Yes it is true. People are actually making that much money by just YouTube only.
Youtube is an established entertainment platform nowadays, just as in film, TV or music the bigger the personality the more money they end up making.
Money is there if you're committed. Uploading roughly 4 review vids out of interest I've made roughly $200 with 180k views between them. But it's not easy as it sounds, getting a few hundred views in itself is difficult if your video sucks and is pointless, video editing also takes time and some learning.
You also get weird and sick hate mail, because of jealousy or simply because people can't stand to see others making an effort. The biggest plus to getting involved is being invited by the corporate world to help with marketing, it gets you places or gives you access to things relate to your interests.
@s45gr32 You don't have to put your face on camera. You can make songs, animations, play games, make montages, whatever. You just need to be creative. It's as simple and complicated as that.
