So what's so special about Android Anyway?

Lans from TecStories writes: I've always wondered what's the secret sauce that makes android stand out from its many competitors?

When the Android first debuted on the HTC Dream back in October 2008 it was deemed the Iphone killer, The Holy Grail of Mobile operating systems . While it didn't quite slay Apple's handset, it was the first step taken to challenge the dominamt iPhone OS. Back then i was mostly disinterested in Android as it only seemed to be a passing linux fad, it seems i was wrong and Android is growing from strength to strength, i decided to do some research and find out what exactly is the appeal of Android.

the fact that its open. <looks at every other platform>
the fact that it doesnt crash/freeze/restart when it feels like it <symbian im looking at you>
and it has flash supported browsers <iphone, im looking at you>

im sure other people got other reasons but these are the big ones for me buying a droid over any other. HTC DESIRE Z FTW!!
