Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered PS4 Review - PlayStation Universe

From PSU: "You’ve got to wonder – who among us actually wanted only the single-player campaign from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to be remastered and then subsequently released for a chunk of change? It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense from a consumer point of view really, not least because arguably the lightning rod of Modern Warfare 2’s appeal has always been its stellar, and some might say timeless, suite of online multiplayer modes."

BigBosss1484d ago

It would have split the player base between COD MW and this

PS4Gamer19841484d ago

And so? There are what, like 50 million people that play MW? So 25 million for each, it's all still Activision and Activision would make money no matter what.

spicelicka1484d ago

Not necessarily. COD 4 remastered was released WITH Infinite warfare, both with multiplayer. Unless that actually affected Infinite warfare's population and they learned a lesson.

Profchaos1484d ago

But no one liked infinite warfare because its content itself was not great the future scene had been done to death and this was the 3rd of 4th futuristic cod in a row as a result it didn't sell as well they also released the multiplayer as free to play in an effort to gather interest in the game but nothing worked.

So if anything was to blame with the split player population it's that infinite warfare sucked

porkChop1484d ago

That was a bit different. Infinite Warfare was hated from the second it was announced. The game as a whole is one of the weakest points of the franchise.

Activision saw that coming and tried to make up for it by tying MW Remastered to the IW special editions. It wasn't released standalone until much later.

morganfell1484d ago

I bought it. Glad I did. And it is exactly what I expected. No regrets here. $20 for a great campaign with the most iconic character in the Modern Warfare Series. If I want MP I will go to MW. Not pay another $10 for the MP on this game, play a few matches then go back to MW. Now give me the MW3 campaign remastered.

annoyedgamer1484d ago

So? I refuse to buy the new games. I would however buy a remastered MW2.

PS4Gamer19841484d ago

This whole thing is just weird and so random, it just feels rushed and like a quick cash grab or something.

AnubisG1484d ago

Yeah, they pushed it out in time before peoples money runs out and no one will buy video games.

Stay-Toasty1484d ago

At first i was kind of baffled too at this decision. It would DEFINITELY split the playerbase. Plus its only 20 bucks and I wouldnt mind playing through the MW2 campaign again. With activistion, i expected it to be atleast 29.99. But 19.99 isnt bad at all.

MrVux0001484d ago

20$ is not bad, but neither is it good considering it's less than 5 hours of a singleplayer campaing most of us played many years ago.

frostypants1484d ago (Edited 1484d ago )

$20 for a 13 year old game (remastered or not) with a huge chunk of content...arguably its core content depending on who you ask...stripped out? No, that's a garbage deal by most evaluations, and I think the reviews will bare this out.

oasdada1484d ago

So where are you guys when nintendo is pumping out remaster after remaster on their consoles and no 1 is complaining then? I think 20 for a remake is a pretty good deal and if u havw a problem then just dont buy it.. it wouldnt have existed anyways

InUrFoxHole1484d ago

Let's not forget 30 day exclusivity

EmperorDalek1484d ago

It's a third of the price of a brand new full release, for what is the weakest third of a more than 10 year old game. It's a ripoff.

If they were concerned about the playerbase, they could have released the whole game in two months. At least you'd have a slightly staggered release schedule between entries that way. As it stands, releasing the game a third at a time will severely lower the impact a full MW2 remaster should have had.

myfathersbastard1484d ago

29.99 here in Canada. Too much for something I’ve already played many times over in the past. But for those who want more cod, all the power to ya. It is a great campaign

Active Quest Episode 63: What Will Gaming in 2020 Look Like After The Last of Us 2 Delay?

Joseph, Josh, and Chris discuss the crazy cancellation of The Last of Us 2 and what 2020 holds for our controllers, and they give their impressions on Resident Evil 3 and Modern Warfare 2 Remastered!

carcarias1479d ago (Edited 1479d ago )

Why are people using words like cancellation now? And acting like it won't be released this year? It was bad enough with 'delayed indefinitely'. Stop the pointless, childish drama.

It hasn't been delayed 'indefinitely', it'll 'definitely' be released once people can go out to the shops to buy it in order to maximise profits and that's gonna be sometime this year. So gaming in 2020 doesn't look any different than it did before, ffs.

They literally said they want everyone to be able to play it at the same time.

lockedongamer11479d ago

Movies have been delayed to 2021 because of the coronavirus, and the releases throughout the year seem uncertain. The Last of Us Part 2 could slip to next year.

carcarias1479d ago (Edited 1479d ago )

I think movie sets are a whole other ballgame. Game devs, like CDPR, can work from home far more easily.

Besides, they already said they were delaying 'because they want everyone to play at the same time and that there's a problem with logistics'. That doesn't sound like production problems on their end, like with the movies etc,. If they had staff issues it'd have been easier to say that, imho.

To me, 'everyone playing at the same time' means they want people to be able to buy it in the shops, not just digital. The 'logistics' is that because of the global disruptions, the hard copies may not have all shipped due to delays in the supply network.

