No Man's Sky Refund Article 431.2 (.2 to show that it is updated with new refund information.)

No Man's Hype: 12/10
No Man's Hate: 22/10

Number_92796d ago

People don't like being screwed. Who would have thunk it?

PizzaSteve2796d ago

Millions get screwed by COD every year and still buy it.

sullynathan2796d ago

No one gets screwed by cod every year. You buy what you wanted and Activision showed cod fans what they wanted. It seems you people can't get that through your skull.

AgentSmithPS42796d ago

They're lining up already to be BF'd by dice/ea's BF1 ;), people forget the major issues BF3, BF4, etc have had for a long time after release until they finally patch it all up.

subtenko2796d ago

How did they get screwed other than the exceptional cases of the game crashing or not working (mostly PC players although reports say the patched fixed 99% of that)

Nitrowolf22796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

You guys are confusing recycled elements, main cod buyers know what they are buying, to a new IP that was stated to have features that it doeant.

Cod and bf present themselves for what they are at every reveal trailer.

Crashes aside, because that could happen with any game, how exactly is a yearlyrics cod buyer getting screwed for buying cod?

nX2796d ago

^I actually felt more screwed by CoD Advanced Warfare, Modern Warfare 3 or Ghosts than about No Man's Sky. Also Battlefront, Watch Dogs or Assasin's Creed Unity felt like less value for my money and those games were all made by 100-500 developers.

NMS is not a bad game per se, it's just missing some vital features that would make it enjoyable for longer than 10 hours. They could easily patch in some kind of quest system or faction wars that would turn the whole thing around.

MagicBeanz2795d ago

People have been screwed not only by devs but by whole companies like Microsoft repeatedly and there has been nothing like the smear campaign that we've seen leveled at this game and this developer, for some reason No Mans Sky has been placed under a microscope while others get a pass.

No Man Lie can be added into the list.

Give it afew months and discount and will find out what's what.

Lon3wolf2796d ago

To counter all the BS being spread about refunds given after 30+ hrs of play time.

2795d ago
MasterCornholio2796d ago

"Valve, perhaps in response to a high volume of refund requests, now appear to have reversed that leniency. Technical issues, missing features, and misleading advertising (the Steam page itself still features a trailer containing things not in the game) have all been cited by dissatisfied players as reasons for requesting their money back."

People should be really careful when buying this game. It's easy to pass 2 hours with it without noticing.

Brave_Losers_Unite2796d ago

Yeah I have easily passed 2 hours in games by falling asleep at the desk.

Hoffmann2796d ago

People should be careful with just every game at launch these days.

Artemidorus2796d ago

Yeah could start by being honest, it works really well for customers.

MasterCornholio2796d ago

What I mean is that in 2 hours you barely do anything in this game. So it's easy to lose track of time with it.

It's a good thing we have this article because there are many people who believe there's unlimited time for refunds with this title.

freshslicepizza2796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

@Hoffmann
"People should be careful with just every game at launch these days."

especailly games where they don't ship any reviewable copies before the release date and pleads to the public not to watch any early video showing up on youtube. this just goes to show how this game is quite high in refunds, which some people still are a bit in denial about.

Duoma2796d ago

I would say I'm surprised people still haven't learned since this gaming generation but im not. We're talking about some of the most fickle scatterbrained short attention short memory types.

i havent even played the game and i was 1000 percent sure i would never purchase the game in my entire life. you dont need to play it for one hour, or 50 if you have common sense.

it annoys me when people use the argument that you cant know something about a product or experience unless you have tried it yourself. whereas i know you will get hurt if you jump off a cliff with no parachute. some things are just obvious.

this game doesnt require you to play it to know it sucks. its obvious

Clown_Syndr0me2796d ago

I've said this for months and got so much hate and down votes. Now look, I was right.

deafdani2796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

Except it doesn't suck. It's no masterpiece, either, and I can definitely see why there was such a shitstorm because of the lies - the developers had it coming - but the game itself is good, if you like exploring and grinding.

I like exploring and grinding, and because of that, I've had a lot of fun with the game so far. It helps that I never paid attention to the hype, as well.

