Gigaom - Cook is Apple’s chief operating officer. He joined the company in 1998, after a brief stint as Compaq’s VP of corporate materials. Before that, he was COO of Intelligent Electronic’s computer resale division, and spent more than a decade at IBM as the director of North American fulfillment. Cook was originally brought on as Apple’s senior VP for worldwide operations, and was promoted to COO in 2007.
