I can't understand what they were thinking with this card. They have to pay for 16 GB of HBM2, an excessive amount of the most expensive RAM around. Cut that to 8-12 GB and make it GDDR5 or 6. Then it can sell for a more competitive price, and hopefully turn a profit. No one is going to choose this over a 2080 if the price is the same. AMD needs to compete on value until they can really up the ante on core performance.

Right- I hope they get their act together with the refresh...

Also, what happened with Navi?

Amd really messed up with Vega, still haven’t recovered.

Amd fans are already trying to justify their upcoming purchase of the radeon vii, according to them the hardware is expensive to produce so it is justified.

Amd should just sell gpus and put 128gb hbm2 amd fans will gladly buy it because 128gb is expensive to produce so the price will be justified.

Gamingunited the 2080 is the same price in many places now.

On its own the Vega 7 is a good card, and the HBM is amazing, but its value takes a hit with that price and the competition offing a slightly better GPU for the same price, that has features for better graphics, or even greater performance in select games.

Get rid of HBM memory for DDR6...there problem solved

Watsyerproblem11927d ago

It's not like that wouldn't require a complete redesign or anything like that...

AMD used their 7nm Vega design because it was already there. Making an all-new design for the Radeon VII would be more expensive than making a few more 7nm Vega chips.
