YouTube to Acquire Videogame-Streaming Service Twitch for $1 Billion: Sources

Google’s YouTube has reached a deal to buy Twitch, a popular videogame-streaming company, for more than $1 billion, according to sources familiar with the pact.

the twitch logo looks great with the techspy colour palette xD

OT: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

1 billion? ONLY? nah...can't be serious, right? They see Oculus getting 2 and then Whatsapp getting 19. Ain't nobody got time for just 1!!

This is the worst thing that could ever happen. YouTube is already so crappy even since they started throttling videos to save on bandwidth and their copyright protection is nonsense.

Blame Google, youtube used to be awesome.

adorie3622d ago

The blame isn't totally Google, it's copyright bullSt.Lawyers, lobbyists and many more people who do nothing for free money based on "copy right infringement"

This will completely destroy Twitch.

-30fps cap
-Content ID
-Paranoid censorship, blocking random videos and harassing uploaders without any evidence of wrong doing, because some troll thought it would be funny to report ownership when there is none. Then flat refusal to actually verify it.
-Busted comment system that half the time won't let you post at all, the other half not being able to tell the difference between spam and legit comments. Troll spam reports instantly hiding posts, again without any moderation/verification, and no way to reverse it.

Youtube sucks bad.

mafiahajeri3623d ago

that google id crap sounds like the worse!! And yes the content ownership is going to be really bad.

mcgrottys3622d ago

Well they get the twitch streaming tech with the buyout so I'm sure they won't waste that. I am afraid of the comment system being changed though.

I really hope this is just a rumor.

Soldierone3623d ago

The only thing that sucks is that it will then push Twitch under the same umbrella as Youtube. What that means is all the useless copyright companies will target Twitch now too.

Streaming games is actually good advertising and the video game industry is the only one that see's that. However movies, music, artists, etc... don't get that money so they copyright everything possible to try and get a quick buck. You have TV networks buying out Youtube channels just so they can be "exclusive providers" of content and sue everyone else.... look at Vevo.

Remember Youtube was great until big companies started stepping in to ruin it like usual.
