Steam’s New Top Seller Is A PlayStation Game, And That’s A Big Deal

The new top-seller on Steam is a PlayStation game, and that's a big deal.

Game-ur1390d ago

Maybe Steam can do a quid pro quo and release some of their exclusives on PS

Tekken666341390d ago

the witcher and cyberpunk are already landing on consoles. all that leaves is star citizen which is a bit complicated.
you need to be a paying member to join it's community. it's a MMO.

RazzerRedux1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

Steam is just a store. It doesn't "release" games. It just sells them.

As far as exclusives, there are multitudes of games made for PC that just wouldn't translate over to consoles very well and I don't expect they will. Hearts of Iron, for example. Can't even imagine playing that with a game pad. Or games as complex as Mount and Blade, but lack the polish that console gamers expect. Other games like House of the Dying Sun could probably come over, but just don't for whatever reason.

@Tekken66634

"all that leaves is star citizen which is a bit complicated. you need to be a paying member to join it's community. it's a MMO."

No, you can pay $45 one time and never pay another dime.

Cmv381389d ago

Mount and blade 2 if not mistaken, is getting a console release.

RazzerRedux1389d ago

@Cmv38

Ah....you are right. It will be interesting to see what kind of reception it gets.

Marquinho1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

Actually, Sony should start releasing more games on PC after this. There's money on it and they probably need it more than ever.

I feel relieved I only played like 30 mins of this game on PS4 Pro. Been told it's the best PS4 exclusive if you give it a real chance. I'll see that soon.

xTonyMontana1389d ago

Why do Sony need it exactly? I'd love to see Dreams come to PC though, my Rift S is ready!

Cmv381389d ago

Sony is doing this simply to open up the audience. Pc gamers who don't own a ps4, may be more inclined to get a ps5 to buy... you guessed it, hzd 2.

Marquinho1389d ago

Because of profit. This is a business and the PC gaming community right now is huge, and spends a lot of money in games... a lot of money in everything. Sony's most likely to go at loss on PS5 sales, so this would be a great way to have a bigger return.

RazzerRedux1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

"they probably need it more than ever"

lol....thick on the hyperbole.

"Been told it's the best PS4 exclusive if you give it a real chance. "

It is one of the best games this generation regardless of platform and yet not in the top three exclusives on PS4, imo.

Marquinho1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

Comes down to taste and other factors. I don't really believe in media reviews not backed up by user reviews (that aren't being bombed) and mine of course.

I.E. I'd say the best game of the generation is The Witcher 3 (curiously, a game where user and media reviews agree), followed by God of War and a tie between Sekiro and Bloodborne. I'm not expecting Horizon to top any of those but being a Top 10 would be above my expectations. I'm probably a bit picky on games... I buy a lot that don't end up finishing.

Jaces1388d ago

It's a smart play on their part to release these games on PC, opens up more people to the game and brings in more money. Waiting 2 years is a good period to wait before release on PC to ensure their console sales don't suffer. Even for the smaller exclusives like Death Stranding a year is a good period for those. I plan on re-buying Horizon just to play it on PC and enjoy it even more, excited to play 60+ frames.

Marquinho1388d ago

@Jaces

FYI Death Stranding will release next week on PC. That will make only 7 months after PS4 release. Hopefully, it makes a trend.

Not even remotely planing to buy it though.

Sunny123451389d ago

Lol. Pc doesn't have the level of exclusives that ps needs. Ps exclusives trump all.

Kekewei1389d ago

Half life: Alyx on PSVR2... hooray!

East76lands1388d ago

The new half life game on PSVR would be nice as I'm supposedly getting a pair for my birthday.

itsmebryan1388d ago

I guess you never used stream. It's just a PC online storefront. Valve has made very few games. So , quid pro quo makes no sense. It's up to the game Developers what platform their game goes to.

But, this means more " PS exclusives" are going to come to PC. Because Sony just like every other corporation are about making money. They can care less about fanboy talking points. MS understood this and put games on PC. Now Sony is copying. Except if you have Ultimate game pass you don't even have to pay extra to play on both platform. Sony will make you pay for each platform.

RazzerRedux1388d ago (Edited 1388d ago )

"But, this means more " PS exclusives" are going to come to PC."

Possibly, but that isn't certain at all. The PlayStation console ecosystem is more of a focus for Sony than the Xbox console ecosystem is for Microsoft. Sony has already stated that they are committed to true PS exclusives.

"Except if you have Ultimate game pass you don't even have to pay extra to play on both platform. Sony will make you pay for each platform."

