WTF! Can't believe they admit the pastor stole from them yet the server still gets fired. Never eating there again!

Speed-Racer4481d ago

Applebee's was never that good anyway. Head on over to Olive Garden.

Mounce4481d ago

I'm sure if that Pastor went to KFC, she'd demand free buckets of chicken because god granted us chickens to feast on for free so why should she pay for some kentuckeh fried chickens?

adorie4481d ago

Screw'em both, Racer. Nothing like a home cooked meal.
When I cook, I damn well research and stick to authenticity as much as possible.

Err, on topic: AppleBees food tastes like salted cardboard. Even The Outback has fallen in quality over the years and portions.

Speed-Racer4481d ago

@Mounce - LOLOL. She sounds like a total cheapskate to me. I like how use uses her religious beliefs to try to bend the rules in her favour.

@adorie - yea I am disappointed with what Outback serves these days, and yup! can't beat a good home cooked meal.

SilentNegotiator4481d ago

A stupid excuse to stiff a waitress (although mandatory tipping is kind of an unfair way of doing things - it's no longer a tip if it's mandatory).

An angry girl posting a bill online against her contract.

A straight forward case of 2 people just being spiteful and self-destructive. It's not really substantial news other than people wanting it to use an excuse to hate on Applebee's and/or religion.
YAWN.

Did you read the article. the pastor said they put 6$ in the tip jar, but was upset that the employee still complaining they didnt get a tip. so the pastor is right. besides the automatic tipping is ridiculous. No one forces anyone to be a waitress, if they dont like it then they can try to get a different job or accept that the job comes with risks of not always being tipped well. Also why should someone be forced to tip a certain percent when there is no guaranteeing of good service. kind of a double standard dont you think

Dasteru4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

First off learn to read before posting, The pastor DID pay the tip. She just wrote the message also. The 0 on the reciept was for an additional tip beyond the mandatory 18%.

Second even if it wasn't payed, it wouldn't be theft.

tips are meant to reward good service, not to pay the wages of employees that are being screwed over by their employers.

If the tip isn't included in the listed price for the ordered item in the menu, then it is fraud to automatically tac it on after the fact.

Not only is Applebee's policy of mandatory tipping illegal but it also completely goes against the intended purpose of tipping and is ignorant and self rightous.

Bad service = 0 tip. to hell with restaurant policy.

Unztayble4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

glad that companies reached out to her for work after this happened. And I'm happy that the pastor apologized for what happened. Everything works out in the end. Except for maybe Applebee's. They suck!

mushroomwig4481d ago

'Everything works out in the end'

Er...except for the fired waitress.

Lord_Sloth4481d ago

If he's a true man of god, why does he only give god 10%?

kremit-214481d ago

read the bible. 10% is all God asks for

Soldierone4481d ago

Doesn't mean thats all you give.... If someone starving, barely able to survive, only asks for ten cents but you have 500 dollars, are you really only going to give the person 10 cents?

Lord_Sloth4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

It is all he asks for. I'm also sure he doesn't appreciate being used as an excuse to be cheap. A waitress at an Applebee's doesn't make much at all. Most of her take home is from tips so this chick's essentially using god as an excuse to save a dollar or 2.

If the woman smiled and was courteous, fine. Give her a tip. Is she was rude, THEN deny the tip. Don't hide behind something being taken out of context.

SilentNegotiator4481d ago

And Christ praised higher percents. The poor person gave all they had, the rich gave away a morsel of their riches and did it in a showy way; Christ praised the poor person for being generous and the rich for being too self-serving in the way that they donated.

But it is true that the bible states 10%.

......I can't believe a discussion of a waitress getting stiffed and posting a bill to Reddit has turned into a scholarly Biblical conversation.

coolbeans4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

Malachi 3:8-10 (KJV) - Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

If you correctly dive into all The Bible has to say on the issue, it declares tithing as the bare minimum for Christians. If you recognize all of God's property bestowed upon you as His, giving back 10% isn't asked, but expected.

Offerings are beyond 10% and can be seen as one of many indicators of a Christian's joy for what God has done for them, and will further trust Him to provide what's necessary. This is where God is simply asking believers to give more, in any shape or form.

@Sloth

I think the pastor just gave the "10%" mention b/c tithing is understood by everyone, not b/c that's ALL she's giving. I think it was just phrased in that way to express her general annoyance of why today's social mores for tipping demand more than what God asks for.

Jedimaster14481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

10% was giving to Israel as a tax. Since it was a theocracy, the 10% went to the state. It is not transferable to today, although many pastures will think it does.

You are supposed to give from the heart as SilentNegotiator indicated. In other words there will be times when you give less than 10% and more depending on the season of your life.

I dislike how everyone easily quantifies the amount one should give because of 10% required in Israel before Jesus walked on this earth.

By the way, 18% gratuity stems from serving a large group. I guess when servers are earning $2.50 per hour they don't need to be compensated for serving a large groups when they could be earning more serving other tables. Glad to see coolbeans feels that giving your server is not service to God. I guess when Jesus said whatever you do to the least of these you did for him isn't applicable here. So much for being good Samaritans (remember that parable?).

coolbeans4480d ago (Edited 4480d ago )

My only intent was to rephrase what she had stated, not subversively cry out against tipping. It was a foolish way to end, compared to what's stated above it.

coolbeans4480d ago

I think it's fair to make a full apology to that portion of my first comment. I'm very sorry how untactful that statement was made and wish I could edit that portion out.

