ComputerWorld: Microsoft's bet that touch would propel Windows 8 has run into a major snag, an industry analyst said Friday: Consumers see little reason to pay premium prices for touch-enabled laptops. According to IDC, touch-ready laptop shipments are significantly lower than optimistic forecasts by computer makers such as Acer, whose president, Jim Wong, said in May that by the end of the year 30% to 35% of his company's notebooks would sport touchscreens.
The cloud storage platform will drop support for older versions of Windows in early 2022.
Microsoft responded with Windows 8 and its Surface RT tablet.
In the earliest days of the Surface, it was hard to shake the notion that the line was something of a reference design for Windows 8.
it appears people don't want touch on laptops
to be honest its a very lame idea and it doesnt flow in a fluid motion with the keyboard and mouse.
maybe on the surface if they make it cheaper would it catch on. I kinda think windows 8 should have just been windows mobile and stuck to phones and tablets. and left the desktop environment alone. on the other hand it gives windows the touch access that it needs. have you ever used windows mobile 5 or 6... its a big upgrade.
See what happens when Microsoft tries to out-Apple Apple?
Epic failure. They thought Apple was going to merge OS X and iOS. Wrong.
