UberGizmo - Intel SSD 520 Series Review

UberGizmo - Intel has just announced its Intel SSD 520 Series based on a 25nm manufacturing process, and this new series targets the high-end enthusiast market. As it stands, this is the absolute best that Intel has to offer in the non-Enterprise space. We had the opportunity to take test one for a ride, so we put it thought its paces with a few synthetic benchmarks like HD Tune Pro and PCMark Vantage. The former is a pure synthetic test, while the latter tries to mimic real-world use. This SSD also brings a few new features in terms

Intel SSD 520 Series Solid State Drive Review (BmR)

BenchmarkReviews.com: For the past several years, consumers searching through the available selection of Solid State Drive (SSD) storage devices have noticed that capacity continues to favor the hard disk drive counterpart. While it could be a few more years before any SSD matches terabyte capacity with the HDD, Intel's NAND Flash produced at 20nm is closing that gap in terms of price and storage space. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the Intel SSD 520 Series Solid State Drive against the leading competition to see if it's capable of delivering SATA 6GB/s speeds up to 550 MB/s and 80,000 maximum 4K random write IOPS.

I personally don't give DAMN about faster SSD. They're only more expensive! I want higher capacity for cheap. Seriously, a 1TB of old M25-x series SSD should be at a reasonable price!

I know what you mean... I need something more than this crappy 100GB SSD I have, and with the way prices are, I don't think I'm going to see a reasonable upgrade any time soon.

Chris, while I understand how you feel. SSD is still for performance hungry power users like myself. We like our information to be read and written as fast as possible. We want our games to take advantage of this as much as possible.

SSD are making headway and will be the mainstream norm in time. I only own a 250 gig for OS/Games. Everything else is 10,000 rpm, 600 gig, 6.0/s VelociRaptor.

I also have personal cloud and external HD's. The take down of megaupload or torrent sites will not affect me since I have been archiving for some time and I am careful not to distribute. :)

I have two SSDs. An Intel 80Gb for my OS and an Intel 160Gb for my games. I love the boot-up time and game loading times.

I also only have a SATA2 capable motherboard so anything above 3Gb/s transfer isn't necessary for me. Aside from that, I seriously believe that one or two hundred megabytes for read/write per second is minute in comparison.