Your statement is still somewhat accurate, if you change the last sentence to something like:

"This game doesn't require you to play it to know if it's for you or not".

Because, seriously, you only need to read a few reviews, ranging from good to bad, and watch some let's plays - it's pretty easy on the PS4, using Live from Playstation - to find out whether this game will be your cup of tea or not. As it is, it's obviously a highly divisive product. People either seem to love it or hate it, with very little wiggle room for a middle point here. I'm in the love camp.

rainslacker2796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

I think one can potentially make a good judgement on if they'll like a game based on what they see before buying. Prudence is never a bad thing when spending money on something, either a game or anything else we spend money on.

At the same time though, one can't really go on to say, "that game sucks" with any real 1st hand knowledge to be able to express why it sucks without actually playing it....and nowadays, that tends to be the more common motif in all these forums about the quality of a particular game.

And the more recent advent of where people are told what they should hate about a game before it's even released, or soon after it's released, becoming the thing that people latch onto to say why the game sucks, even though copious numbers of other people will say that it doesn't. I mean, NMS certainly has things beyond the lack of a MP feature which it can be critiqued on which could be much more meaningful for the end player than all the general comments of "it sucks", but you wouldn't actually be able to express in detail what you feel sucks about it, or make it relate for the end user as a whole.

I dunno, it's as if people can't accept that people have different tastes or something.

To me, NMS doesn't suck. It has it's flaws, but generally, I'm enjoying it. Won't consider it the best game I ever played, and can cite some criticisms I have for it, but I formed those critiques based on actual 1st hand experience. At best, you can only say it sucks based on spurious analytical analysis with absolutely no 1st hand experience to say how all those things which turned you off actually turn out in the overall game play experience.....thus....making your opinion of the game completely invalid beyond your own preference of if it's something that appeals to you.

Funny how that works huh?

LordMaim2796d ago

No it doesnt. No it isn't.
@Clown_Syndr0me: No you weren't.

Valkron12795d ago

My question to Steam is why are they still showing the trailer that is no way like the real game

1nsomniac2796d ago

I guarantee there will be a class action lawsuit against Hello Games for this. I've seen far more for far less.

The fact they are still using the fake trailers to sell the game is extremely worrying though as it shows a genuine acceptance of it. Which is very dangerous to all of us no matter how you feel about the game.

zivtheawesome2796d ago

and ubisoft's downgrades are okay right because they are a big company huh?

Tobsesan2796d ago

Well, they dont look as promised. But this game has almost nothing they promised.

zivtheawesome2796d ago

I disagree the game has almost all feature that were said to be. multiplayer does not fit for this type of game. the only missing feature i am dissapointed about really is the factions war and it is also pretty useless. i knew that this is what to expect from this game so i was satifsied

1nsomniac2796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

@zivtheawesome I was against Ubisoft & their downgrades too & was very vocal about them, still am to this day. I always will be the same way that I'm very vocal about Gearbox & have stuck by never buying their products again. I will do the same with Hello Games & anything by Shahid Kamal Ahmad also.

The level of misinformation spread by Sean Murray in order to falsely sell his product to unwitting consumers is at Randy Pitchford levels & that's unacceptable. He should be held accountable for it just like all the others.

The fact you're so openly disagreeing despite all the factual evidence just shows your blind ignorance i'm afraid.

2796d ago
its_JEFF2796d ago

Sadly there probably will be a class action lawsuit. This small studio will probably be shut down and put out of business and they will be out of work. The witch hunt is real, people won't stop. I don't believe for 1 second that Sean Murray and his team set out to lie and mislead consumers. More likely the reality is they set out to create their original vision but slowly realized that they neither had the means or the man power to accomplish all that they set out to do, but by then the hype was out of control and they couldn't take a set backwards.

I image that this could lead to major publishers pulling back on taking risk on studios and games, that aren't proven... it'll certainly lead to dev's being a lot more careful about what they say or promise to deliver.

Dirtnapstor2796d ago (Edited 2796d ago )

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the game had to be sliced and diced to make the delayed released date. It's not horrendous by any means. Great concept that got stunted. Like many, I'm stuck with a disc. If this had been a $20 price point, attitudes would be different. I can only hope Hello is frantically working to patch and put back everything that made this game look so appealing prior to its release.

