pew pew and stab stab if you're narrow minded enough. If you don't care to enjoy one of the greatest franchises then it's your loss and doesn't affect anyone else.

Longadog1775d ago

one of the greatest ... lol .... okaaaaay

dumahim1775d ago

Forza is pew pew or stab stab?

Snookies121775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

I can understand if you don't like the direction Halo is taking now. (I really don't like Halo 4 or 5.) But, to act like it's just a minor franchise, or "just another shooter" is very simple-minded. Regardless of what you think, it's still a massive franchise and well deserving of it. Not to mention quite unique in the way it plays that sets it apart from a lot of other shooters.

spicelicka1775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

You honestly don't know that Halo is one of the greatest franchises? Like seriously, trolling and lack of interest aside?

You're telling me a franchise with one of the most recognizable icons, such a deep lore and backstory that has books/tv shows, one of the most recognizable soundtracks, innovate gameplay that put console online multiplayer on the map and inspired dozens of FPS yet the oldest installment still manages to have a healthy multiplayer population, is not one of the greatest? Also happens to be one of the highest selling and critically acclaimed franchises. I don't think you want to go there my friend, your bias won't win you this battle.

Longadog1775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

oh please.. its just mostly you green babies that is still pushing to milk this dying cow. you act like the gaming world halts to a standstill if this franchise is shelved ..

last time i checked, those books and shows you so proudly shouted just went by with a whimper (oh you mean the critically acclaimed netflix halo? lol ) anyhow, who gets royalties when halo books and shows gets published? i wonder what company is desperately trying to keep this franchise relevant. resident evil movies has been milked to death, do you qualify that to be great as well? maybe you just have a crappy criteria on calling anything “great”. then again ms has a habit of doing that too. not surprised at all..

great? goodness how many more flops do you need.

sixthelement1775d ago

Lol another pew pew? Let me guess you love your single player super linear japanese otaku games or crappy failures like The Order? Is it because PS never could release a single pew pew game to even match this? Now you've given up on all fps' and just consider them pew pew! xD

Longadog1775d ago (Edited 1775d ago )

oh right, because halo is one of ms big three right? or should i say only three ;)

the order? scraping the barrel i see ... you must be really desperate to use that game as an example .. good try though

japanese otaku .. sure sweetheart

chiefJohn1171774d ago

Ignorance is bliss. Halo is more than a shooter btw but you wouldn't know nothing about that.

Rynxie1774d ago

What the hell are you talking about? There haven't been as much shooters this gen compared to the last. I welcome more shooters. Last gen we had resistance, killzone, mag, socom, warhawk, starhawk and so on. We also had shooters from third party developers.

spicelicka1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

Haha clearly you have more disagrees than agrees. The PC community exploded in March when MCC was announced for PC. The argument is that it's one of the greatest throughout its existence, and that is factually true no matter how much you cry "green babes" (whatever that means). You can't find multiplayer like it anywhere else.

And I own a Ps4 myself so your little jabs don't work.

Longadog1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

oh no, just look at those disagrees ... guess i should be worried now, huh? ;) you hoping those will make my statement less true, perhaps?

the worst performing team in the nba will still have its die hard fans. not because logic dictates the team has a shot at being on the top but because its the only one they have... but i'm sure, you are not that kind of a fan, right?
just calling a spade for what it really is. you can disagree all you want but bringing it anywhere else doesn't make it less decrepit as it is right now (not your books, not your lore, not your shows). surprise surprise, not all people are into that nostalgia hat of yours

"exploded", "greatest", "can't find multiplayer like it anywhere else" - ....and we just successfully ran a full circle folks. just gotta love some of these ms fans :D

"The PC community exploded in March when MCC was announced for PC" - now i need to borrow this and use it as a sig just for the lulz

Lennoxb631774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

A lot of your PS exclusives have that "pew pew" you speak of. TLOU, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, MGS (exclusive up until 5), Death Stranding, Killzone, etc.

If I wanted another shooter to play on my Pro I rather it be Killzone 2 & 3 remastered instead of a Halo collection.

GamerFrank851775d ago

Yikes. Looks like Killzone just wasnt good enough since they stopped making em...

micdagoat191775d ago

Ive never seen anybody even ask for Killzone before now

Rynxie1774d ago

Killzone is amazing. I have been asking for a remastered as well. Kz2 and 3 on the ps5? Yes, please!!

snoopgg1774d ago

Killzone 2 and 3 were great. I always liked the series better than halo. You guys negating that Killzone 2 wasn't a great game should actually play it.

Abnor_Mal1775d ago

I'm there with you. I guess that's two people asking for Killzone over Halo any day, week, month, year.

spicelicka1775d ago

Why not both? If you put your fanboy hard on aside you can have 2 nice things, common sense. Like the unnecessary need to bring killzone into this just screams insecurity. And I guess you're right...that's two people.

Ausbo1775d ago

Killzone over halo? Poor guy. You’ve gone mad

Abnor_Mal1775d ago

Hm, interesting, I thought I was responding to Elda and indirectly to micdagoat19.

@spicelicka Why not both? Because I already stated that I don't care for the look of Halo from the first game, but fifth like Gear, maybe I shouldn't have brought them into the conversation either. Yet, I was not the one to initially bring Killzone into this.
It's an article about two platforms, so what's the problem of me bring up a specific game and how I feel. Yeah talk about insecurities that people are so easily bruised that the slightest deviation from what they want to read sends them into a tizzy. I'd you hated what I said just then, maybe not what i wrote first a bit further down. Me saying I prefer one over the other some how lacks common sense? Sounds like you're the one lacking, so I guess that makes three. Fanboy warrior.

Zeegamereh1774d ago

U can’t be fkn serious 😂😂😂 theres a reason that game is dead stop being a fan boy

Elda1773d ago

Yes I 'm completely serious. Again if I had to play a series of shooters remastered I rather play KZ 2 & 3 instead of that tired BS Halo. KZ 2&3 were great games Halo looks boring & uninteresting to me. To each their own.

Turned based Phantasy Star and Shinning Force remain at the top of my list of Sega IPs that need to return. At the very least I'd take a Shining Force collection that has 1,2,3, CD and the Game Gear entries.

FinalBoss6d ago

I was hesitant to put these two on. I've personally played more PSO than the RPG version. And shame on me, I don't remember much about Shining Force to talk about it properly.

That said, so many Sega licences deserve their place in this list.

jznrpg4d ago

A new Phantasy Star in the numbered series would be amazing. Shining Force too. But I’d settle on some collections as that’s probably the best we will get

anast6d ago

I don't trust Sega to do a proper comeback. The games will be just remastered and/or monetized to death.

gold_drake5d ago
