Modern Warfare Early Copies Already Out Into the Wild, Patch Required to Get Past Main Title Screen

Modern Warfare early copies are already in the hands of lucky people! Patch required to get past the title screen.

purple1011643d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

Havent played Call of Duty for years and hate giving Activision any more money than those greedy people already have /. Deserve

but, due to the fact it has

1. A new game engine (after all these years)
2. crossplay with ps4, PC and Xbox
3. 32 v 32 battles

I've actualy pre-ordered this, with money off deal from a eBay 20‰ voucher.

Don't hate me..

The other thing is due to the sheer amount of consoles now reaching their maturity and some would say, saturation, I do believe it's going to be the biggest and best COD ever in terms of longevity, multiplayer, support, etc

Don't hate me. (again)

THC CELL1642d ago

It's not a mega update it feels like the same game tbh. I'll get to pass time for death stranding 17 days

SkatterBrain1642d ago

Its Gonna Be Funny in 10 years if your hard drive gave out and feel like playing this and cant get the update to get past the title screen cause the networks down, same reason i never bought tony hawk 5 ,heard it was super limited without an update

xTonyMontana1641d ago (Edited 1641d ago )

^^^ This right here, of course Activision won't care about their 10 year old game but at some point in the future, this game will literally be unplayable. Well they can keep doing this BS but when the digital copy costs £59.99 and I can buy a retail copy for under £45,it's not a hard choice for me if I was actually going to buy the game. Plus I'd also have the option to get even more of that money back by being able to trade it in when I want.

CrimsonPheonix1642d ago

lol no different then shipping a box with just a download code in it.

i don't play this junk anyway.

MajorLazer1642d ago

This is the first Cod I've ever preordered too

CrimsonWing691642d ago

look man, you don't need to apologize for being interested in something.

Naughty Dog could pull a Bill Cosby and I'd still buy The Last of Us 2.

DaDrunkenJester1641d ago

So if they drugged and raped you, youd still buy their product?

That's dedication

xTonyMontana1641d ago

^ I'd have preordered at least, I'll happily preorder from developers who have a proven track record of delivering top notch games without resorting to DLC practices that hinder my enjoyment. Same for me with the likes of CDPR and Cyberpunk, I know they'll deliver a great game and respect my original custom.

DaDrunkenJester1641d ago

I'm with you my guy. I really enjoyed the gunplay from the beta, and with the amount of modes, content, battle sizes, darker toned campaign etc. Its seeming like it may be one of the best CoDs since MW2/BLOPS1

ramiuk11641d ago

im same and beta was awesome ,but alpha sealed it for me,i preordered ages ago.

i hate all the super soldier wall running, jetpack crap, hated black ops 4 yet this is back to the cod i fell in love with and imo what made the franchise

Muzikguy1641d ago

I was thinking about giving it a chance but negativity like this patch change my mind. Plus the commercials about being a generational leap are quite ironic. The engine has lagged behind for almost 2 generations and has been long overdue. They shouldn't be proud of it now. It's late. Still behind too if you ask me because when next gen starts, which is very soon, they'll keep going with the engine they've got now (most likely) instead of improving

xTonyMontana1641d ago

To be perfectly honest, I usually hate COD but they they actually delivered when they claimed it feels fresh and new this time around. Experience is the only reason I didn't preorder. I remember last year SkillUp retracting his positive review because of Activision's dirty tactic of holding out from implementing their greedy practices until after launch and all the positive reviews came out and didn't want to risk buyer's remorse.

The disc version of the game is effectively useless. However, I am not surprised, this is the same company that sold Spyro Reignited Trilogy discs with only one of the three games in disc despite their being room for all the games.

purple1011642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

Except.. In a few months.. I can get half the value back from trade in or ebay sale. ( works especially well if you get a good price to begin with)

. If you buy digital... You will get nothing back..

Stating the obvious. But I don't agree with worthless discs.

They are "money disks" to me

When I sold my PS3 and 15 games on eBay, I got £300... Which was the same price as as PS4 with two games (at the time) so I lost money yes, but, I basically got a PS4 for free.. due to all the GAME DISKS. the console only made up about £120 of the deal. (trade / ebay price at the time)

So, without those games on discs I would have lost loads of cash.