Pintheshadows2796d ago

I really think it should have been £29.99.

It is currently £46.99 in my local GAME. That is ridiculous.

ocelot072796d ago

@Pintheshadows even though this should be £30 or less title. GAME are known to overcharge for new and used games. For example take FIFA a yearly released title. Game seem to think it's ok to charge £50 for FIFA 17 when the likes of Tesco, Grainger games sell it for £40.

I remember about 5 years ago. Around when FIFA 12 was about to release. Supermarkets like Tesco and Asda was selling FIFA 12 for £35 new. GAME was selling it for £50 and one of the higher ups at GAME complained to the media that supermarkets should not be able to sell them that cheap as it will put them out of business. In fact GAME did almost go out of business.

SoulMikeY2796d ago

While I agree the game didn't quite deliver, you sound ridiculous.

Learn how the law works before you speak. And maybe re-watch the trailer. In the eyes of the the law, if you can stretch something to be true, it's true.

"Is there multiplayer?" Absolutely, multiple players share the same universe.

"Can you run into other players?" Of course, you can't see them, but you can be in the same place, same time. And on their planet with them.

Law-gic.

Servbot412795d ago

I don't know what world you live in where "run into another person" can also mean "occupy the same space but not be able to see or meet a person," but it's not the real world.

SoulMikeY2795d ago (Edited 2795d ago )

Servbot41, I don't believe that, I'm saying that's how lawyers will deflect you. You clearly have never done a serious jury duty...

Don't be a douche, read before commenting please. You people just want to attack something.

Also, it IS a video game, not the real world. lol. Smh, some people's kids...

Hoffmann2796d ago

Haha, all these people that buy a game at launch and later complain.

Be like Hoffmann, be smart, don't buy games at launch anymore

MasterCornholio2796d ago

Or at least wait until the reviews are out. Some games are worth buying at launch. However many times games are not worth their launch price.

Hoffmann2796d ago

Some games are worth to buy at launch indeed, but they seem to become a rare occassion now between all these buggy experiences,..or in the case of NMS, a lesser experience than expected

thorstein2796d ago

I have bought about a dozen games based solely on the hate they received. Some are among the best games I played this generation.

And the reviewers/ journos were all notorious for doing exactly what they are doing with NMS.

I am loving NMS by the way, I even have the platinum.

rainslacker2796d ago

Reviews even aren't always a good indicator on if a game is worth it.

One thing you can count on though is that the internet won't let a bad game go unpunished....unless it's on one's preferred console....so the problem is discerning the BS concern reviews against those who have actually played it, and in some cases, with exclusives, finding the middle ground which is likely where the truth resides.

Seems like a lot of work to actually know if a game is good or not.....which is why I tend to just by the games that look like I'd enjoy them. Often day one, sometimes later. It's rare I'm actually disappointed in a game I buy day one, because those tend to be the games I would actually like, and I do keep up with them more so know what more to expect from them.

Even things like QB, which ended up disappointing for me, wasn't on a level of disappointment that made me regret buying it day one. Just something I realized I could have waited to play, but no real harm done other than maybe spending a bit more. Will support the game though, because it's good enough.

Psychotica2796d ago

Or learn you have two hours to play and get a refund in that time

2796d ago
Duke192796d ago

lol @ all the downvotes. I completely agree with you. Its the risk of being an early adopter...

Im not saying what the developer did was right (misleading information - but damn a bunch of these people should wait for reviews/the game to be complete BEFORE buying it)

MatrixxGT2796d ago

It's not like it was 15 years ago where you walked into a store a stared at awesome box art thinking this game is going to be awesome only to buy it, put it in your system and realize it's a puzzle game.

Those were the days of getting burned, today though with YouTube, twitch, thousands of news site fetching for any straw of information about a new game you should be able to tell if a game is going to be for you or not. At least have an idea if your going to hold off or preorder.

NMS screamed "wait and see" for me since it was announced.

An Update on This Year’s BlizzCon and Blizzard’s 2024 Live Events

Blizzard writes: "After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years."

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers16h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken3h ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle11h ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.
