Gearbox Software is changing its approach to humor with the launch of Borderlands 3, hoping to preserve all of the fun without being insensitive.

Oh for the love of God. I think if people were that insensitive they'd have complained after the first Borderlands game released.

SmielmaN1704d ago (Edited 1704d ago )

If a video game hurts your feelings then don’t play it. A developer shouldn’t change their style just because some ppl have become chronic complainers.

If I didn’t like, say, superhero movies, I wouldn’t think so highly of myself that I would seek to shame the producers into changing the next movie they make. I simply wouldn’t go watch it. That’s my right as a consumer. Their right as a creator is to create.

Based on their previous successes do they really believe changing their content to appear less insensitive is going to help or hinder their core consumer base?

I can’t tell you that answer for sure but I would say to have a gander at Gillette’s $8 billion dollar loss attributed to their “Toxic Masculinity” ad campaign.

Sometimes it’s a good idea not to spit in your target consumer based collective faces, know what I mean?

Worlds literally gone mad with this over PC BS

They need to go the rout of Southpark... an equal opportunity offender. Cover everyone, then no one can complain!

rainslacker1704d ago (Edited 1704d ago )

Yeah, nothing like the millions of people who love the game the way it is now not having to worry about being offended. Game wasn't really that over the top to begin with, and the satire was such that it was usually shown in a way that those who were "insensitive" were idiots or evil. I don't really see the problem.

Maybe South Park can be next. Change it's satire to accommodate the same people they're trying to point out as bigots or idiots.

I love the humor of borderlands. Been playing BL2 the past week or so because I loved the story of Tales from the Borderlands, and I think it strikes a great balance of humor and society.

Not buying this till much much later on Ps5 with all the dlc

CaptainObvious8781703d ago

This isn't surprising. There's been recent signs of wokeness around that game as of late. It's a hard pass for me.

"Brock reaffirmed that Borderlands 3 has still been written to with all the raucous humor of Borderlands 2, but he fully believes that the team can do that without being cruel and insensitive."

Seems good to me. Only sensitive people I am seeing are in the comments here. I'm certain most people here will enjoy the jokes just as much as the second game and won't even recognize what was changed.

I'm certain people who chuckled and enjoyed the claptrap tutorial part they've shown recognized how much the writing had changed. /s

So basically they're censoring it. Glad I won't be getting this until next year.

Yep, devs thought saying "sensitive" would fool the gamer.
Its a work around for the word "censorship" but they didn't want the fall out.

The more I see about this game the more I'm relieved that Epic removed any decision I had in buying the game without really knowing what it will be.

Now I will warts and all.

No, just polishing off all of the sharp edges. Think of Jim Gaffigan - he still tries to be funny, just as inoffensively as possible. Family-friendly comedy, if you will.

Controlling what you write based on your own desires isn't censorship...

Though far from the best version, this does a mostly good job of bringing this snarky sci fi shooter to the Switch.

Really like the series but each one seems more of the same to me. Needs a mix up. Tiny Tina was ok at 1st but overall meh.

gold_drake236d ago

you can only make a 1st person looter shooter so much different.

fans dont play it for the ganeplay but more for the story i would assume.

i know i did. and cause i liked the characters

InUrFoxHole236d ago

Idk but they're solid overall

FalcorMononoke236d ago

The first 3 games were great on the Switch so I'm sure this one will be good.

Profchaos236d ago

Hate to say it but this was a bad game I don't see the merit in porting it unlike the first 2
