Microsoft Doesn’t Want To Admit Windows RT Is Dead

Techcrunch- Microsoft is in a tough spot. Windows RT is all but dead in the water. But Microsoft has approximately a zillion and a half Surface RT tablets collecting dust in warehouses. And so Ballmer and Co. continued its ignorant fight against Apple and the far more successful iPad with another TV spot that pits the two against each other.

Microsoft are acting like children.

well in all seriousness the microsoft surface is the superior product, the problem is it has such a low install base that developers dont wnat to build anything for it.. and therefore no one wants to buy it lol.

Im not sure how they are acting like children though. They are a buisness trying to sell a full inventory of products. Would they be more adult if they took a massive loss by not trying to sell the products and giving up. Somehow i doubt microsoft or apple or anyone got anywhere by just giving up.

They have marketed this wrong though. People don't buy tablets to work on. They buy tablets for a more portable laptop. The needed to show the fun side of it. Also the installing the keypad looked more hassle than it needed to.

The haven't really shown why the UI is better than the ipad one (in their opinion). The reason why a lot of people get ios is because the IOS is so dumped down any idiot can use it. They didn't show any of that.

If they want the surface to survive they really need to compete in all aspects. They need to show why tiles make sense and how easy it is to customise instead of these comparisons.

The word you're looking for is intuitive. It's the ease of picking up something that you have literally no knowledge of how to use and being able to use its features immediately without any sort of help or manual. This is my biggest argument against Metro. It is not immediately intuitive like iOS. I have had similar experience with specific versions of Android (this differs from device to device).

Back on topic. The Surface Pro is a superior product. All of the systems running Surface RT are worse than a glorified netbook performance-wise. Besides, like iamnsuperman mentioned, I'm going to use a tablet like an iPad or Nexus as an instant information / instant gratification device. It is something I can quickly pickup and use for a few minutes to get done what I need (check my email, look up some information in google or wikipedia, play a quick game, etc.). It's all the same things I have with a smartphone, just on a bigger screen.

If I want a fully functional PC OS, I'll have it on an Ultrabook (these are better by the way) or a desktop. Yes Ultrabooks are expensive, but you are getting performance with portability - that's the entire point of an Ultrabook. Tablets should be kept simple and dumbed down and follow the KISS philosophy (Keep It Simple Stupid) to assure ease of use and low cost.

yea ... microsoft office is great and all, but on a desktop. No one wants to be typing an essay on a tablet touch screen for 1000 hours. They tried to appeal to buisness and school people. Function is great, tools are great, but not when the tools are easier and better on a laptop or desktop.
