My father in law is kinda int he same boat as you. He's looking to buy himself a retirement gift in the form of a new TV but right now the options are staggering. Given that little is available in 4K, does he bite the bullet and get 4K with the hope that more content is available in that format?

No they aren't. I used to work for a company that makes the software and hardware to monitor these devices. I used to set up lines on Blackberry and apple devices all the bloody time. My buddy works for a large telco here and his whole purpose in life is to aid Law Enforcement Agencies set up surveillance lines. They can trace your location right down to withing about 20 meters of where you're standing if they so desire.
As a handset manufacturer, I would say they have little to no hope to be completely and brutally honest unless MAYBE they overhauled the OS again or started putting Android on their units.
BB10 sucks.
I hate it and the people who like QWERTY and were on BB10 on brand new phones asked to go back to their old curves and Bolds within a month. It's just not intuitive enough for some of the older school people.

I like what you say here but here in Canada, the ISPs are now monitoring things to a certain degree and the content providers (Broadcasters like Viacom, Sho, HBO etc etc) will advise your provider that you're being naughty and that you must cease and desist.
