"The result is a boring game positioned in an inspiring world, and Death Stranding is missing the intrigue that typically draws me into your games." - Adam at Electric Bento

Plenty of people do
it's called time management
It's easy to turn on and play for 30 minutes or do 1 mission then stop

UltraNova1612d ago

That's what i do during work days...I cant fault the writer either but sometimes some titles disserve your time no matter how little you may have.

naruga1612d ago (Edited 1612d ago )

for the writer i ll say -->then dont play any game....all games are loss of time ....i would rather spend it on a adult masterpiece like Death Stranding rather than childish EA ,COD , Forthnite and FPS bs games

TheOptimist1612d ago

@Naruga

There are MANY MORE games apart from the crap EA, Ubi, Acti publish.

Are you sure he hasn't played games like Nier: Automata, Dark Souls/Bloodborne, Persona etc?

Just making sure, because I am pretty sure the writing in those games are more 'adult' than Death Stranding.

blacktiger1612d ago

naruga, if you think all games are loss of time, then you completely missed the point,

Shezgear1612d ago

The Optimist

Can you play Nier automata, bloodborne, darksouls etc for 30 mins only? I guess not. It's like that with story driven games. At least for me. Each session is at least 1 hour.

Profchaos1612d ago (Edited 1612d ago )

Yeah I work long days plus overtime I also try to study for further certifications where I can and have a baby to look after if I get between 10pm and 1030 pm to play on a wild day I'll push it out until 11pm it's my only downtime.
And yet I still managed to 100% rdr2 even if I still have a backlog of other games like control.

If a game appeals enough you will find a way but you become much stricter with what you play when I was younger I would play basically everything that released even if I didn't like it I pushed to the end I can't imagine being able to do that anymore.

The authors completely wrong to ask game Devs to tailor a game to suit their busy lifestyle there's hundreds of pick up play and put down games out there and not enough epic sagas.

Games are the new story telling medium to me I feel way more connected to Arthur in rdr2 after his story than the last ten movies I watched.

We need games like death stranding those slower games become a counter point to the Michael bay shooters like cod which on veteran mode I still progressed through three levels in 30 minutes

Juusterey1612d ago

@naruga
you're just as bad as the writer by looking down on other games
maybe worse

dumahim1612d ago

At least he was speaking for himself.

Tech51611d ago (Edited 1611d ago )

i'll try to make time for this when it drops on steam.
a portion of open world games do end up on the backlog section though.
MGSV is still on backlog on my friend's console, for real.
I already beat MGSV but it's also a fact that other gamers still have yet to.

monkey6021612d ago (Edited 1612d ago )

I find it really hard to do a 30 minute play and stop. That's why I'm only on chapter 3 now. I have to play it on my days off, which are nearly non existent this time of year. But I'm fully aware that's my problem not the developers and that's something I respect so much about this game. It was made exactly the way Kojima and his team wanted it. Unapologeticly so.

Also the time away really kills me and I can't wait to play it again ha

yoshatabi1611d ago

Same. I rarely have days off and when I do. I don't have a lot of free time on those days

RangerWalk2671611d ago

Even if managing my time on the weekends, this game didn't hold my intention enough to warrant giving up my precious little time I get to play on the weekends. I happen to be part of the group that this one didn't appeal to that much. Please don't stone me for my opinion.

monkey6021611d ago

If you have played it and don't like it then that's fair. I can see how this game doesn't appeal to all. It's a required taste in a sense. I don't think anybody has to justify themselves when it comes to something like that.

There are a lot of people giving the game shit though that never even tried it.

I love the world built in it so far. Typical Kojima wackiness with knots, ropes and surnames based on position and company. I get lost in it. It's great.

dumahim1612d ago

Yep. Suspend works great for the times things take longer than you had planned or expected.

Traecy1612d ago

Yep!! I work Mon through Friday get home late & I'll play 60 to 90 mins but play mostly on the weekends. I've put 30 hrs in the game so far.

SyntheticForm1612d ago

I'm going nuts with it (in a good way) and I'm managing just fine. Yeah, it's gonna take awhile, but it's really not a big deal.

babadivad1612d ago (Edited 1612d ago )

The reason I love games like Monster Hunter or Halo Wars 2(Guilty pleasure) is because it's drop in and out gameplay.