I see the point about putting incomplete versions on the best that all need the day one patch, but having disks - is Most definitely still the best way to go, if you can get a good deal.

excaliburps1642d ago

This is my main issue with going digital; this and the fact that I don't want to upgrade my HDD every few years, or I keep deleting games.

PowerOfTheCloud1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

Same, i also sold my ps3 library for relatively cheap but that alone would have been enough to buy the ps4 -and i didn't even factor in for how much i sold the ps3 console itself.

That 's why i only buy really cheap games digital ( let's say under 15 bucks) and the majority will be physical on all of my consoles as long as physical versions exist.

King_Noctis1642d ago

So what happen if the game taken offline and you can’t download the patch to play the game on another console? The disc would be useless also in this case.

rainslacker1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

About a year before the last gen ended, I sold off a good chunk of my collection. Some retro games, but a lot of ps3 games I didnt want or need. I ended up with about 10k in cash. If looked at as an investment, yes, I lost money, but assuming I had brought all.those games digitally, I'd say that the 10k return is better than zero return.

I would never buy that many games digitally, as I brought many as a collector. But, it's still nice to be able to offload games I dont want anymore. Maybe digital will do that one day, but I'd prefer to not have to do it through a 3rd party like MS was proposing I think if MS had kept digital trade/sell in tact, instead of removing it along with their physical DRM BS, they would have done something positive for the consumer and industry.

The only digital games I'll buy now are either really cheap, or only available figital... but still usually once they're on sale. Plenty of backlog to not jump in day one at full price. About 95% of my digital collection is from free offerings through various services over the years...mainly ps+

lnfiniteLoop1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

do you have Driveclub on disk?... just like the digital version... its now worthless as the online servers have been turned off by Sony...

ramiuk11641d ago

i account share.
me and my mate paid £51 for £60 worth of psn credit and split that between us,its gonna be a long time before it drops below £26

So 20 years from now, if you pick this up and wanted to play the campaign-and it’s no longer supported on consoles for updates-we cannot?

Lame.

Well, it’ll probably be remade a few more times anyway.

UltraNova1642d ago

By that time you'd either Stream games or forget gaming all together.

NapalmSanctuary1642d ago

Thats a bit of an assumption.

UltraNova1642d ago

Napalm,

Trust me, I wish I'll be proven wrong.

CDbiggen1642d ago

Wait, what? I won't even be able to play the campaign if I just put in the disc?
I haven't been following this, please explain.

Notellin1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

All I've seen is it has a 40gb day 1 patch. A couple of websites are listing the total file size between 130-175gb. And now it appears unplayable for anyone who can't download the patch.

But this is all being reported from people with leaked copies so it's not easy to verify the authenticity of the claims obviously. However, it's Call of Duty and Activision so we can expect the absolute worst based on reputation.

franwex1642d ago

Just like the Spyro remake-which is also from Activision.
No. You need an update 1st, then you can play campaign.

CDbiggen1642d ago

Thanks lads, fuck that for a laugh. They just had to go and ruin it.

kitano19471642d ago

LOOTBOXES. LOCKED CONTENT. LOOTBOXED. LOCKED CONTENT. and still people preorder

Juusterey1642d ago

"Stop complaining about valid things!!!!!"

CDbiggen1641d ago

Yourrre aaaaaa reeettaaarrdddd suckerrrr for acceptingggg Activision'sssss cockkk uppppp yourrr assssss.

DigitalDaniel1642d ago

There's Battle Pass. No loot boxes, no season pass. Even Activision went out with a statement saying there will never be loot boxes for this title. If they go back on their promise they can expect to be sued. Yes, companies like Treyarch has said similar stuff before, but they really didn't call the shots. Activision does. So this is why it's different this time around.

King_Noctis1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

They didn’t say there straight-out will never be lootbox in the game. What they did say was:

"What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through GAMEPLAY."

https://www.pcgamer.com/cal...

Notice the word “right now”? They didn’t say anything about “never”. Obviously they choose their PR words carefully so they can easily go back and do a 180 on them.

DigitalDaniel1642d ago

@King_Noctis

You're not posting the most updated message. What you're posting is from Infinity Ward. Activision themselves posted on their blog how the MTX model will be.

https://blog.activision.com...

