I did that too, because we got a new modem. But after reading more* I think most of us may be screwed unless we go buy new routers. My trusty old Linksys was made before such intrusions were even imagined, and the average home user probably thinks about routers even less than I do.

Edit: Getting to the end of that piece, I'm glad to see my router is not on the unhappy list. They warn that it's not a complete list, though. I don't know. I grow increasingly convinced that security is an illusion anyway.