I can hunt for 30 min-1hr and drop out. No consequences. I'm not stuck into a story mission or anything like that. Same with Halo Wars

I have Witcher 3, Halo 5, Gears 4/5, GoW, Nier, Tales of Vesperia(though I've beaten the original), Horizon, Rise and Shadow of TR, AC Odyssey, AC Origins, RDR2, and so many others sitting on the sidelines because I don't have the time to invest in them.

Adulting kind of sucks. I have the disposable cash to invest into my hobby but not the time to enjoy then.

I think the last story games I started and completed was Tomb Raider and Hellblade. Pretty sad really. Both were pretty short games.

Slappy McGee1612d ago

Expect more and more articles about how games are too long since China is placing time limits on how much a person can play a day. All the companies tripping over themselves to get a piece of that new market will do whatever their told and we'll get stuck with the results since they're too lazy/cheap to make two versions of a game. Watch how many journalists start calling for shorter games in the coming year.

rainslacker1612d ago

Any site that reports on games and says they dont have time for them should just shutter their doors. I have plenty of time for games, and I'm enjoying DS

UnholyLight1612d ago

It's actually quite hard but I see your point. a 30 minute romp usually turns into an hour of trying to get to your destination but get distracted picking up extras and navigating BT territory etc. Its amazing but time consuming...I find myself having to REALLY PLAN my game session around these elements. you just CANT only put 30 mins into a game like this that involves 10 mins of loading and cutscene info here and there before you even truly get going most times.

Berenwulf1611d ago

I have two small kids, a wife and a job. I can still find 1-2 hours per week to play this amazing game.

This game is so much more interesting than any other game that came out in past few years. Yes I loved God of War and Sekiro but this game is just different and has awoken my interest. Thank you Kojima!

TheEroica1611d ago

So the game will be done in 10 years? I think you are actually perfectly articulating his point.

Speak for yourself and that's all.
Clueless gamer alert.

TK-661612d ago (Edited 1612d ago )

Actually most people don't. My source? Check the percentages for completion on trophy/achievement sites. Most of the time people don't finish games they buy, and when a game does achieve a higher percentage of completion it's barely more than half. It'll be interesting to see what Death Stranding's percentage is a year from now, but considering the amount of tedious work it requires you to do for just a nugget of the narrative, I'm not expecting many.

rainslacker1612d ago

True. But that's not likely due to time, but due to people losing interest partway through, or just a percentage that is still working on completing it.

warriorcase1612d ago

"Check the percentages for completion on trophy/achievement sites"
I've done this before along with steam achievements. I think it's more so attention spans or people just moving on and not so much a matter of time. I have more 'dedicated' (for lack of a better word) gamers who finish nearly everything they start but all of the more casual friends start games and just loose focus and move onto the next thing.

From people I've known their spare time isn't much different to my own but how they spend it and attention span is.

And yet, people sink.literally thousands of hours into games.like Fortnite or League of Legends. Go figure.

ReVibe1612d ago

I'll never understand the appeal of LoL. You do the same shit, on the same map, with the same tactics, over, and over, and over.

Double_O_Revan1612d ago

And yet games like Madden, Fifa and NBA sell tons of copies every year. Amazing what people are willing to play repetitively.

Emme1611d ago

Thousands of hours if You are a)without a job b)without a relationship c)without a life and real friends d)highschooler

TheProfessional1612d ago (Edited 1612d ago )

6 hours of build up is a little much but it is an interesting world. Too much backtracking and it took too long to get the motorcycle. The game could have definitely been shortened, lots of repetitive missions that don't advance the story. Days gone was the same. The story and world in stranding are interesting enough but there is still tons of kojima nonsense like diehard man, some awful dialogue and voice acting (ex.the junk dealer and his girlfriend) and tons of really unnecessary hologram briefings etc. Also the endless screens of pointless statistcs at the end of every delivery/mission is ridiculous

Knushwood Butt1612d ago

Just use the option to skip the statistics.

I rather like sitting through it.

Nyxus1612d ago

Hearing 'like! like! like!' is always fun. :P

PlayableGamez-1612d ago

There is hardly any backtracking unless you are doing side missions. Every main mission does a good job taking you to a new area you havent visit.

mkis0071611d ago

you do realize the junk dealers girlfriend is supposed to sound like that right?

garos821611d ago

Those "repetitive missions" that you talk about, are actually called side quests.