I don't agree with this notion of Tips being added as a standard charge. Tips should be earned by good, friendly service. It shouldn't be the customers job to pay the shortfall in a waiter/waitresses wage due to cheap employers.

Guitardr854481d ago

Guys we honestly need the whole story...I heard this on NPR yesterday morning on the way to work...

The reason the girl got fired is because she breached a non-disclosure agreement that she DID sign when she started working at Applebees.

Plus the customer actually DID pay an 18% gratuity (which was factored into the finial price, it was when the receipt asked for an ADDITIONAL gratuity that she wrote what she wrote.

The customer paid the tip and the waitress went crazy and posted it everywhere violating her agreement with her employer...THAT'S why she was fired.

Parapraxis4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

No, they didn't pay the 18 % gratuity.
The waitress was wrong for not censoring the name though.

dirthurts4481d ago

The tip WAS paid. Can't you even read a receipt?
The 18% was in the total.
What' you're looking at is "additional tip". As in additional.
Get it?
The tip was paid.
She broke a contract posting it, she should have been fired. It's not fair to the customers.

Parapraxis4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

whatever, don't know the full story.

Th3 Chr0nic4481d ago

It says "ADDITIONAL TIP" not "tip" the 18% is calculated into the final bill and not an option to pay for the customer. which is totally wrong considering they are guaranteeing a 18% tip for service that may or may not even be good or even average at best. and you dont have to know the whole story as these are just plain facts if you have good reading comprehension.

Soldierone4481d ago

What picture shows the name? I went directly to the Reddit post where it "originated" and the name is not "clearly visible." Its cut off at the bottom, unless it has changed?

The pastor should feel guilty. A person thats there to teach respect and to treat others nicely, and not only do you write an insulting message, but you go make sure the person gets fired for showing it? If it was meant as a joke or no harm, then why not let it be?

It's why I don't believe in religion. I don't need the threat of sin or god to make me do good things. I believe in good karma and simply being nice to others. I always come across church people that are total jerks, then they turn around and "tell god about their sins" and its all okay. No, don't do it in the first place.

Speed-Racer4481d ago

it was taken down later on. Reddit's policy bans the exposure of personal information, which should explain the truncated image. However I can confirm that I saw the original image some days ago and it was exposed.

mykrlz1824481d ago

I want to know how the hell did 10 people eat for $34.93!!LOL

Speed-Racer4481d ago

My best guess is that they each asked for separate bills, but of course the 18% would still be applied to each.

SnakeCQC4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

lol lets keep it real they dont give 10% they receive that from other people and it doesn't go to god it goes to his pocket and the church

2pacalypsenow4481d ago (Edited 4481d ago )

In my religion the 10% goes to building Churches/Temples and our welfare program

dirthurts4481d ago

Same here. My church invests heavily in the homeless/less fortunate.

SilentNegotiator4480d ago

And as another additive to go against the "churches stealing and doing nothing" farce, the church I used to attend had annual blood drives, constantly ran food drives, etc and having done a little bit of volunteer work, there didn't seem to be any preachy strings attached.

Don't attend church anymore, but can't stand the tropes and stereotypes against "the" church.

SnakeCQC4480d ago

shouldn't your government provide an adequate welfare plan? how does many into building more churches/temples help people? if anyone is offended im sincerely asking and apologize if you are offended. In Islam those able to are asked to give 2.5% of there annual income to a charity of their choice. Isn't money flowing to many different causes better?

2pacalypsenow4480d ago

Building churches and temples helps grow the church and they also have a huge welfare program

-For first comment:

And? Did you expect them to have a second job? Most have ardently studied texts for years in school in order to teach others on religious beliefs and act as that person to actively serve the community.

-For second comment:

"shouldn't your government provide an adequate welfare plan?"

Expecting any sort of monolithic structure, be it state or federal, to provide "adequate" welfare is silly compared to localized groups which already actively search out for those in dire need. There's also larger churches able to stretch their funds to help third-world countries in multiple ways.

"how does many into building more churches/temples help people?"

That comes down to the singular accomplishments of what the people attending it have experienced. The story of God breaking one's addiction or something else. Since the population is growing, it's only natural to expect more churches to be built in order to hold everyone interested in joining. There's also bunches of studies on the positive effect churches have on the community.

"Isn't money flowing to many different causes better?"

...which the church is able to better accomplish by actively seeking those in distress in the community.

SnakeCQC4480d ago

can you honestly say it works? most of these pastors and priest seem to focus most of their effort demonising those different to them or those who like video games

darkziosj4481d ago

ohh religion you so funny stealing money from people since forever.

madjedi4480d ago (Edited 4480d ago )

Right and this person is supposed to teach humility and respect for others or good moral behavior.

I hate hypocrites, they are only sorry when they are exposed in front of the world, otherwise they are all "good citizens".

Work eight or ten hrs a day at a real job, involving physical labor, then see if that comment is still funny to you.

I still love george carlins views on money and the church. Some churches do help the community and some have pastors driving around in $100,000 cars or embezzling the churches money.

Stereotypes exist for a reason because certain people prove the stereotypes accurate.
