In one word - No.
Google + is quite good especially if you're an author - it's starting to grow with populairty and YouTube commenting can only be done with a Google + account now I think. Facebook has lost a lot of under 25's from the UK as they have gone elsewhere. Facebook is the largest but alternatives are starting to be noticed and in the future Facebook will be the next MySpace imo.

The sates inside of europe would be considered a nation-state such as germany, france, and ireland. Although 'region' would probably be more accurate.
