Scientists one step closer to HIV vaccine

Vyralize: Scientists have made a break through discovery by figuring out how the body’s immune system makes a powerful antibody that blocks HIV infection of cells by targeting a site on the virus called V1V2. They believe that if a relevant vaccine could elicit potent antibodies to a target a specific site of the V1V2 region that remains stable throughout the virus’s mutation, then the vaccine could protect people from getting HIV.

Herpes next

And then an efficient, effective way of citing and removing cancer. The world needs more lasers!

sjaakiejj4119d ago (Edited 4119d ago )

Considering that Herpes is nothing but inconvenient for those that have it, I doubt it's a priority when compared with diseases like HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis.

I've never really understood the fear people have for the disease, considering it's practically harmless. I suppose like Diamond Rings, marketing is the main reason for people's misguided beliefs.

This is amazing. Hopefully we can see a cure in our lifetimes

Until the virus forms a resistance.

adorie4124d ago

Right, and don't viruses evolve more rapidly than other organisms?

"They believe that if a relevant vaccine could elicit potent antibodies to a target a specific site of the V1V2 region that remains stable throughout the virus’s mutation"

ZoyosJD4124d ago

Well, the efficiency of these studies is only ~60% for the first year(and near nothing shortly after), so there certainly are mutations, but this is a marked improvement.

bub164124d ago

there's already a cure, big pharma make to much money from it at the moment, why would they give people a one time solution and lose all that money?

FlameBaitGod4124d ago

Don't know y you got disagrees. Cancer is on the same boat, if people did some research you wouldn't of gotten those disagrees.

Speed-Racer4124d ago

You can't vaccinate against cancer. Cancer cells are essentially good cells that mutate into something they shouldn't be, causing the body to slowly malfunction. Cancer in the liver is completely different from cancer in the breast or brain. Unless you plan to create thousands of vaccines just to protect yourself (which would do more harm than good), the only way is to develop a more effective method of treatment to cure it. It's one that cannot be stopped unlike HIV or other viruses.

adorie4123d ago

Cancer is a different beast. Cancer is basically good cells that live after they're supposed to die, but instead they continue living and mutate into what is known as cancerous cells.

FROM WHAT I KNOW: In order to combat cancer, we must find a way to prevent it in the first place, but at the same time, we already know what fuels cancer, killing it while it's in full swing is what is giving people a tough time at finding a cure for it.

As you've said above, tho... there is a possibility that a cure exists and is being kept from the public.

Nes_Daze4124d ago

haven't heard about that but makes sense..interesting.

DuB4124d ago

Work on the hurp, when you're done ;)

ironmonkey4124d ago

gizmig4124d ago

Good cause for human being.

FRAKISTAN4124d ago
