Origin PC Now Dealing Exclusively with Nvidia Graphics, Claims AMD GPUs are Problematic

Maximum PC: Well now, here's an interesting development. We received a note from Kevin Wasielewski, co-founder and CEO of boutique system builder Origin PC, alerting us that his company is no longer offering customers an option to configure rigs with AMD graphics cards. All traces of AMD brand GPUs are being removed from the website, and from here on out, Origin PC is dealing exclusively with Nvidia for graphics. This isn't a marketing ploy, but a decision that was made for a number of reasons.

What a load of Rubbish how much did Nvidia pay you for that statement.

Revvin3855d ago

I don't know why ATI get such a bad press over drivers, nvidia released a set not so long ago that caused cards to overheat and in some cases kill the card. Sounds like someone visited Origin with a big suitcase of money

cyborg473855d ago

I got my graphics card killed the same way, but it was a beta driver, so its kinda my fault too :(

hahaha
riiiiight...so sony and Msoft went with AMD so the failure rate of consoles will be high causing people to buy more consoles hence increasing their revenue. LOL

ChrisW3855d ago

However, it won't be so bad with Sony and MS... Their consoles will have proprietary drivers and they will be funding their own driver patch releases to insure that their consoles won't brick.

KingPin3855d ago

lol after typing that comment, did you read it again and think it made sense?

the whole point of choosing AMD was because they have bang for buck value. AMD could actually make a powerful unit at a lower cost. the drivers are made in partnership with AMD, you know, the guys who know just exactly what the hardware they created is capable of. all the drivers you get in firmware updates will be created by AMD and handed to Sony/msoft. you think AMD just created the hardware and told sony/msoft "there you go. now deal with it. this is not our problem anymore" mentality?

ChrisW3854d ago

First and foremost, "proprietary" means that both MS and Sony will individually own the rights for the drivers that are released for their systems.

--Does this make sense?

Which in turn means that they will be directly employing people (whom obviously include staff from AMD, duh!) to create drivers for their GPUs.

--And there as well?

Reasons for this relates to the fact that consoles' GPUs and PC GPUs will not be able to use the same exact drivers. Other than obvious mechanics, there are patients and other legalities that keep them from being so conveniently easy... Even with AMD being in partnership and utilizing the same source code to [help] create the drivers.

--Okay?

origin pcs have always been insanely overpriced just like dell alienware crap. Nobody but idiots buy them.

jeffgoldwin3855d ago

All pre-built pc's around the same price. You gotta build your own to really save big money and get the best parts.

SnakeCQC3854d ago

I bought an acer predator as my first "gaming pc" and regretted it. It wasnt that expensive but it was terrible internal temps were ver high(70-80 degrees) it didnt include a damn windows cd and so many different issues

jeffgoldwin3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

70-80 F (maybe u mean C? idk) degrees is like room temperature. That's not hot at all, lol.

Sorry hear you bought a lemon. If you have any pc building questions, pm me. Im pretty good with them now. I buy most all of my parts at newegg.com or microcenter.

It all depends on where you are willing to compromise. I won't deny that with enough research and careful shopping you can build a decent machine with quality parts for $500-700.

But it also cannot be denied that if you want to build a good mid to mid-high end "gaming" rig with quality components you'll be in the $1500+ range. The key here is quality components.

A high quality gaming motherboard that supports at least two video cards may cost you $250+; you can figure another $300 for the processor, at least $200 in RAM and $200+ for an 80+ Gold power supply with enough wattage and rails to power everything. Without a case, hard drives and video card choice were already at $950+. These are all very ballpark, but the good adage always applies "you get what you pay for".
