You're totally right about this. For a majority of consumers, all they see is contrast and the higher it is, the better. With many people growing up on Instagram, I don't see this getting any better.

The Amazon certainly has the head start in terms of it being out and ready for purchase. The Xperia Agent does however have some nifty features that the Echo lacks.
Agreed. I really hope other tech companies like Sony decide to take a stand with Apple on this issue.
Keep in mind, one of the great things about 4K sets is their ability to up convert HD footage to 4K. Your milage varies from the source material but many of the great 4K footages shown off at CES were unconverted 1080p content from Blu-ray and it looked quite fantastic.
Looks like the same is true for Sonos speakers.