I'd be gobsmacked if it didn't release this year but I'm not fussed as I may wait until we know for sure whether there's a PC version or not, what with all the rumours ;)

TFJWM1479d ago

While I agree that they are never going to cancel it since it is so close to being done I don't agree that it is delayed for "once people can go out to the shops to buy it in order to maximise profits". They were in the middle of working insane hours in their office during crunch time. All they needed was one person to get sick and they pretty much all would. Now that they are all working from home I would think finishing the game off is just taking some more time.

carcarias1479d ago (Edited 1479d ago )

Nothing unreasonable about what you said at all but I'd just point out that, in their own words, they said the delay 'was so that as many people as possible could play it at the same time'. They also mentioned logistics. I didn't pull the hard-copies in the shops thing out of thin air ;)

So I don't think staff issues are the problem. If the game can't be finished in time, then they wouldn't be worried about having everyone experience it together because there wouldn't be game to play, heh.

I personally think distribution of hard copies and the shops being shutdown are the culprits. They could still release digitally but that would mean some don't get to play and a decrease in day 1 sales.

Anyway, my gripe isn't with ND, it's websites scaremongering and acting like the game won't release this year :s

porkChop1479d ago

Dude. It literally is delayed indefinitely. Indefinite just means for an unspecified amount of time. Sony said it's delayed "until further notice". That's as indefinite as you can get.

carcarias1479d ago (Edited 1479d ago )

Mate, that's only because they're not certain when the virus situation will calm down. You can disagree, but I don't see the virus lasting into the next year in a way that prevents the games release.

Therefore, whilst the exact date is unknown, it's safe to say it'll release at some point this year and claims that it won't release this year are bollocks, imho.

I get what you're saying with the basic interpretation of the term but, realistically, the game's gonna release this year so it's not 'indefinite' - it's sometime between now and the usual November window ;) If it doesn't release this year I'll eat my hat with a garnish, heh.

Another point that irritates me is that this article even goes so far in the scaremongering as to use the word cancelled. 'The crazy cancellation of The Last of Us 2'. Ridiculous.

porkChop1479d ago

I'm not saying it isn't releasing this year. It very likely will. But we don't know that for sure, and Sony probably isn't 100% sure either. If they *were* sure they wouldn't have refunded PS Store pre-orders, and they wouldn't have taken the store page down.

If this covid situation clears up soon the game will release in the fall or holiday seasons. But if this pandemic continues through and past the summer? All bets are off at that point.

carcarias1478d ago (Edited 1478d ago )

I agree and what you've just said is how the websites should report it - but too many decide to be sensationalist, imho. I bet they're the same kind of people who panic bought food, hehe. Mind you, many will have just done it for the clicks.

My money is on a late July release at the earliest up to mid-November.

Some people are acting like they won't even be able to finish the game this year, like lockenongamer1 above. That's simply not true, especially given the last comments Druckmann gave:

"Internally we know we have a great game and it’s just... we have to wait a little bit longer to get it out there to fans."

Anyway, stay safe and I hope this isolation isn't driving you mad, assuming it's in effect where you are!

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 1478d ago
Tross1479d ago (Edited 1479d ago )

I'm looking forward to it, but there have been more than enough games to keep me busy, so I can be patient. I'm sure it will be worth the wait when it finally does release, but for now I'll get by.

neomahi1479d ago (Edited 1479d ago )

Life moving on. In light of Naughty Dogs ego blowin sky high and thinking they can do whatever they want and getting caught up in the political B.S., I mean seriously, everyone always told me Southern California was so conservative it isn't funny, and it was Central and Northern California, mostly, that were the liberal ones, but Naughty Dog are as liberal as they come when it's the competition thatre supposed to be the extremely liberal ones, but it's the competition thatve now caught my attention and have stayed out of all that political b.s. I speak, of course, the new Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch Studios.

What just happened here was Naughty Dog just got out of the way to clear room for the new kid in town, the new boss of the block, of InFamous fame, Seattle based Sucker Punch Studios that once said they'd like to be Naughty Dog, but with Nate Fox at the helm set to challenge both Evan Wells (whose husband is missing him terribly as he works on The Last of Us Part II) and Neil Druckman (who is probably getting ready to leave his wife and kids for his new husband) Ghost of Tsushima takes care of everyone and everything. Sucker Punch Studios are busting their but to make things happen, regardless. Sony haven't shut them down or delayed anything, and Naughty Dog themselves have said they're just working through bugs. Hm... Sucker Punch are going strong and are set to deliver. Honestly, we don't need Naughty Dog or The Last of Us Part II, Sucker Punch are on schedule and making good on their promise, without the need of gay samurai, despite this ordeal, to deliver Ghost of Tsushima on time, as promised, and to the level of quality PlayStation delivers. This is too easy, next question, please.

carcarias1478d ago

Actually, I am worried about too much political bs being in a post-apocalypse game with Druckman at the helm :s

Especially now that the voice actor has said the story is divisive and thinks people have to play it with an open mind or else they might hate it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Ratings Revealed

It's an absolute given that every year there's a new Call of Duty title, like literally I can't ever see Activision having a year off and giving the franchise a break. However, after PlayStation 4 temporarily placed a PEGI rating on their network for a Modern Warfare 2 Campaign before very swiftly removing it again, it seems all but confirmed that there are indeed plans to bring a remastered Modern Warfare 2 to this generation of consoles.

