Is it Firefox that's slow, or is it Firefox with addons that's slow? I get the feeling that some of the more important addons that practically everyone installs are not keeping pace with Firefox in terms of speed, even though they've put in plenty of improvements to their own stability.

Now if only they'd add something which would let us easily record Skype calls (say, for making podcasts) in the base free Skype package.

Which begs the question, if people know how to protect their privacy, what is it that's leading them to not do it? Once you've eliminated "lack of knowledge and/or technical competence" from the list, it's a very confusing minefield that hasn't been thoroughly researched to date. Which is why I'm working on it for a post-graduate thesis. ;)

I'd be interested to know what IE's browser share would be if you only looked at home users, and didn't include the masses of corporate computers who are often stuck with IE due to either management inertia, or (sadly a lot more common than many people realise) a stack of proprietary applications that are only compatible with IE6, and are essential for the operation of the business.

Rather than stats on how many parents friend their kids, I'd be more interested in the stats of how many parents use that to try and keep tabs on what their children do (and how many of those children skilfully use privacy settings so they can't). I wouldn't be all that surprised if many parents who friend there kids do so from the kids setting up a Facebook account for them (in a vain attempt to get them to use technology), or to give their kids more access to their own networks ...

Honestly, I'm surprised the numbers aren't significantly higher. Though, I guess that might be a function of the way they've phrased it. A lot of people are aware of the privacy settings, but don't use them. IIRC, academic research from only a year or two back (if that) was saying something like 80% or more people don't use the privacy settings of Facebook and similar sites at all, even after being educated (and given step by step instructions) on what to do.
