From what Mark Cerny explained at a developer conference, the PS4 has a very simple architecture and OS. He convinced Sony to spend a little extra money on GDDR5 RAM, which allowed for them to not use ESRAM on the chip die.
Microsoft has had problems with a lot of Xbox One chips being dead on arrival thanks to the placement of ESRAM on the same die as the CPU and GPU. The added complexity has pushed back production about two months.

This things sucks. Do yourself a favor and get a Dell XPS 13 instead. Amazing battery life, way more powerful and it has the ports I need to get real work done.