Here is the part from the blog that tells us exactly how it will be:

"Today, let’s address the basics for the in-game economy coming in Modern Warfare.

· We are introducing a new Battle Pass system, not a loot box system.

· All functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game.

· The new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content that they are earning or buying. Battle Passes will launch timed to new, post-launch live seasons, so you can unlock cool new Modern Warfare-themed content that matches each season.

· With the new Battle Pass system, players will be able to earn COD Points by playing the game.

· There will be both a Free Stream and a Premium Stream of content in the Battle Pass System in Modern Warfare. New base weapons will be earned through gameplay, simply by playing Modern Warfare. Functional attachments for base weapons can be unlocked through gameplay as well just like in the game’s Beta.

· The Battle Pass and the In-Game Store will feature a variety of cosmetic content that does not impact game balance."

End of quote.

There will not be loot boxes in this game. No company would risk the enormous backlash they'd get by inserting loot boxes on top of a Battle Pass system. They could also get sued by going back on their word here as this is a statement from the publisher, not the developers. What devs promise or not got less weight to it because at the end of the day, they're not in charge. Activision is in charge.

Make no mistake, Activision wants to make money. And they will as the Battle Pass system is a proven model that works because of its transparency towards the customers. The customers still want to spend money, they just don't want to spend money on gambling boxes. There's also legal implications with loot boxes as the list of countries banning them is growing. I don't think Activision is doing this out of the goodness in their heart, it's because their old business model is dying and tainted. And it won't be sustainable when it becomes illegal and brings nothing but bad PR

NapalmSanctuary1642d ago

@DigitalDaniel

There is nothing in that statement that would make them legally liable should they decide to introduce loot boxes down the line. And if Activision has proven anything, its that bad PR is strictly a secondary concern.

rainslacker1642d ago

If they already have a different monetization plan in place besides loot boxes, chances are that theyll remain that way.

CDbiggen1641d ago

Imagine actually believing this. BTW I love downloading the campaign on my retail copy of a game, it's the best.

stefd751642d ago

You know you can play games without opening one loot box...or is it just a thing the young gamers seem to complain about. I dont think I have ever opened one loot box in a game unless it done it for me, and that includes any Call of Duty, Halo 5: Guardians, Battlefield, Battlefront, Overwatch and any other game they are in.

King_Noctis1642d ago

You don’t have to open it yes, but that doesn’t mean those lootbox aren’t affecting gameplay.

Also, if it is so “optional”, then why include it in the first place? Why not let gamers buy the contents that they want directly instead of locking them in a random box like a casino?

CDbiggen1641d ago (Edited 1641d ago )

They can change the whole way a game's progression system is designed - GR:Breakpoint is now the top example.

ExplodingJuice1642d ago

You are wrong on every single topic you just stated. Think before you type.

CDbiggen1641d ago

So he's wrong that people are pre-ordering? I wish.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.

I really hope we get other activision games on GP soon. My dream would be Scarface but I know the license probably expired

P_Bomb277d ago

Love me some Scarface! I even bought the comics. Yeah, licensing would probably be an impasse.

4Sh0w277d ago

hmmm, coincidence? Either way this is a good sign for gamers after the ABK deal.

porkChop277d ago

I played through Scarface again last year and it still holds up. Such a fun game. I would love for Xbox to get the rights back to remaster Scarface and make a sequel. It sold well and they had plans for Scarface 2, 3, and 4. With how long it takes Rockstar to make games the market is wide open.

TheColbertinator277d ago

That game was so much fun. Expected a cheap GTA clone but it was a good drug empire building game.

shinoff2183277d ago

They didn't just have plans but there's actual gameplay out there for scarface 2

neutralgamer1992277d ago

Seriously man we need games like

True crime
Sleeping dogs
Watch dogs( more like original not legion)
And proper saints row

GTA can’t be the only option we need other games

P_Bomb277d ago

@neutral
Gun was Activision as well. Nice open world Wild West there imo.

neutralgamer1992275d ago

Gun is such a underrated game

None of those games had dedicated servers on console in the first place? Were always player hosted. Did something change?

Rutaprkl277d ago

Older cods like Mw, Mw2 and WaW were way better than Call of Dutys nowadays

GoodGuy09277d ago

Make activision remaster mw2 (2009) multiplayer please xbox.