That only applies to Microsoft's own store which very few on PC want to have anything to do with thus, Steam versions of the games. If you want to buy the Steam version of a MS game then they will "make you pay" for that. You don't get it free regardless of what subscription you have. Same obviously applies to Steam version of HZD.

Reefskye1388d ago (Edited 1388d ago )

You mean like portal half life? Which are alrdy on console. Cos there only steam exclusives, a Dev making a game for pc and releasing on steam doesnt make it an exclusive.

Example Total War

leahcim1388d ago

please name some Pc exclusives...

"Steam’s New Top Seller Is A PlayStation Game, And That’s A Big Deal"
i was kinda expecting it to. it's a new game for the platform.

DerfDerf1389d ago

3 of the top 5 best selling games on Steam are from xbox and Playstation. Pretty wild to see that.

#1-Halo MCC
#3-Sea of Thieves
#5-Horizon Zero Dawn

Neo1111388d ago

Finally available on the most efficient platform with the most beautiful graphics and the best control hardware. A little long wait, but only now, on the PC, I can play the best version :-)

MajorLazer1388d ago

Shame you won't be able to play Horizon 2 for another 5-6 years 🤣

itsmebryan1388d ago

@Major
You may not either. They don't have a solid release date and it would not be the first time Sony missed a early launch day. 😂

antarius1388d ago

It may look a bit nicer and play a bit smoother but it’s still the same game most of us enjoyed 3 years ago. Your not getting anything special.

notachance1388d ago

pc, most efficient?
my dude I'm a pc gamer but try getting the same graphic on pc with similar spec as a console, it's nigh impossible

Funny how 1 PlayStation game that goes to steam, people just make an article about it, being a top seller. There's been numerous other games that have been only on console and were released on steam and no one makes articles about them being on the Top Seller list lol.

RazzerRedux1389d ago

Actually they do.

Gears 5 tops Steam sales chart at launch
https://www.windowscentral....

Gears Tactics already the top-selling game on Steam
https://www.windowscentral....

Kavorklestein1389d ago

Don't forget Halo: MCC had articles about it as well

stuna11388d ago

People see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear.

DerfDerf1389d ago

Sea of thieves basically lives at the top of the list. They have made numerous articles about Sea of Thieves. Halo MCC, Gears 5 and Gears tactics.

Nanas1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

Nice to see that Japanese devs are releasing stuff on PC more these days too. Persona 3 and Ys 7 when?

Glemt1389d ago

It's a Dutch developer : ) Sony (Japanese) published it though.

TheHateTheyGive1389d ago

When 99% of pc games are garbage they embrace a true masterpiece.

Vegamyster1389d ago

99% of the games on PC are available on consoles lol.

Kingthrash3601389d ago

So then pc only contributes garbage, while costing tons for an up to date pc

Vegamyster1389d ago

Kingthrash360

No it just means both of you don't know what you're talking about.

RazzerRedux1389d ago

lol..bullshit.

Over 8,000 games on Steam in 2019.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/st...

Less than 5,000 on PS4.
https://store.playstation.c...

You don't know what you are talking about.

Vegamyster1389d ago

RazzerRedux

I said consoles in other words all of them, not just one and you clearly missed my point. The vast majority of great or popular games aside from 1st party games from Sony/Nintendo are on PC, so saying 99% of games are garbage on PC means the same for consoles given how close their library's are as a whole.

I love it but HZD is no Masterpiece. Last of us is a masterpiece, Witcher 3 is masterpiece. HZD is close.

PCpower1388d ago

When console players get angry that their precious "exclusive" is coming to PC, they say things like: "When 99% of pc games are garbage they embrace a true masterpiece". Cry more little baby. I love them console fanboy tears.🤣🤣ԍ 15; Sony will make more profits on PC now that they saw how well this game sold. 😂😂😂 28514;

DF Weekly: Do we actually need The Last of Us Part 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn remasters?

With the details we now have in terms of features and pricing, I don't think there are any significant concerns remaining - just that perhaps that the term 'remastered' in the title is a little misplaced. Essentially, what we're dealing with here is broadly equivalent to a release along the lines of Death Stranding: Director's Cut. It's the original game with a dash of extra content and additional visual modes that tap into the power of PlayStation 5.

