China may build an undersea train to America

China's state-run Beijing Times claims the nation is already in discussions to build an 8,000+ mile railroad connecting China, Russia, Canada, and the U.S.—including a 125 mile undersea tunnel spanning the Bering Strait. Forget taking this with a grain of salt, you're gonna need the whole shaker.

Well, Alaska is known for earthquakes. I'm not sure how safe I'd feel being in an undersea tunnel that crosses any faultlines

brave27heart4055d ago

In other news Russia is building a ladder to the moon, Britain is planning on building 30 foot high concrete walls around the coast to keep out immigrants and America is planning to rebuild their economy.

hazelamy4055d ago

you almost had me believing, until that last one. ^_^

windblowsagain4054d ago

lmao.

Of course it's not possible.

And it would not be safe.

OhReginald4055d ago (Edited 4055d ago )

not gonna happen. They talk about doing stuff like this decades ago. And nobody ends up doing anything.

Ninjamonkey824055d ago

I know it won't happen but i could see the tunnel being visible through eastern Siberia and cross the Bering Strait that's only 125 miles off rail line underwater before connecting with Alaska.

The Euro tunnel though no fault lines in site :) runs 50.5km under water and will take around two and a half hours to go threw.

China Have a long history off building structures that withstand earthquakes tbh. So though this is up in the air this idea i would not put it past them either. Just can't see it at the expanse shown in the diagram.

So that I can get up close and personal with Leviathan, my bete-noir?

PHUQ. THAT.

nirwanda4055d ago

Sounds like a great setting for a cheesey new Jaws film, glass train tunnel running under the sea.

Trunkz4055d ago

If the label says Made in China, do you risk your life entering? ;)

nirwanda4055d ago

The dangerous work of the blow up doll safety tester.

nirwanda4055d ago

Seriously though Russia would never get rail link to the states with politics as they are over Ukraine at the moment.

So that they can invade murica easily.. s/

Cueil4054d ago

lolz... China is the US's only threat

Soldierone4055d ago

So much needs to be put into this to even make it possible though. It's not just the distance, its the environment. The Ocean will constantly be trying to destroy it, fish will hit it, boats could hit it, etc.... Then the air pressure will constantly need to be under control.

One thing goes wrong and you have hundreds of people drowning in the middle of an ocean.

Would it be cool? Yeah, it'd be so sweet to be traveling under water and to just see that view. Will it happen? I don't think in this regard, maybe closer to the surface

TwistedMetal4055d ago

Not gonna happen. Would be to easy to use it as a nuclear weapon transporter. you can bet terrorist would be all up in it. I dont doubt china could do it though. Just look at the great wall of china they have a history of making huge long structures. This type of stuff will only happen when the world becomes more united as one. The only way that will happen if the bigger countrys like u.s , china, russia, etc gobble up all thos smaller and weaker countrys and continents under there flag and then the bigger countrys slowly join into one.

calis4054d ago

Leave it to China to fuck up the environment even more.