MW3 & BO2 remaster next please!

bmf73641878d ago

MW3 is the omen for the series demise, and BO2 was the game that turned the genre backwards with the sci-fi setting. Something that's politically safe for the series and uninspiring.

corpsemaker1878d ago

Exactly. Give us a COD:WAW Remaster or Black Ops

Jamaicangmr1878d ago

Why?
We need to encourage them to improve and make new good games and stop settling for this remaster culture. Some games deserve a remaster Crash, Spyro, RE2 as those games were great games from PS1 come on we don't need MW2 Remaster as a ploy to get us to buy the next CoW because it's not strong enough to stand on its own.

SheenuTheLegend1879d ago

oh. enough with the remasters, do something new.
i know it gives a chance for fans to play their likelihood games at best experience but also it is giving companies a free walk over without doing anything.

JaXion51879d ago

You've gotten a new COD title every year for over a decade straight now.

DrumBeat1878d ago

And almost all of them were forgettable and unremarkable. CoD4 Modern Warfare beats anything that came after it, still. Simple and fun, with no nonsense. The gameplay was of course fun and addictive, the menus were concise, neat, and devoid of clutter.

Try saying that about a CoD game now.

SheenuTheLegend1876d ago (Edited 1876d ago )

sadly activision is just call of duty. i m talking about taking a task of doing something totally new that is not limited to just fps.
i know EA is worse but they still have some variety unlike Acti with last years title "A Way Out" and "Unravel" and this year "Apex Legends" and Titanfall like titles.

Shalawsorchi1878d ago

Well they did something new, like robot and wallwalking. did we like it? hell no we didnt.

Father__Merrin1879d ago

It will have the multiplayer also

FanboysKiller1879d ago

MW2 remastered won't happen, lmao!

SlyBoogie19931879d ago

Of course it will, it's easier than making an entirely new and original Call of Duty title, and Activision know it will bring in a ton of money, it's a no brainer for them.

annoyedgamer1878d ago

Alot of things bring in cash but dent future earning potential. Thats why looter shooters and battle royale games are nore popular with studios than single player titles.

Shalawsorchi1878d ago

Why not? they did with the first one.

I got high hopes for this years CoD after not getting any SP 2018 I can't wait for this years SP campaign!
We'll see next week though if they went with another "Future Warfare" setting with generic factions because if so I'm done with CoD, I want some real world inspired wars now like in the old CoD games.

RomanPSX1881d ago

They will announce it next week? Me too I want some real scenario, maybe in the middle east, Im kind of tired always fighting the russians or chinese. lets kill some talibans.

BadElf1881d ago (Edited 1881d ago )

I agree. But you can't...dont you know?
Not enough women in the Taliban. Plus, it's racist to do that today.
PLUS, the MP aspect wouldn't have enough Customization options(microtransactions) if you were just a "Terrorist".

Sad.

Rude-ro1881d ago

But the taliban are our ally now

1881d ago
annoyedgamer1881d ago (Edited 1881d ago )

Of course the refuse to remake MW2 MP. It would kill their other games.

NarooN1881d ago

I kinda feel like even if they did do it, it would just get abandoned after a few months anyway. Look at what happened to MWR. It was already losing players once the nostalgia wore off, and it only got worse once they inevitably added in their supply drops and new shit that the old game didn't have. They'd do the same with MW2 and even without that a lot of people would be turned off by how hilariously broken MW2 was anyway in terms of balance.

FPSRUSSIA1881d ago (Edited 1881d ago )

i don't agree with you on MWR there are a lot of people still playing and Enjoying it just got off an hour ago and its very easy to find games on PS4 even without the game being available yet for PlayStation plus. also who cares about Supply drops being in the remastered cant believe people are still crying about it even after it being 2 years after the Remastered came out

BoneMagnus1881d ago

Remastered compilations of the SP campaigns of the MW and BLOPs series would be great - and likely sell really well.

anonymousfan1881d ago

oh yesss BLOPS 1 was one of my favorite campaigns the story was a bit of a mess but the setting was pretty nice. We should have more shooters around the cold war era...

BadElf1881d ago

WaW is my favorite campaign I think...but BO1 was a beauty

LucasRuinedChildhood1881d ago

If they find some way to add loot boxes to this, I'm actually going to lose all hope for this industry.

LordoftheCritics1881d ago

Too late, 10$ for reload function.

airshiraz1881d ago

remastered with ray tracing would be awesome