Bloodborne, Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, Puppeteer, Jak and Daxter etc are all better choices

Even a full on remake of Drakes Fortune I’d take

PrinceOfAnger146d ago

killzone 2/3 definitely a better choice, i have recently finished the games on pc and thought about that, a full remake like demon souls is even better

darthv72146d ago

2&3 are still fine... I'd take the first one as a full remake before the others. They could flesh out more of the backstory that the sequels touch on. Even go deeper into the lore of Helgan.

specialguest146d ago

KZ 2/3 would be amazing. KZ 2 was a graphical masterpiece back then. With today's modern tech, all of those tricks Guerilla Games did to create the effects like the lighting, storm effects, etc, they could now be done in real-time and more realistic

Cacabunga145d ago

Killzone 2-3
Golden Abyss remake
Infamous 2

RaidenBlack146d ago

Uncharted 1 still got a decent remaster for 8th gen ... a remake is not that much of a requirement ...
instead remake candidates should be from 5th or 6th gen
and as for proper remasters (not just lazy res upscale): Killzone 2 & 3 obviously and also Resistance/inFamous (as well as MGS4 :P)

-Foxtrot146d ago

My point with the list is that I’d rather see those titles than what we are getting…titles which are only 3-5 years old and still hold up today

CrashMania146d ago

Sony own the Demons Souls and Bloodborne IP, I wish they'd do something with Bloodborne at the very least.

vfl523146d ago

The way you worded that makes me think you don't realize they already remade demon souls

146d ago
GamingSinceForever146d ago

Not one of those will sell more copies than TLOU2 Remaster. The sooner we realize that these gaming sites and their followers are less than 1% of the buying public the better off we’ll be.

Sure we prefer newer titles but this is business and a business is what Sony is running.

JackBNimble145d ago

Don't you think they could be doing something better with their time and money, like maybe making something new? Or have they become lazy and just reliving the past with the same old games over and over.

Gez ... do something fresh and new already .

notachance146d ago

I'd rather for them to go Square Enix route and remake/remaster their PS1 libraries instead of these unnecessary remaster

come on, legend of dragoon..

Gamingsince1981146d ago

What's with the "need" anyway ? This is video games, no one needs them at all, we need water , we need air, we don't need games.

Barlos145d ago

I would love a remake/remaster of KZ1. For its time it really pushed the PS2 hard and because of that it had a few issues. This is begging to be given the Bluepoint touch and brought up to date. I'd love to see an updated Killzone trilogy collection for sure.

Yi-Long145d ago

Sony killed the game and the studio behind it, but a Remaster of the excellent Driveclub would absolutely be my favorite release if it happened. Just a delicious racing game.

FinalFantasyFanatic145d ago (Edited 145d ago )

So many better choices, I can't fathom why reasonably recent games are getting picked over Classics that are more deserving.

Nope. But HD remasters are an easy cash grab that the masses shovel cash for because while they complain about remakes, they still buy them

Not if they release on a platform that never received the original in the first place like PC.

46player145d ago

No complaint here, I want the updated graphics.

Ra3030146d ago

My thoughts on this is do we need Richard Leadbetter's or Digital Foundry's opinion on anything........ever? I know I don't they do nothing for me and never have.

BehindTheRows145d ago

By that same token, some may not NEED remasters, while others may/do.

Amplitude146d ago (Edited 146d ago )

DF videos are typically absolutely amazing game reviews first and foremost. They have great intros, explain the mechanics well, tell you if they enjoyed it or not (I usually vibe well with John's games personally), and then they have the best tech breakdowns of a game's performance which is very very important to me. I want to know what settings to run at on PC, and on PS5 I wanna know if the 60fps mode runs well or not because if it doesn't... well I'll just get it on PC (If it isn't completely broken there too). DF Retro is also always unbelievably interesting and super well edited and inspired my YouTube channel which just crossed 1200 subs (wooo!). They helped me a lot with understanding game development and got me interested in goofing around with game engines and PC building in general back in the day.

I don't mean any offence by this but you sound like somebody who skims their analysis videos, selectively scrolls to the stats, says "who cares?", and then closes it. Or possibly somebody who watches (stolen) cut clips on TikTok? Even if you are somehow unaffected by blurry images and fluctuating frame rates (some people are and I envy you) I recommend watching a full DF episode one day. They're extremely interesting and I watch literally all of them even if I have no interest in the game.

Joris de Man on composing music for the Horizon series

In the video game industry, where visual design and game mechanics typically grab the limelight, the significance of music in enhancing the overall gaming experience is often underestimated. Music can be a key component in the player’s emotional connection with a game. It amplifies emotional impact, heightens tension, and can be a powerful driver of narrative. We’ve had the chance to speak to Joris de Man, a renowned Dutch composer best known for his work on the Killzone series, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and its sequel Horizon: Forbidden West. During the Game Access conference in Brno, we talked about the process of composing music for video games and how he created the harmonies that have shaped some of our most beloved gaming experiences.

Sonic1881312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

To keep using him as the music composer in their games.

Joris seems like a great guy. I spoke to him briefly once about how much I loved his music and he was really friendly/humble.

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim351d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC351d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)
