AMD, Nvidia Push Out New Graphics Drivers Primed for Far Cry 3

Maximum PC: The wait is over, Far Cry 3 is here and available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and of course our favorite gaming platform, the PC. To kick things off on a high note, both AMD and Nvidia have released new GPU drivers -- AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta and Nvidia GeForce 310.70 -- that promise to deliver big performance gains in Far Cry 3 (by as much as 38 percent in some cases), as well as a few other titles.

AMD has been putting out nothing but betas since October. Bring on a full stable release already.

Far Cry 3: the new Crysis (in terms of benchmarks)

RyuX194323d ago

Really? But I guess when you mean in terms of benchmarks you're not talking about graphically.

Klonopin4323d ago

He meant to say Far Cry 3 will be used as a point of referance for GPU benchmarks, of course he was referring to the graphics.

RyuX194322d ago

But the graphics aren't that impressive.

3GenGames4322d ago

Maybe your GPU isn't good enough then?

RyuX194322d ago

I can run everything very well, but the graphics don't look impressive like the graphics seen in the Crysis games. I'm not saying it's a bad game or that the graphics are bad, but Crysis is way better than this, especially 2, and 3 looks even better graphically.

Far Cry 3 has a plastic like look to me. It doesn't look photo-real and the weather effects are pretty bad. It doesn't even have volumetric clouds, they are static.

Again, not saying it's a bad game because I do like the game a lot, but the graphics are not that impressive.

I agree it looks amazing. But my computer can run it with a steady frame-rate on ultra with everything maxed except vsync x2, and my computer is showing its age as it is. A lot of games i need to turn down to medium/high to even get a playable frame-rate.

Far Cry 3 looks mind-blowing, and i agree it looks better than Crysis on my machine - but im also well aware that people with super beast PCs can play Crysis at crazy resolutions on ultra with ridiculous mods that i could never think of running for another 10 years xD

So i dont agree. Crysis is definitely a better benching tool than this. Really good game. Gonna buy it soon :) (I torrented it to play the first half hour or so but i uninstalled. I dont support piracy)

"I torrented it to play the first half hour or so but i uninstalled. I dont support piracy"

That's like saying that you stole a piece of bread, had a lil' bite, and decided it to throw it away because you don't support theft!

Just kidding, we both know the piracy of software and the theft of actual goods is a different thing.

Just giving you a hard time plus I haven't slept in a day :p

Amplitude4322d ago

haha i knew id get called out for that xD

Dont worry man i download torrents like demos. When a game doesn't have a demo i get cautious cause like, why didnt they make a demo? haha

Same with games that hide their metacritic score on the steam page actually xD

Speed-Racer4322d ago (Edited 4322d ago )

Qrphe - Surprisingly enough, I torrent some of my software to try it out before buying. For instance, it's hard to shell out a couple hundred bucks on say web software for instance that you ultimately won't know if you like or hate it till you use it. As for games, I sometimes torrent just to make sure my specs are up to par. The reality is that buying the game has a lot of benefits attached, but I sample to make sure my money's well spent.

Audiggity4322d ago

I like that approach. It reminds me of the good ole' days, there was this crazy concept of releasing demos prior to the release of games :)

Speed-Racer4322d ago

Woah, woah, get that devil talk outta here.

On a real though, I bought a number of games because of demos. Quake, Monster Truck Madness, Age of Empires, and so on. Ah well.
